What is the worst type of group in the car community?

For me, it's those ghetto/city boys, the tiktok kids can be annoying but at least you can ignore them, the ghetto part of the community is ruining its whole rep entirely
cdn_hotrod@reddit
Takeover/sideshow cunts. They will literally ruin car culture with their fatherless, attention seeking bullshit.
Whitrzac@reddit
Truck bros. Diesel truck bros are a terrorist organization at this point.
Born-Raccoon1484@reddit (OP)
I'd say the ones who lift their trucks and never touch non-concreted surface are worse
Organic-End-9767@reddit
The squared ones for me. Because they've proven they're never going off-road with 1 inch of tire clearance in the rear.
DilapidatedPlum@reddit
With tires that stick out past their mirrors.
Csharp27@reddit
The tires have to be paper this on 48 inch rims too be REAL country.
Bunch_of_Shit@reddit
kinda crazy they actually make thin, low profile, off-road treaded tires for deep dish rims that will probably get damaged during moderate off roading.
IdiotSerena@reddit
my lowered BRZ on 245/40's would probably do better off roading
Weird-Helicopter6183@reddit
I was behind one of these earlier! Deep dish 20” rims, stuck way out of the fender wells, crazy lift kit but such small tires made it barely taller than my SUV but his giant polished woodstove exhaust pipe was rolling coal for the world to see. It looked expensive, and just sad. Why put all that money into suspension for a tire and wheel combo like that? Blacked out window tint so no one could see in and I’m not sure they could see out
Bunch_of_Shit@reddit
They’re so ugly it’s actually disgusting
Kerrchung@reddit
And the dangly truck nuts hanging off the tow hitch reciever in case you weren't sure what they were compensating for?
Csharp27@reddit
Half of them I see in Dallas I wouldn’t trust in a gravel road.
TheMightyKunkel@reddit
I wouldn't trust them in the rain
KiraDog0828@reddit
…or if they hit a medium sized pothole.
BANKSLAVE01@reddit
LOL, I love pulling up to them in my [dirty] blazer and give them that "LOL-'nice truck'..." look.
stupiduselesstwat@reddit
It's like they want their brodozers to be donks, but just aren't cool enough to find a 1978 Pontiac Parisienne to donk out.
D3ATHTRaps@reddit
Those shits literally throw stones everywhere. At that point its a danger to pedestrians. Everytime i see one with tires sticking 2 inches out i immediately give way more space or pass them quickly. There's a reason why there are laws about your tire sticking out of your fender
DilapidatedPlum@reddit
Yup and everytime you see someone with them they dont know how to stay in their own lane but that's also almost everyone these days.
IrelandAutism13@reddit
And the hitch on the back wven when they aren't towing
DilapidatedPlum@reddit
That's what the ball things are for? I thought that was there just in case they back into someone at the local Walmart.
IrelandAutism13@reddit
Nope, they're to hitch up a trailer, you aren't supposed to have them on unless you're towing but people leave them on at all times
RedPajama45@reddit
I see one every day and give him a 👎 every time
Born-Raccoon1484@reddit (OP)
Bro!! You talking about those tires that just face diagonally
Those look horrendous

Sure-Ad-1357@reddit
What sucks about the truck community is that there are two extremes: the douche bags who take up space and can’t drive their squatmobiles - and the mechanic/farmer/handyman/laborers who will fix your car on the side of the road and give you a ride/pull you out/tow you away.
04limited@reddit
Never understood lifted trucks. They’re too big for trails and the extra weight isn’t gonna help in deep mud
Which_Initiative_882@reddit
Out in the desert they help with rock crawling and seeing problem areas before they become a problem. BUT those rigs have a TON of sidewall to be able to conform to the terrain and not get damage from sharp rocks. These 'builds' with the rubber band tires are all show and its stupid.
largos7289@reddit
They do have a purpose. mostly for going through deeper water, plus if it's not lifted to all hell it does make the truck look better. I had a 94 bronco with a 4" body lift. Not crazy big but made it look cool. Also going through water was a breeze. We had a few floods and it just was made for it.
DueMorning32@reddit
Yup, water crossing, fording, mudding. Massive lifts with 2ton axle upgrades on 54inch swamp tires. Only time it's actually needed. And even then it's not always enough.
Several_Cat_3713@reddit
It's a small size dilemma.
Dieselfumes_tech@reddit
I guess that depends on what part of the country you live in. In the west a large lifted offroad rig works just fine.
My superduty on 40’s has been on trails all over the western United States. Even black diamonds
Unique_Watch4072@reddit
They have their purpose. My HZJ73 is lifted about 5" and has 42" tires, mainly for driving in snow.
DeltaTule@reddit
That car is not a lifted truck. Wrong conversation to insert that little car into
Dzov@reddit
Especially when they have non-compliant low profile tires.
BRING_ME_THE_ENTROPY@reddit
My car has rock chips from commuting and scratches from sliding off track at Streets of Willow and hitting a bush. These lifted trucks don’t even have rock chips because the body sits up so high.
notyourmama827@reddit
That describes a lot of people in my area . 100k grocery hauler with 6.50 usd gallons of gas.
That-redhead-artist@reddit
Makes me think of that woman in her lifted truck who drove right up on a supercar in a parking lot most assuredly because she did t see it, and add on that she was also driving prettt fast in a parking lot to begin with.
I would be surprised if she ever off-roaded in that thing. I think people who actually do off-roading would have a better awareness of their vehicle to avoid getting stuck or hitting things.
eagledog@reddit
Mall crawlers
pm-me-racecars@reddit
There's a Jeep I saw the other day with a bunch of stickers for all the trails he's driven. In the middle of them was a local parking lot. I think that's hilarious.
KiraDog0828@reddit
Some of the parking lots in my Midwest city are more cratered than the moon.
pollywantacrackwhore@reddit
A mall in my area is being sued by Walmart for the condition of the parking lot people have up go through to get to them. Getting to Sam’s Club without being swallowed up by a sinkhole requires a good deal of defensive maneuvering.
Actual_Succotash_377@reddit
You must be talking about Dayton Mall
eagledog@reddit
Any mall in Michigan
OneCruelBagel@reddit
I've seen a similar thing with an M25 sticker on the back of a car - that's the motorway that goes around London, but it's a loop so it sort of looks like a racetrack... I also thought it was very funny!
Actual_Succotash_377@reddit
You must be talking about Dayton Mall
No_Staff594@reddit
I genuinely have a dude that drives around my city all day every single day in a gmc Denali lifted and tricked tf out for off road. It is absolutely spotless and he just cruises through every public parking lot he can find at like 3 mph blasting shit music. I see him like twice a week driving by Home Depot or discount tire always doing the same thing.
SkiyeBlueFox@reddit
Only thing worse than lifted is squatted... lifted truck at least the bed is still usable, good luck with a squatted
BIGbudz808@reddit
This is the correct answer. At least those big diesel trucks got some balls and can go fast - I've seen one beat a turbo S2000.
Squatted truck drivers need to be rounded up and prevented from having children. They look stupid, and have zero functionality. And since we are on that subject the"stance guys" are the next worst
SkiyeBlueFox@reddit
In the end my thing is that trucks are utility vehicles. Lifted can be justified by offroading, there is no justification other than small brain for squatting
RvstiNiall@reddit
You've apparently never experienced Diesel Truck drivers rolling coal
Inflatable90sChair@reddit
i havent seen many disels doing this around me once diesel hit $5 a gallon and stayed there for years....
RvstiNiall@reddit
They still do it round where I live. Rednecks love to do dumb shit. Such as detuning their Diesel to burn excessive fuel so that it creates black smoke (which, also, causes the truck to make LESS POWER, USE MORE FUEL, AND GO SLOWER).
AutoGeneratedNamePlz@reddit
The locals near me will do shit like this, have crazy expensive (and shitty) mods on their parking lot princesses, then bitch about how expensive it is to live.
I have a manual hatchback. I learned to drive stick in it so I put a decal on it years ago saying I could potentially stall. I have had so many idiots put themselves at risk of an accident because they will swerve in and out of traffic or go into the opposite lane just to get past me to roll coal onto my car. They also do it to Prius drivers a lot I’ve noticed.
RvstiNiall@reddit
Former Prius owner. Can confirm. They would also go out of their way to pass me even when it made no sense. Like bro, I go 90 on the highway, why are you attempting to pass me just to get in front me of and slow down once you realize how fast you are going?
Odin_3406@reddit
I think he does mean highway princes truck "bros"
konfliicted@reddit
Add in a Carolina squat for good measure
seaofboobs9434@reddit
Naw the ones the coal roll and dont let you pass are by far the worst they also lift there trucks so its kinda a sub category I guess
One-Wish1955@reddit
We call them “Pavement Princesses!” 👸🏻
BN3163@reddit
Not all of them, 7.3l powerstroke and pre emissions diesel people who keep them stock aren't bad.
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
The half lifted Palatka lean trucks are an even worse version of them
Which_Initiative_882@reddit
Oh, the Carolina Squat people? Yeah fuck them guys.
Smokey_tha_bear9000@reddit
Yeah same thing. In north Florida we called them Palatka lean
Which_Initiative_882@reddit
Ahh, new regional term learned, thank you! We dont see these at ALL in the western region so most learned about it when the "carolina squat" made national news. The only trucks you see out here where the rear is lower is because they have serious weight in the bed or pulling a heavy trailer.
U_DontNoMe@reddit
As an owner of 4 diesel trucks, I firmly agree. I hate when people put my work trucks in the category of a brodozer.
Delta0411@reddit
As mentioned above with the condition so many mall parking lots are in. I doubt those brodozers could even survive a mall.
kevintheredneck@reddit
I’ve got a buddy that drives around a dodge ram 3500 four wheel drive truck. He has 44 inch tires all the way around it. The truck has never been off road, but he has to replace the wheel bearings and ball joints once a year.
Willing_Park_5405@reddit
Imagine the gas bill!
Suravoid@reddit
so like ones where the tyres touch the wheel well and are bottomed out? ya, imo too much as well.
RestinRIP1990@reddit
work trucks are not something I'd ever mock, people should know the difference. My father in law is an excavator and drives a powerstroke f250 super duty, and he uses it on the farm as well, absolute work horse of truck, looks good too stick.my brother in law has a dodge ram 2500 and is a contractor, and uses it to plow, also a nice looking trick stock. I see people with these super duty work trucks that don't even know how to park in the lines , let alone use them for anything they could be used for, and then ignorant people will just assume everyone with a truck is a mall crawler.
I just drove a v10 f650 for moving, and that was pretty fun to drive, but could never imagine it being a daily driver for no reason work related reasons
BTCminingpartner@reddit
Haha. "Stanced" cars. Dangerous to drive on the road!
redeyedrenegade420@reddit

cans-of-swine@reddit

eNomineZerum@reddit
Nah, having been in the truck community and the Tesla community at the same time, the Tesla community is THE WORST. You get a bunch of for Ford owners together and talk crap about a known Ford problem and folks start talking about they can convince Ford to do a recall. You do similar in a Tesla group you got called a TSLA shorter, banned from half a dozen subs or groups, and never once a bit of support.
AutoGeneratedNamePlz@reddit
I like electric vehicles. I think more people should own them, especially if they have little interest in dealing with the maintenance with ICE vehicles. But Tesla fanboys give them such a bad name. I know someone who sounds like that Japanese solider who kept fighting 29 years after WW2 still defending the Cybertruck.
aguyfrom208@reddit
I can’t imagine picking the Cybertruck as a hill to die on. Yknow how even people who aren’t “car people” have sort of a general fondness for old air cooled VW Beetles? The Cybertruck has the opposite of that.
135is@reddit
It’s sad because I love diesels. They sound so good with a proper exhaust. It’s too bad the people ruin them :/
RobertNeyland@reddit
It really is sad. I remember as a kid these old-timers having awesome old diesel trucks, 1956 Dodge Power Wagons, 1979 Ford F-350s, early 70s C-10s with big blocks...I loved them all.
It seems that truck culture with the current under 35 people went the same way that popular country music has gone over the past 35 years, which is to say, to shit.
speedystein@reddit
Ford didn't make a diesel F series in 1979... would make a cool resto-mod project though
RobertNeyland@reddit
Sorry for the confusion, I didn't mean to say that those models I listed were diesels, just that they were also old trucks that I loved seeing at car shows.
speedystein@reddit
Ah, gotcha, all good man! I also miss the old trucks.
Odin_3406@reddit
I concur. The number of twinks riding around in daddy's money trucks to boost thier egos and/or think they appear "masc" (lifted so no one sees them with thier buddy's unit in thier mouth. Hahaha) is astonishing.
Ive determined the size of the trucks exhaust tip is advertising what the drivers "exhaust tip" stretches to. You could stick someone's head in some of those things. Hahahahaha
giraffe-zackeffron@reddit
The diesel guys are always douche bags for some reason. I have a light duty pickup and it seems every diesel guy I meet feels the need to mention their truck as being a “real” truck compared to mine. Another is the F series ford guys. I have a Toyota tundra. I love my tundra. I bought it because it’s what I wanted. But it seems like every dude I know who has an F series feels the need to tell me why their truck is superior. I’m just like, yeah I don’t care. You have what you like. I have what I like.
Hackpro69@reddit

AutoGeneratedNamePlz@reddit
Love driving my manual hatchback and have some lifted POS truck maneuver past me just to roll coal. Hope that helped you feel more masculine as you enter the Walmart parking lot.
GlassCannon81@reddit
I was going to say Mustang bros are the only ones likely to kill you. That’s because I wasn’t thinking of diesel bros as part of the community. One of those assholes literally shot a gun out his window at me once. It’s them.
bigloser42@reddit

LandCruiser76@reddit
Def not a fan of the take over squads. Go to a track. but tbh I don't think those folks are really car guys given how hard they thrash those engines/ how often body panels are missing/ falling off.
In the actual car enthusiast, it's gotta be the 'LamBros'. No one cares about your urus. Its not cool, interesting, or particularly good at driving, its just expensive. I will go stare at a shitbox Honda with some serious fab work/absurd turbo from a diesel Ford any day over an off-the-line hype/influence car. You're not interested in the car so much as the status you think it provides.
hondas_r_slow@reddit
A good friend of mine was going to get a Urus. Not just a Urus, but I white one. However, he came to his senses and realized if you’re going to own a Lamborghini, buy a Lamborghini and not a SUV. So he ended up buying a Range Rover SV for his dad car and a Maserati MC20
Horsetranqui1izer@reddit
Damn he bought the worst cars on the market when it comes to reliability lol
LandCruiser76@reddit
Dodged a bullet to get into some cars that will spend half their lives in a shop lmao. But hey atleast those two have more character.
MadDog443@reddit
The Land Rover is as expensive as a Lamborghini to fix and as reliable as a Jeep. Dude played himself.
longass-@reddit
Dude had the money for a Land Rover and an mc20, somehow I don’t think he’s concerned.
MadDog443@reddit
Land Rover has never made a reliable vehicle in their multiple lives, and its amazing they don't burst into flames from all the electrical issues they have. Trusting one of those to not leave you on the side of the road is like Shrodinger's Cat Theory except you're putting a heroin addict with enough to OD next to them in a box and seeing when you open the box if they're dead or alive, we all know they'll be dead.
MadDog443@reddit
While its not an actual Lamborghini, the platform is significantly better and more reliable than anything from Land Rover, should've bought the Audi or Porsche equivalent or went with a Lexus.
manualsquid@reddit
I completely agree. Even supercars, honestly. Like yeah, I'll gander at your Pagani for a bit, but I also am much much more interested in homie's homebrew Honda or a fan-fabbed Fiat or a crawler or whatever.
Lockdownhaden@reddit
they aren’t my favorite at a show by any means but i got mad respect for anyone who’s *driving* their super/hyper cars.
titanicdiamond@reddit
That's like trying to say the demo derby guys aren't car people because they purposely destroy their car...
Take overs are absolutely the worst thing to happen to the car scene. But that doesn't make me any less of a car person because my realistic dream goal is to own 10+ acres and a fleet of retired police tahoes so me and my friends can thrash them. They're going to get wrecked frequently and barely patched back together. My bmws never cared that once we were moving, the throttle was basically an on/off switch, even on road.

AsainGlockgirl99@reddit
Actual Lamborghini, cool. One of those soccer mom Lamborghinis, not cool. I can't believe people really spend money on those.
Flocky_off@reddit
And it's also just a more expensive Audi SUV
Substantial-Ad-8575@reddit
Hmm, we have a women who tracks her Urus with my wife in her Cayenne GTS. Drives well at the track. Outpacing many driving Mustang GT, M4/3/2, Civic R/GR.
We go to track 4-6 times a month. Wife likes her new Cayenne GTS. But also spends time in her 718 4.0 GTS, Artura, mine GT3 RS, or our prepped Spec Miata.
LandCruiser76@reddit
You guys are exceptionally rare. The 2 urus guys I've met couldn't tell you where the engine latch is on their car. Also told me what they paid for it unprompted. Rare to meet folks who actually track hard. Don't ya'll worry about roll over in the SUV's, Like you can track them, sure, but wouldn't the Miata be more fun/ less stressful?
Substantial-Ad-8575@reddit
Hmm, wife has chrono pack in her Cayenne GTS and Urus can be outfitted with performance air suspension. Lowers the SUVs at track. And wife done plenty of SCCA/WEC driving.
As for stress? It’s quite fun blasting around with my wife, doing lap times within 1-2 seconds of someone driving a prepped/caged M2 Competition. She hears all the laughs, and then goes to track to put down a blistering time slip.
Lately, she mentioned getting another Macan GTS. First gen tho. She hates the latest EV version, too much weight from battery and can’t hook up the tires as easily. Too much wheel spin and fade from tires/brakes an issue on 25-26 Macans at the track.
Ok_Manufacturer_1493@reddit
I agree takeovers have done damage to the car community, but I disagree with the idea that everyone involved isn’t a real car enthusiast. A lot of those guys have legitimate builds and know their cars inside and out. I’ve met people who built entire projects specifically for sideshows. You can criticize the activity without pretending they don’t care about cars. Those are two separate conversations lol

Truck guys are the absolute bane of my existence in Dallas. A bunch of shitty-ass drivers that think they’re kings of the road because they put a lift kit on their 15 year old Ram. I can drive a manual pretty good, not gonna win any races but I can start and accelerate on a steep hill without rolling or stalling, but don't own one. I am a 'can only afford one car at the moment so I bought one that can do everything I need decently' girl, but if I did have a manual I think I would also want an automatic for things like driving my kids to school, if I have to go anywhere before I'm fully awake, or running fast errands where I don't want to think to hard.
lo_mur@reddit
That can be pretty dependent on the auto and manual in question tbf
Mizar97@reddit
To be fair, WRX is one of the harder manuals to drive. I sold my Civic SI and bought one, and the difference was night and day.
I still enjoy it, but there are definitely some days I drive my automatic pickup because I can't be bothered.

I’m a cyclist and as you can imagine, this was big news in our community. I want to take a moment to remind people that no amount of frustration over having to wait 15-30 seconds to safely pass us is worth putting a human life at risk. I’ve been hit, buried friends who have been hit, and known many others who have lost friends and loved ones.
That said, all fortunately lived. 2 airlifted for severe injuries, 2 transported by ambulance, 2 treated on the scene.
Tykenolm@reddit
Really pisses me off when people complain about cyclists being on the road
Like, it's a fucking vehicle dude. 2 wheels, going 15-25 mph, and no safety systems. Just give them space
BruceBaller@reddit
I complain about it for different reasons as cyclists and pedestrians should really have their own travel paths separate from cars for safety
Tykenolm@reddit
Agreed, complaining about the cyclist instead of the government when there is no bike lane is annoying as fuck though
Possum_Jenkinzz@reddit
So ride single file or pull over. The ONLY times ive ever seen anyone get pissy about cyclists is when yall ride 7 wide taking up the whole lane at 5mph in a 55mph zone. Have some spatial awareness and share the road.
hatstand69@reddit
I would explain why you don’t actually want us to ride single file strung out the length of 8 cars, but I feel like you would rather be angry than have any sort of constructive dialogue.
I hope your life improves in a way that allows you to find some happiness.
Thatmaxfellow@reddit
What a tasteless response to someone talking about people their friends being killed. No one deserves to die because your lack of patience and humanity. Sociopath logic right there.
Possum_Jenkinzz@reddit
Don't care. If you cant do the speed limit you should be on the sidewalk or smart enough to fuck off when someone capable of doing the speed limit is behind you.
Thatmaxfellow@reddit
Again: sociopathic logic
Possum_Jenkinzz@reddit
Its common sense, spatial awareness, and self preservation. But every cyclist has their head shoved up their ass and a god complex.
Thatmaxfellow@reddit
God complex is how you’re justifying loss of life for an inflated sense of entitlement. You, as a licensed driver, oblige to mitigate damage, injury and loss of life whenever you can. That’s your responsibility to pedestrians, even if they’re being stupid. How calloused and ignorant can you be to think you’re entitled to end someone’s life because they have “no spatial awareness” as you put it. Hope your license gets revoked before you kill someone for real.
donotmicrowave45@reddit

Possum_Jenkinzz@reddit
It is, and I'm tired of pretending it isn't. Pedestrians and cyclists BOTH belong on the sidewalk.
zespak@reddit
Who made you king of the road? If you can't safely pass a double file, you can't safely pass single file. The file just gets longer. Passing means changing lanes, end off. Never seen cyclists at 5mph either...

Yes I know how to drive a manual. No, I’m not any less of an enthusiast. I’m just someone with a bad knee who wants to be able to drive their weekend car for more than 20 minutes at a time
puppeto@reddit
I grew up learning to drive stick, but I will never shit on someone for driving an auto. Every time I get into my old 83' Ford I'm reminded about why manuals are such a tiny sliver of new cars these days.
Shrikecorp@reddit
Yep. Had a small back and forth on this recently, after saying I'd rather have a PDK given the insane traffic here and the fact that anything I drive is my daily. More power to the manual fans, but having done both? Not for me.
Beneficial_Bass_6066@reddit
I swore id only drive a manual when I was younger.
In the 90s and early 2000s they were superior to an auto in every way.
Cars and tech have changed and its not the case anymore. Plus because of tech there's no mechanical connection anymore making manuals feel disconnected and spaghetti like.
I still like a good manual but in an older car where that full mechanical feel creates an experience that makes the actual speed and over all performance less relevant.
ReasonNo9316@reddit
I'd love to see one of the shift crew handle an old 3-on-the-tree with beat out rod bushings, or a legit hi-po big block with a 4 speed. Or a gated Lambo or Ferrari that is more temperamental than a tween girl who can't tune in T Swift.
GenXDad76@reddit
How about a 1962 Kenworth with a twin stick? Or god forbid a triple-stick Mack (but nobody really deserves that).
TheOriginalTripleU@reddit
Yeah both my parents are manual elitists and they practically disowned me for getting an automatic (plus having a large gas guzzling vehicle makes me doubly disapproved of). My dad taught me how to drive manual and I like the experience of it, I like being engaged with my vehicle.
However I have RA in my wrists and when it is painful then having to shift gears with my right hand (the more painful one) is just out of the question. I could have a manual as a second vehicle, but I couldn’t have it as a primary.
My parents act like automatic vehicles are total garbage made for the unsophisticated hoi polloi. It’s insufferable!

i dunno if its the internet or the influence of fast and furious movies or what but growing up nobody preached like they do today about the elite skill it seems to take to drive a dang manual transmission.
BlackDog990@reddit

And yet, non-enthusiast European teenagers in $5k shitboxes are better manual drivers than most of them.
Their super special skill is really only gatekept by the absolute lack of demand for affordable manuals that are commonly available in the European marketplace. Jeep Guys… not the off roaders who use their vehicles for the intended purpose. I have no beef with you.
I mean the guys with pavement princess that has seen more rubber ducks than dirt. The ones who wear “Jeep Life” gear but haven’t spent any time outdoors in years. The people who worry more about accessories and appearance than adventures.
What’s the point of the harsh ride and terrible fuel economy if you’re going to treat it like a Camry?
AdBasic630@reddit
I agree. I got a wrangler rubicon because I thought I needed the ultimate factory off roader. I live in a pretty rural area and go pretty deep back on trails for camping/hunting, not to mention rugged dirt roads and occasional farm work. Then when I got out there I realized pretty much any 4wd vehicle with a lsd and all terrain tires can get where ive been. I dont think ive ever actually needed to turn the lockers on and the disconnecting sway bar is nice but not absolutely necessary.
Absent rock crawling, which is absolutely stupid to take a $50k+ daily driver to go do, a bone stock sport trim is overkill for pretty much everything else youre gonna do. But the compensators will tell you youre inferior because you dont put another 50 grand in parts in it to do the same thing they do. Theres much less space to carry gear than you think there'd be and the seat angle is super uncomfortable for long drives. I should've just gotten a mid-size or compact truck for 20k less.
Tree_Weasel@reddit
I experienced this exact thing. And I think for most people a Jeep is a solution looking for a problem. I had a coworker who was a big Jeep guy (this was around 2015ish). We were all going to go fishing at this pond at a “State Natural Area”. They only allowed fishing once or twice a year, so it was highly anticipated.
He went on all week at work about how his Jeep was the superior vehicle to get out there and he could “tackle any obstacle the trail throws at him”. We mocked him because it was a state funded nature preserve with decently well maintained roads. Dirt roads in a lot of areas. But cut and clearly defined roads.
To make my point I went in a Ford Focus Hatchback. I parked it right next to his Jeep with the wench and the light bars and the 35” tires and the God knows what else he had on it. I brought up several times that the Ford Focus was the perfect vehicle for “tackling whatever the trail throws at you”. 😂
owdee@reddit
Seriously. I had a 2-door, manual Wrangler Willys trim. Zero mods but I went offroading at the local offroading park whenever I had the opportunity. I did trails that could have earned me those badges that Jeep will send you if you use their app to GPS record you doing them. I avoided trails that were obviously going to require 40s and a roll cage, but I never once encountered a trail I couldn't complete so long as I wasn't afraid of a couple scratches every now and then. In a bone stock Jeep on the factory MT tires and a LSD rear, not even a locker.
And yet, without fail, anytime anyone brought up my Jeep in conversation, they inevitably asked when I was going to mod it.
Which_Initiative_882@reddit
I love the videos of guys in stock YJ 4cylinders absolutely bashing them off road and going crazy places. I just know they get all kinds of crap from the same people youre describing when they get back into town after a weekend of 'Im so remote that it would take a helicopter a couple hours to get to us if something bad happened'.
That-redhead-artist@reddit
Whenever I see a Jeep or a huge truck thats covered in dirt and mud splashes, I immediately respect them more that I do any of the pristine ones driving around. Sure, some people probably wash their cars, but seeing something that's been used for one of its intended purposes says something about the driver.
AnActualTroll@reddit
Honestly compared to truck guys I think the “weird-modded-wrangler” scene is somehow less cringe. It reminds me of the original Jeepney scene in the Philippines (admittedly much more commercialized and soulless but what isn’t these days)
I mean maybe we just have a different Jeep Scene here but when I see five wranglers with eyelashes, decked out in decorative lights and Puerto Rican flags blasting cumbia music from a fancy (or at least loud) sound system, I don’t get the impression there think their cars are good off-road or that they want anyone to think that, I think they just like that platform as a basis to build a car on.
And unlike the Can-Am Spyder groups, Jeep convoys seem to be a lot better about everyone playing the same song when they roll together.
ManKilledToDeath@reddit
I have a bone stock Gladiator Willys (and I mean bone stock) but it's a diesel and I use it to tow my side by side up, down and around the mucky Appalachian mountains and whatever else I may use the trailer for. It's my main tow rig because I'll never tow more than 6k lbs and I'm not gonna pretend to need a F150, plus I like taking the doors and top off. But somebody would see it on the highway or around town without the trailer hooked up and automatically think it's just a grocery getter pavement princess just because it's not modded for trails
DirectAbalone9761@reddit

Ive never owned one but it’s the perfect car. It’s in expensive, will give a Porsche a run for their money on the track. It’s a great commuter car. Simple enough anyone could drive it. Never had a really bad body change. It’s a convertible or a targa it seems these days.
If I won the lottery I’d buy a 1ton pickup and a goose neck trailer that fit 4 Miatas and my friends and I would just go travel the country to different race tracks. Betting a dollar or a beer for the winner.

This is the difference between groups that meet on the street or cars and coffee and the ones going to the track. Snoo-43133@reddit
Explain what you mean by hoarding as investments? I have a few gmt400s and 800s to no only use but also because they are very clean examples of them and do hold their value well.
Do you mean people who buy a bunch of cars to flip?
WittyFix6553@reddit
Simply put, if you want to, or try to, or intend to sell it for more than you bought it for, without putting in work (fixing, making upgrades, restoring) to increase that value.
It’s pretty clear, I think.
Jire@reddit
Well I brag about how cheap my car was 🤣
WittyFix6553@reddit
Fuck yeah let’s play that game!
In 2020 I bought a 2005 accord coupe with 235k on it for $380. A friend was going to scrap it and I said I’ll match that price and pick it up within an hour.
Put another 20k on it (and about $1000 in parts) and then sold it in 2022 for $2500.
Bought a 2002 RSX Type-S for $500, a friend was going to trade it in and I did the same thing - I’ll match it and take it right now. Still driving that around as my daily.
Two weeks ago I picked up a 99 Saturn SC2 for $800. I’ve already spent another $400 or so in parts, but I think it’ll be another $2500 car shortly.

PhysicsAndFinance85@reddit
That's one thing I wish I put the time into learning years ago. I can lay and finish paint with the best of them, but that's the easy part. The body work and prep is an art form. I never did have the skills for it. I think a lot of that was a lack of patience when I was younger. A great body guy is worth whatever they're asking!
TimboFor76@reddit
My dad has built several high end street rods but had never done the paint. All the fab work, engine building, plumbing. But never the paint. RobertNeyland@reddit
Wait, is "Dragy" a new nickname for drag racing, or is there some app that has taken the place of the "locals night" at the 1/8 mile drag strip?
960603@reddit
Its an app/unit that goes in your car. People use it to simulate drag racing as it tracks your movement vs the length of a quarter mile. But its all GPS, so not the same as a real track, with real conditions lol
PhysicsAndFinance85@reddit
It's usually the idiots who think roll racing means something in the first place. You either can't drive, can't afford to make the car put power to the ground, don't know how, or all of the above.
Really they're the same as the dyno number crowd. They throw numbers around for imaginary internet clout with no idea what any of it means. I can't tell you how many people have bought "1000 whp" cars with a disneyjet sheet to prove it that didn't touch 700 when I strap it to a real dyno. They usually have an 11 or 12 second timeslip to go with the claim 🤣
whatisthisgoddamnson@reddit
Like they buy a car with someone else’s timeslip included as some sort of proof?? Why not go get one yourself?
PhysicsAndFinance85@reddit
They'll buy a car just because it has a big number on a dyno sheet from the most heavily manipulated dyno the seller could find. They want that bragging number without any idea that it's total BS.
I have a friend who doesn't learn the lesson no matter how many times he goes through it. He just bought another heavily modified C6 with an ad claiming it made 1,200 to the tires and the dyno sheet to go with it (Disneyjet using STD correction factor if that isn't obviously going to be stupid inflated). We strapped it down to my dyno (Mustang MD1100) and it made 860. The timeslips that came with the car line up perfectly with what we saw on a proper dyno. But all he cared about was that silly sheet that came with it.
Now he wants to throw a bunch more boost at it to try to get that number he thought he had. What's going to happen is he ends up with an expensive pile of shrapnel. Why? Because of a number that looks cool on the internet. The car is already faster than anything he's ever had. Fuck the internet points and fake numbers. Make the car actually perform.
RoamingRiot@reddit

Guys that think EVs are superior is every way.
Traxious@reddit
of course currently not in every way, but when batteries get lighter and have higher discharge rates, they will be objectively superior in terms of performance. but right now… nah
Drewdc90@reddit
Yeah battery weight is probably the main thing as far as performance goes (though I don’t know if top fuelers will ever be beaten by an electric drag car, maybe if it’s physically possible). But there’s things that are just enjoyable that only ice cars do. I love the sound cars, love feeling and playing with a good gear box. Just the character some ice cars have is what’s cool about cars.
Traxious@reddit
it physically is possible, if they use a Lithium Air battery. it will be lighter than it and electric motors are overpowered. ice cars have character, thats whats good about them
Drewdc90@reddit
Is it? The thing with top fuelers is the fuel is energy dense and weighs stuff all and the cars don’t weigh much either. Would be excited to see some break through like that happen. Might be a while before it happens though.
Traxious@reddit
yep, the hurdle with evs is that the lithium ion batteries weight a lot. a 50kwh battery pack made out of lithium ion is around 440-640 pounds. the same 50kwh battery pack is around 110 pounds. with electric motors, it’d likelu reach 1.4\~ 0-60 with the correct body
Users5252@reddit
I think that most enthuthusiasts are just too conservative and uncreative, they think that it is impossible to build a fun EV that could appeal to them just because all the EVs already on the market are econoboxes and luxury sedans. There's absolutely nothing stopping a team of engineers from developing a decent, barebones, lightweight, fun EV sports car given enough funding.
Traxious@reddit
lightweight evs exist! its called a 50kwh QILIN III battery, which doesnt really exist right now. china is making a roadster though so we’ll wait
dirtydrew26@reddit
So lightweight EVs dont exist.
Traxious@reddit
yes they do, they just physically aren’t on roads yet😭 the word “existing” just means that it has ever been existed, and it has existed! the m3 is around 1609kg. thats pretty light for a sedan. battery tech improves and improves every year. don’t doubt anyone
Users5252@reddit
1609kg isn't light for a sedan though, that's only a few dozen kilograms lighter than certain variants of the Audi A8. The M3 was never lightweight anyway. A lightweight sedan woould weigh around 1000-1200 kg
Traxious@reddit
lightweight with current standards
Users5252@reddit
The Civic is 200 kg lighter though
Traxious@reddit
also by “m3” i meant model 3, not bmw’s m3
Users5252@reddit

yea within the communith we call the model 3 m3 and the model 3 performance m3p, prob shouldnt have said it here.
Traxious@reddit
due to current battery tech😭 the m3 isnt using qilin III, if it was it’d be around like 1400kg
Users5252@reddit
BMW have the technology to mass produce carbon fiber bodies and possibly the chassis, they used it for the i3, they could use it for the M3 if they wanted to.

i dont hate em, ive test driven a volt and a bolt and thought they were perfectly fine compact class cars and yea that 0-60 non stop torque and speed is very fun. For those of us who rent or street park its non sensible to have an ev yet.
And no IDGAF if some charger somewhere in town can charge it from 20-80% in 20 minutes - i do not want to fuck around for 20 minutes watching paint dry every few days.
Traxious@reddit
i don’t think its smart to generalize ev owners, me myself own an ev due to torque and daily, but i also get why people wouofnt wanna own one

Pointlessly raised trucks with non-functional tire setups. For off-road performance you typically want to increase the tire size without raising the body relative to the chassis. The only reason to raise the body is for tire clearance, but it’s a compromise. Raising your body just to raise it makes your vehicle worse at off-roading, road holding, and efficiency. Not to mention this is usually executed in a way in which the suspension geometry is not corrected. The cherry on top is many of the products for this population are not properly engineered, and usually named something pseudo alpha like Rhino, Monster, Rebel, Hostile, etc…
Slammed vehicles with 5+ degrees of camber, specifically sports cars. Sports cars are meant to be driven and enjoyed. When a vehicle is so low to the ground that it can’t be turned into a corner with moderate speed and suffers from horrible ride quality, you’ve ruined the car. My analogy is buying a perfectly working vintage guitar and instead of playing it, gluing bedazzle gems to the frets because you think it looks cool, though now it can’t really be played.

Idk if you replied to the wrong post or not, but im having a hard time trying to understand how this relates to the post. Are you saying they cant read road signs? I genuinely dont understand how what you said relates to the post, or if your just hating on trumpies. If its the ladder then the hate is valid, but irrelevant here.

The people who treat cars like appliances and genuinely cannot understand why anyone would spend more than the absolute minimum on transportation. Had a coworker who ran the numbers on a spreadsheet for 20 years of ownership cost to justify buying the cheapest possible Corolla — then complained every single day about how much he hated driving it. There's a difference between being smart with money and refusing to enjoy one of the most basic parts of daily life.

We have a new guy at work in his early twenties. Like I was then cars are his life. Him and all his friends gather and hang out talking about a bigger turbos or a better fuel systemS. They’re mostly hot hatches and JDM type stuff. All seems pretty normal but I happened to see them out one afternoon on the freeway near my house. For a moment I was in a Fast and Furious scene, these guys were street racing in fairly busy traffic, and it was scary to watch that close.
dale1320@reddit
As Nad as all the aforementioned groups are, to me, the worst are the Bowtie Brigade ("if it ain't a Chebbie it ain't chit!"), and the worst of them are the LS Fanboys ("LS sWaP the WoRLd!!!"). They will espouse putting a "GM Corporate V8" on anything snd everything. BUT, if someone wants to swap any other brand in their chosen make or model, the pearl clutching and wailing and howling can be heard 2 continents away.
