Has been for quite a while. My father bought a brand new one fully optioned in 1975 at the ripe old age of 23. He was a produce manager at a local grocery store and my mother was an LPN at the hospital. They had a nice home in a good neighborhood, and two other daily cars. They accumulate several boxes of 8mm film of them driving it all over the country and up through Canada. They put almost 80k miles on that car before I was born in '81. Good luck pulling that off now. You'd have to be born into generational wealth.

https://www.reddit.com/r/carscirclejerk/s/okuYI40ZAU I'll just leave this here. And to add to your education no one bitches about people driving Corvettes because a person in a Corvette isn't going to accidentally run over a group of children because they didn't see them. I'll leave out the fact that realistically a Vette can get 27/30mpg on the freeway while the best 150/0 series unmodified trucks are doing 19/22. But we're not taking about those. We're talking about lifted big tire 3/4 and 1 ton trucks that are modified in a way to make them exactly WORSE at what they were designed to do for the sake of an insecure males visual appearance. Arguable for the purpose of impressing mainly... other males.

That_Trapper_guy@reddit

I use it in my personal vehicle because it's cheap and I have a company vehicle I drive every day, and the wife works from home. So the once a month or so I put fuel in it the $1.70 feels a lot better than the 2/3 gas mileage since it's all around our little town anyways.

The gasser are a LOT cheaper lol you know what kind of power I could get out of a GM 6.0 or a Ford 7.3 for what it costs to replace an injector pump and injectors on any modern diesel? $200 oil changes, fuel treatment, fuel filters, DEF and emissions problems that gas motors don't have either. That's not counting a snapped crank, a turbo blowing chunks and getting sent through the engine or any of the other problems that plague modern diesels. Suspension parts are all coming so they're the same price which isn't honestly horrible, but a gas HD truck is SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper to own, operate and maintain over the life of a vehicle.

That_Trapper_guy@reddit

The amount of power an engine has to make to be producing 700 lb/ft at 6750 rpm is insane lol it's going to feel WAY faster than something making 600 at 2500. If something is making that much torque at such a high rpm it's going to be making significantly more at lower RPM. Mathematically speaking your peak torque can't be higher than 5252 rpm without some sort of interference (Think vvt, especially on the S2000 where it didn't come into play until 6000 rpm) the second example is 700*6750/5252=899.6HP

Nissan Frontier. Hear me out. The VK56 is a known performer, with That Ricer John making over 2000 RWHP on a stock block and crank. It was also a factory option in the Pathfinder for several years. Which means it bolts right into a Frontier with no problems. C3 trans adaptor to throw 4L80 behind it and 9" out back. Boom

Jeeps have always been bad. People act like this is something new. What's new is you used to be able to fix them on the side of the road with a few wrenches, screwdrivers and that Fu(KiNg torx bullshit. But that was back when you had actual Jeep people, when you had to want to drive a Jeep. Now they're plush heated seat lifestyle vehicles with touchscreens and so much electronic crap, done by a company famous for terrible electronics that you can't fix them on the side of the road even if you were hauling a dealership behind you.

Man, my sister's out friends and I would bike from my parents house to the channel where the lake started, just over 4 miles away, hike up the channel about 2/3 of a mile them swim across the channel and play on the rope swing all day, then be back by dark. We did a whole ass triathlon at least once a week over the summer lol holy cow those were crazy times!

Why are fuel tanks shrinking as ICE vehicles become more fuel efficient?

Posted by Specialist_Heron_986@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 325 comments

That_Trapper_guy@reddit

Most vehicles average about 300-320 miles per tank (this has been a very scientific study on my part by owning way too many shitboxes without working fuel gauges, your welcome) so add the efficiency grows, the bed for a larger tank to achieve that 300 mile range is no longer needed.

Also, we didn't really understand HOW to increase power. We knew bigger engines and a few different tricks did the job, but we didn't fully understand flame propagation, and swirl and tumble and all the jazz we do now. HEMI engines are my favorite example of a very successful, bad engine design. In all reality a HEMI engine is a HORRID design. Running 50° of advance timing is, just, terrifying. It's also why they put two plugs in them now, to fix the flame travel issues. Not to mention valve overlap etc etc I could go on for an hour. Anyways, HP now is oddly enough coming as a side effect of efficiency. We're burning more and more of the fuel that comes into the cylinder percentage wise than ever before, reducing hydrocarbon output and tailpipe emissions, and using the extra heat to that advantage. More power. My favorite example of this is the 2005 LS7 engine in the Z06 Corvette. 505 horsepower and that motor had a camshaft in it that's laughably small. Honestly a simple cam swap in that motor can get you over a 100 horsepower gain.

Confirmed: Next-Gen Nissan GT-R Will Be a Hybrid, Arriving in 3-5 Years.
