My wife says I am a little boy trapped in a 44y man's body excited for GTA6 coming out. I said to her it's a cultural phenomenon. Am I the only "old guy" excited for this?

no you're not at all
Boring_Menu_5962@reddit
Not this particular game, but I do get excited for other ones and will even take a PTO day in order to play something I've been waiting for.
Cubejunky@reddit
I get excited for games, but I’m not excited for this particular one.. I’ll be 40 this year.
Powersurge-@reddit
Im millennial but this sub is always on my feed so maybe im a cusper, im about to be 41 and my body is ready for gta6.
jsand2@reddit
As excited as I am, I am equally content with Crimson Desert at the moment.
oldfartjr@reddit
Sadly, no.
kevtay1969@reddit
57 years old and excited as well. My wife of 33 years marriage is not a gamer but doesn’t care if I do.
AcidCasualty25@reddit
Is it actually coming out soon?

I'm old and am very excited!
BoBsMoK023@reddit

Phish_2000@reddit
No. 48 and I’m excited. My wife is older. She only had Atari. I grew up with Nintendo and beyond.
boozincruizin@reddit
I only have a ps3, from time to time im popping in gta5....too bad the online is gone
cagirlinoh@reddit
Absolutely not. Gaming “widow” checking in. Huz is 56 and looking forward to it as well. He and his buddies have been playing together online since 1996, all kinds of games. Your wife could consider thinking about every other place you could be (bar, skin club, or worse) spending your time and money. My philosophy? “At least he’s home.” 😎 Food for thought.
JPNess11@reddit
Playing since the original GTA (Vice City still favorite)...that was 1997 and I was 25.

(I’ve never played a GTA game myself, but I have my own games I’m very excited for coming this year)
WillEdit4Food@reddit
My wife got me a ps5 for my birthday so “we” could play. I think she might be more excited than I am - and I’m TOTALLY good with that 😀
Traditional_Cat_60@reddit
My wife got me a Wii and the new Zelda when it came out our first Christmas together. She had never played any Zelda game before. After I took about an hour long turn, she took a turn. That turn lasted six weeks.
I already new she was a keeper, but that solidified it.
Junebug35@reddit
Zelda is one of those games where the original is still the best. Ocarina of Time is a close 2nd.

I got my fiancé an Xbox series X for Christmas in ‘24 for similar reasons and he ended up barely getting a turn. I was not a gamer before, lol. I learned to play and it created a monster.

No story I need to really follow. Just join a game with a few people, blow shit up, stop playing after a few games.

If she said it in a loving way, just enjoy it as a compliment.
I'm dating someone who likes MMO-something- online games with other people and really seems to enjoy me watching it. And I enjoy watching too, close to making popcorn next time. To be clear, we have an understanding that it's fun for me to ask stupid questions and for her to ask stupid questions about rockets n' space stuff during a launch.

While not a fan of GTA in general I'm 47 years old myself and game daily, what a silly comment by your wife.
Hopefully she meant it in good faith, but I've seen too many SOs over the years call out a person's hobby as childish then have their own equally silly pass times.

My husband plays "Oxygen Not Included"
He is also repaneling our dining room in an Art Nouveau style. Last year he took the boyscouts rock climbing, he used to free solo. Two years ago he built stone age tools, his stone hand axe hangs proudly in his workshop above his router. He also took his saxophone to get tuned up because he's decided he wants to practice again after putting it away for 5 years.
Illustrious_Profile6@reddit
I mean I'm not excited for GTA but my wife and I both play games, she spent the weekend cozy gaming while I played Ghost of Yotei and it was a great weekend.
Mafamaticks@reddit
My pops is in his mid 60s. He's played every GTA and RDR 1 & 2. That's all he plays.
I gave him the trailer for 6 and he's just as amped as everybody else
AetheriaInBeing@reddit
My father, 72 soon, called me up a few weeks ago to excitedly tell me that he found some old RA2 discs and an old quake 2 disc. He looked out how many hoops he had to jump through to reinstall them and was somewhat disappointed though. I pointed out there were steam versions that were setup to run on modern machines if he was willing to shell out like $20 for all the C&Cs and 10 for Quake 2 or whatever it was at the time. I'm going to visit this weekend. I'll have to find out which he bought. He was thoroughly excited to find out he could just buy newer versions to keep playing.
Black-xxx@reddit
If you find the Steam version of RA2 still looks a bit weird because of the resolution, mouse movements etc I’d check out cncnet dot org. You need to own the game but it has updates that make the interface a lot better imo
AetheriaInBeing@reddit
So I shouldn't help him dig out a 25 year old machine from the basement and drive my mother insane?
Black-xxx@reddit
Hahahah ohhhhh you guys have an old PC… that changes things haha!
AetheriaInBeing@reddit
I know I definitely still have a machine I last upgraded in my undergrad. He probably has parts that we can cobble together. Though he's purged down a few times so we might be missing something.
MLDaffy@reddit
He may be able to use the codes on those old ones to get them on Steam. That's what I did with Half Life 1 and it worked.
AetheriaInBeing@reddit
Oh neat! I'll have to try that. I've still got a stack of CDs and somewhere..... I have a spreadsheet with all my CD Keys to my old games. Then he's got his. We had a few copies of a few games.
Civil_Ad_1172@reddit
Same, mine has been playing GTA since 3, he got Vice City for my ps2 so he could play it. He’s on a kick right now with Medieval Dynasty and sim racing
optimaloutcome@reddit
I'm excited for it. I don't have a PS5 yet so will be buying one when I buy gta too. I started playing GTA in the late 90s on the original pc version I'm not stopping now.

Forza Horizon 6, for me. I also own multiple arcade sticks for fighting games. Nothing wrong with it.

Encourage her to play Balders Gate 3. You'll lose her to Astarion but she will leave you alone about GTA6 henceforth.
ResurgentClusterfuck@reddit
Wyll > Astarion, because Astarion is a whiny bitch who doesn't understand consent
EsotericAbstractIdea@reddit
Wyll tried to rizz me up one night, I realized waaay too late what was going on. I was going for karlach of course
susieallen@reddit
Did Astarion steal your girl to? Wyll was written so poorly. Literally the worst romance option in the game. And the most annoying quests imaginable. Mizora was the best part about his storyline. I murder Wyll at the entrance to the grove so I don't have to deal with him.
ResurgentClusterfuck@reddit
No, I'm a woman who just doesn't like him lol
susieallen@reddit

Tigre_feroz_2012@reddit
Nope. I love GTA 5 & I'm extremely excited for GTA 6. I was not playing video games when the earlier GTA games came out, so this will be my first time experiencing a GTA release.
From what I've read, GTA 6 will not only be the biggest video release ever, but also the biggest entertainment product release ever. If anything, your wife is outside the norm to not be excited for the GTA 6 release.

🤣 I love this comment because at our age there are people who play video games and also lead alife where their responsibilities are met...
And then they're are the actual man-children who sit on their asses doing jack shit all day who get upset when someone calls them out. You never know which one you're dealing with on reddit, but there is a demographic.

No way, I’m here waiting on Elder Scrolls 6. Haven’t played GTA since San Andreas but 5 looked good
AutomaticNovel2153@reddit
People who get excited for a movie, TV show, concert, or sporting event will tell you you’re childish for getting excited for a video game. It’s a residue from the attitudes of our parent’s generation that saw video games as something for kids because they didn’t grow up with them. It’s the same as the old “video games rot your brain” garbage that old folk were pushing in the 80s. It still pops up even though it’s been proven to be much more beneficial to brain health than the passive watching they prefer. Should have been obvious that something that makes you solve puzzles doesn’t make you dumber.

NaturalSpecialist5@reddit
Hi, Gen X here, 50 year old woman. And um, your wife needs to lay off. Mmk. I'm not saying she's a bad person, but why can't you be excited? If they revamped Vice City, which was my favorite, I would totally buy that right now. As long as you're not obsessively playing games, I don't see the problem. This is what we grew up with. I was a teen and in my early 20s, so SEGA was more my thing as a kid, but PS was my bag from mid teens and beyond. GTA, Tony Hawk, Silent Hill..

I’m excited for Diablo 4’s expansion next week. All she’s said is, “We have theater tickets that night.”
fizzinator9000@reddit
"No dear, YOU have theater tickets. I have an appointment with Destiny" 🤣
DifficultMinute@reddit
Haha nah. It’s a D4 expansion. I’ll be dressed nicely, at a table eating decent buffet food, and watching Hairspray on the 28th. I probably won’t get much work done on the 29th though :)
That said, if it was Diablo 5, or StarCraft 3, or Warcraft 4, we might have a different discussion lol
KiijaIsis@reddit
Im running D3 since I got to my stopping point for the current season.
The first day of release is normally a connection shitshow anyways.
Enjoy the theater with your wife and at least by the next time you can play the expansion release bugs will be fixed.
jasonrubik@reddit
But, she's right. We are all that little child trapped in an adult body.
giraffemoo@reddit
Same! I remember my first husband looking at me like I grew a second head for playing Animal Crossing. He thought that it was a "little kids" game. I was mocked for liking things and it was so exhausting.
My current partner and I aren't afraid to be excited for things, even if the other person isn't as excited as we are we don't yuck their yum.
OP, you're far from the only xennial who gets excited for video games.
aweedl@reddit
Yeah, me too. I don’t know shit about video games, so I can’t relate directly to OP, but I know that feeling all too well, and it sucks.
Everyone should have a partner who, even if they don’t share the exact same interests, should be supportive when the person they’re with is excited about something they love.
PMcOuntry@reddit
Same. My ex would only support hobbies and music he approved of and gaming wasn’t one of them. I choose to be single before I would be with someone like that again.

JayRexx@reddit

MissKhary@reddit
It depends on their relationship and all of their other interactions though. I tease my husband about being "such a boy" for buying and "playing" with his Transformers, G.I. Joe, He-Man and Star Wars figurines. (He says it's NOT playing, it's posing). His home office is floor to ceiling filled with them.
He knows that I'm not seriously judging him for it. We both play MMORPGs together, my office is full of Dragon Age, Disney, Tim Burton stuff, Totoro and board games, so I'd be hugely hypocritical if I was being serious.
JerryfromCan@reddit
I was worldwide leaderboard good playing OG Black Ops as competitive gaming e-sports was coming up and it began to look like a real potential “job” with the launch of Blops 2 and the precursor to COD league. Mentioned it in passing as a possible career and my wife of the time said “no way I would be with someone who does that for a job”. I was incredulous and asked “Even if I made more money than I do now?” She said “No, it’s not a real thing”.
I was making great money doing what I was doing but was bored. We aren’t together anymore for lots of reasons, including that one.
ihatecatboys@reddit
For real, I play MMO's with a guy who has to get his wife's permission to buy computer upgrades or new games and he's the primary bread winner in the home. This shit is crazy.

Never let any woman tell you things like that- because one day, it will break you- it is just a matter of time.
We are ALL kids trapped in adult bodies, including women- let that ‘child’ live because if you dont that inner child will rebel.
There is a reason why older people become more childish and ‘fun’ because they realized that that is the only way.
absentlyric@reddit
My GF isn't into my hobbies, which I get considering our age difference and upbringings, but she lets me do what I want without being judgemental.
I gave up trying to find someone that is into what Im into, I found that person and it was great for a while, but all of the other issues outside of our shared hobbies just wasn't worth it.
KelseyOpso@reddit
Guy comes here to talk about his child-like enthusiasm for GTA6. Gets told by the Internet that his wife sucks. Classic Reddit.
Bermnerfs@reddit
This is something people accept in relationships that I just don't understand. We are all unique beings with our own unique interests and hobbies.
If your partner doesn't enjoy a hobby that you do, they should at least be happy that you have something you get joy from and support that. As long as it doesn't become an obsession that is monopolizing your time and taking priority over quality time together, it shouldn't be an issue. That is how well adjusted couples operate.
It's perfectly healthy to have interests you pursue alone separate from your partner. If they only want you doing things that they like, that's a red flag imo. They should have their own pursuits and hobbies that they do themselves or with friends too.
I enjoy mountain biking, my wife has zero interest in it, but she thinks it's great that I have something that I am passionate about and brings me happiness. If she hated and criticized me for my hobbies, I would seriously question if she even likes me for who I am, or if she only cares about what I can offer her.
I had friends with shared hobbies that got into relationships and suddenly fell off the face of the earth. They always seem miserable and it's like they're no longer allowed to spend time with friends or doing things alone except for the very rare times when their partner has something else going on.
I never understood why people put up with that. No one should completely control how their partner spends their time as long as they're neglecting their families. But I also can't feel bad for these people because they won't stand up for themselves and would rather sacrifice their own happiness to keep the peace with someone who doesn't even seem to respect them.
Azcrul@reddit
Also same. I’ve finally embraced liking what I and everyone else likes and even discovering new things to enjoy that are perhaps child like or shit that I thought was ridiculous (like the fancy fidget spinners my buddies started collecting.) I work around a lot of teens and it helps in that aspect, and I feel like it keeps me young and happier. My spouse wants to game, but we haven’t had time to get a second PC yet or upgrade to a current console, which also means I have no current way to play GTA6 whenever it does release lol.
But yeah, life can be too dark and depressing to not enjoy the little things and get excited for what you love.

Not married anymore, but my ex-wife and I used to have our own Xbox 360s and TVs right next to each other, and we'd curl up on a love seat together and play GTA Online. how are you getting excited for gta6?
I haven't been following closely but the release schedule seems to be permanently stuck on "coming soon" with no actual real timeframe within this decade.
has something actually been announced that is credible?
Scrotchety@reddit
Gotta say I'm a little envious you can still work up the excitement. I see GTA5 and all I can see is mean-spiritedness. Everyone's so nasty. Every satirical ad and real-world parody comes with a tone of hate. Lots of pornography, gamified. When I see shitty human behavior out in the wild (for instance, a young teenager with brute strength curb stomping his teacher because she took his Nintendo away during class; or a carload of kids going on a joyride spree running from the cops until they crash into some innocents) I think yep: there's some people who were taught by the game as their substitute role model. Good on you for chasing after your fantasy, I guess. When you mow down the hooker you just fucked, I hope the next gen graphics can really simulate the blood soaking through the stacks of floating glowing spinning cash
RoundTheBend6@reddit
Not that game, but a couple others.
Same thing happens the other way. I’m sure she’s been excited about something you have no interest in.

Life is so miserable right now. If this is the enjoyment, as long as you are aren't ignoring responsibilities and such to do it, so be it.
GleepGlop2@reddit
Was GTA V a cultural phenomenon? No. It's just the latest thing for consumers to consume.

Late 40s here, I’m excited for you, and I’m excited for me when this shit finally drops.
jse000@reddit
Your wife sounds hateful. Reminds me of my ex-wife.
Fortunately, my current wife is awesome. Unfortunately, I have to wait for the PC release of GTA 6.
Brave-Ad-7460@reddit
I’m 40 and excited for it
JungLeo143@reddit
No. My husband is 42 and video games bring him joy. It used to get on my nerves, but then I realized that was actually pretty shitty. I wish I had things like that that brought me that kind of joy. It’s honestly dumb to shit on someone else for having a hobby. He does everything I need him to do and doesn’t slack in order to play the games. I bought him a ps5 after he supported me through nursing school. Then I bought him a VR set for continuing to support me through my awful new grad phase. Men should not be shamed for video games as long as they are taking care of business. Do yo thang.
Bleezy79@reddit
I had a very rocky relationship with a woman who thought that way about me. I’m so glad I left her
Kiethblacklion@reddit
I'm not overly excited over GTA 6 but yes, I still let my inner kid out quite often even though I am also 44. A prime example, I was in Walmart today and saw a Blokees brand model kit of Darth Vader for $15. I was very excited about it and grabbed one. My 12 yr old son helped me put it together when I got home. It's going on my desk at work tomorrow.
weekendatbernies23@reddit
Your wife doesn’t understand. GTA6 is going to be a life simulator where you can act on all the intrusive thoughts

Aren’t we all just kids trapped in old bodies?
tomqvaxy@reddit
I've been playing Crimson Desert nonstop. 48yo F. Let people have fun?
Weirdcloudpost@reddit
If MY wife said I was "a little boy trapped in a 44 year-old man's body"...
First I would remind her that I am a bit past 44. Then I would laugh and tell her she is probably right.
irish_faithful@reddit
We grew up with video games. We will CONTINUE to game for the rest of our lives. I absolutely despise when people try to shame others for their hobbies.
WickedWitchofHR@reddit
I envy you. I've resigned myself to ElderScrolls VI releasing the same day the Leafs win the Cup.
HerissonG@reddit
I’m not excited for much these days. Will I buy it and play it? Sure. If it never comes out, do I care? No.
iolmao@reddit
Exactly.
And I'm counscious that the golden age of GTA is over.
This is like The Simpsons season 32.
Unnecessary since season 18.

wiserTyou@reddit
Same. It's by far my favorite part of being in my 40s.
BulkyRaccoon548@reddit
Honestly I'm not that excited for GTA6 myself. I didn't enjoy GTA5 as much as previous GTA games. I'd love another Read Dead though.
2DEUCE2@reddit
Same here. I love Red Dead and I absolutely loved GTA 3, Vice City and San Andreas. 4 was meh to me and 5 was fun and I finished the campaign and was just done with it.
I’d be excited for another Red Dead but GTA 6 isn’t even on my radar.
RamenRoy@reddit
Anhedonia is treatable, brother.
HerissonG@reddit
Feeling that way isn’t a bad thing that needs to be treated . I’m not excited because deep down I know that I will feel better when I go to sleep knowing that I’m getting the things done that need to be done. Thinking about GTA 6 and playing GTA 6 isn’t going to pay for my kids extracurricular activities.
Kgby13@reddit

AceChronometer@reddit
With all the stresses of life, I think it is pretty cool to have a hobby that still connects me with my younger self. So yeah, when you play a game for bit of time your head can clear and you can feel like a kid again. Is that a bad thing? FYI, I understand this is not a kids game, but you get my point.
OmahaWarrior@reddit
My ex wife always said my hobbies like coin and sport card collecting, video games were so stupid because i was in my 40s. They bought me pleasure, stress relief . I wasnt doing this mind you for hours daily, missing bills or not going to work. I was paying all bills etc. Just an hour or two daily if that. Not saying your situation is similar, but all of us should have hobbies at all ages and should not have to explain ourselves. I too am excited about gta6 and im 4 years older. Enjoy it when it comes out!
Austin-Tatious1850@reddit
Im 42 and I'll be excited when it's FINALLY released but not until then.
wildmaninid@reddit
Not at all. I'm older than you by a bit and I'm also pretty excited for it. I'm also not a "gamer" by any means. I play zero online games. I like GTA and only play the story. I also play RDR and Death Stranding. That's about it.
My wife is stoked that I'm excited for a new game. Says she wants to buy it for me.

No. Maybe. Who cares? But, no. We will never be the “old guy” when it comes to gaming. We will always be the OGs (and that does not stand for “old guys”). Video games don’t become less fun. They are not just for kids. Far from it. Old people in gaming are the that were 25 or over in 1984. VGs were originally marketed to kids (us) so it became incorrectly perceived as a kids’ thing. The longer you play, the sharper you stay. Enjoy.

I think it's perfectly normal for people out age, who were raised w these hobbies, to hold on to the value of that hobby. Maybe try to educate her on the history of computer gaming and how integrated it is into our culture. There's lots of things in the "pros column" I'm sure you could list as well.

And it will indeed be a landmark in not just gaming, but entrainment media & a cultural phenomenon, like you say. I don't want to cast aspersions on your wife, or anyone else's partner/family member/friend but I often feel people are jealous that gamers have such an engaging hobby, or simply don't understand gaming at all, comparing it to watching TV or a passive hobby, when it's really not.

Your wife has an inaccurate perception of video games being for children.
Remind her that more adults play video games than children. Point out that video games are just a different medium for telling stories - just like movies, tv shows, and books. But in video games, sometimes it's the player's story and not the writer's.

Nope. Been waiting on GTA6 through three console generations at this point. If it got bumped to PS6/Xbox whatever, I would probably just stop caring entirely.
We’ve seen a tidal wave of reaction to basically all media about this game that’s JUST the anticipation over it. I’m over all of that. I want to see some gameplay. I want more on the story. I want to know how little of this game is going to be in the single player only.

I'm the opposite. I wish it would be good, but I know in my heart they'll fuck it up and make it feel like shittiest console port ever. Billions of dollars and you'll have to scroll through menus instead of, oh I don't know, having hotkeys you can setup on the hundred keys of your keyboard.
space_wiener@reddit
Complaining about people playing video games is such a dumb take. It’s not different than someone watching a series. Only difference is the game is 100x more immersive than the tv show.

echomanagement@reddit
My wife "tolerates" my hobbies, but has none of her own. This is a phenomenon I see EVERYWHERE and I do not understand it. My wife's hobbies are talking to her family, reading, and looking at her phone. Both of us are actively parenting and she's great at everything she does, but I do not understand why she has no other active hobbies. Neither did my Mom. Neither did Grandma. Neither to nearly all of my friends' wives, with a few exceptions.
In the past, I think this was related to cultural pressures to do homemaking shit, which is completely unfair. But in my case, we are equals, and I'd happily suppory her in whatever hobby she likes, but she doesn't seem interested.

Umm, as a 41 year old woman who CANNOT WAIT for the game to finally come out, I can safely say the North American economy, if not the world's economy, is going to be on standstill on release day. It wouldn't surprise me if the internet itself crashed from the number of people attempting to download it.
The bigger issue is her criticizing you for it.

My dad said it best though. We all hit somewhere around 27 and… that’s who we are. One day you wake up and an old man is smiling back at you in the mirror and he ain’t your daddy. He’s you.
My wife used to game but it never fed her anything “real” or accomplished anything irl. Shes not wrong, but I never really needed it to. Shes got her own demons and mine… mine get sequels and upgrades. I mean you have to be the peak GTA Demo. Maybe closer to 40 than 45?
When did they start dropping? You were 31 when GTA V dropped and were barely legal drinking age when San Andreas/Liberty City etc were released.
I mean a lot of folks get too busy to crush open world games after 35 or so- but “little boy” today is playing some prize box, roblox, mine craft stuff- not a cinematic and enormous setpiece.
Rojo37x@reddit
I am looking forward to it but also have a massive backlog of games I should play first. I haven't bought a new game for full price in years. Idk if GTA6 will get me to break that trend. I always have a lot of fun with GTA ganes but then burn out relatively quickly.

My husband is 43 years old. He plays Dungeons & Dragons and Magic The Gathering. These things make him happy, and while they're not my cup of tea, I support the shit out of stuff that fills his cup.
It's so wrong to me that adults get socialized out of "play"; like after you turn a certain age fun things aren't allowed anymore because now you have to work, pay taxes, and do "adult things". F that. Hobbies where we play should be normalized. We still need that. I'd bet more adults would pursue whimsical things if society told them it was OK to do that.

I work in HR and i legitimately want to know how many people request PTO that day and how many people call out. It’s one of those things that will get tracked for stuff like the Monday after Super Bowl.
There’s a commercial where a teen boy brings home a couple buddies and his mom come out wearing her headset brings them a snack says hi and goes back to her game and the boys realize she’s like a legend MMO player in the fictional game. I fucking love it. Gaming is a mainstream hobby. For all genders and ages.
Not for nothing gaming is a great hobby as we age, reflexes, mental puzzles plus you can find community. The Smash tournaments and Mario Kart nights are going to be lit at the old age homes when we get there.

This is an accusation for any activity men like that isn't 100% wife-sanctioned. If you are engaging in something that is not for the benefit of the family or a pastime that is not one of 'hers,' then you are either a little boy, a big kid, disengaged, or just selfish with your time. It doesn't matter if it's GTA 6, a sick new Lego set, a fantasy football draft, drinks with buddies, or a fire in the backyard. I even get crap for mowing the lawn because I'm outside for too long while she's in with the kids. At least I pretend to respect the garbage murder/cult Dateline or 20/20 she's got running all night.

I've noticed this thing that's happening lately, which is people in their mid 30s and their 40s acting like it's weird for people our age to be excited for video games, or to play them a lot, or to know about them.
Like, that once you cross an age threshold, you're supposed to stop, and grow up, and forget about that stuff??
I'm not saying your wife is being that way, and I think it's very cute the way she described it, but I've just been hearing so many people saying such bizarre things about millennials and even older Gen Z people and video games. Like the way people keep talking about Zohran Mamdani making video game references! They're like IT'S SO WEIRD FOR HIM TO TALK ABOUT MARIO KART, like, no it's not, he's 34!
I think maybe it's got something to do with how we all got used to the only video games liked by grown ups being like, Galaga and Street Fighter and the first Mario.
I'm rambling. I'm 43. I fucking love video games. I'm so excited for GTA6 too!

I'm not into GTA but I'm looking forward to Indiana Jones coming out on Switch 2 in about a month.
BillTheConqueror@reddit
I’m cautiously excited. I don’t play as much as I used to but I still keep a gaming PC up to date and have a ps5 pro and PC handheld.
I think the biggest reason I’m excited is that I moved to South Florida in 2023 so the game is going to be set in my backyard.
jarvis646@reddit
I’m gonna have to buy a PS5 so I can play this game
villainoust@reddit
No way! We out here. I don’t think it’s an age thing, we just have more responsibilities to juggle and don’t get to play for huge pieces of the day. If the baby wakes up around 3:30-4am and I get them back to sleep that’s perfect gaming time 🤣
junepath@reddit
Not a GTA fan but I get the excitement, every time they release a new main Zelda title I have a little countdown.
Late-Connection980@reddit
Isn’t it still 6 months away? This post got me all excited until I googled the release date.
Famous_Strike_6125@reddit
Sitting here playing Fortnite, bro.
jmac11281@reddit
GTA 6 doesn't have me excited but there is a new Castlevania coming out sometime this year. I will probably be 45 by the time it comes out and I am excited like a teenager.
We need to have our inner child somewhere in our body to keep us young.
Plutoniumburrito@reddit
Sorry, but I hate hearing shit like that. There’s no age limit on anything.
Don_Shetland@reddit
Also 44, I am very excited too. My wife is very excited for the new Fable.
Automatic-Ride-8887@reddit
Im 46, and I cant wait to get it. May be my last installment. But if it isn't and GTA 7 comes out when Im 60, I'll be excited then too
Grongebis@reddit
which $500 doohickey do i need to play it?
tartacus@reddit
GTA5/Online, is the most profitable piece of entertainment media of all time. Including movies, music, gaming, etc.
So, no, you’re not the only older person who likes the series and is excited about 6.
uniquecleverusername@reddit
As a progressive, feminist man, I try my best to unpack my past baggage, and do what I can to empower others and promote equality in every way. My wife does not like excessive swearing and conflict and violence, and the game is in no way appropriate for the developing mind of my elementary aged son. Also, in the current economy, our money is tight right now. So to answer your question, yes, I am seriously considering buying a PS5 just so I can play the game when it comes out.
Witty-Management6094@reddit
Do you guys have a Nintendo? She needs her own game.
CaveJohnson82@reddit
Well, I'm a 43 year old woman also excited for it. My husband is also a gamer though so wouldn't say what your wife said (even though he doesn't care about GTA particularly).
I'll never understand people disparaging others leisure activities*. There's no moral superiority in liking reading but not gaming (as an example).
*I will caveat by saying of course if an leisure activity is taking over your life to the detriment of your responsibilities then maybe they have a point.
Brock_Savage@reddit
Asking Reddit for validation is more childish than excitement for GTA 6.
Eledridan@reddit
Sucks that she has no joy in her life so she feels the need to destroy joy for others.

I didn't even know there was a GTA2, let alone a 6! But I do have 150 hours in Slay the Spire 2 over the last four weeks...

How old is your wife? I guess I’m an old lady that’s excited for GTA 6. I’m going to play it with my kids (they’re teenagers).
metalmachineZ@reddit
Hell no you're not!! Welcome to the club my friend!! I just wish I had a wife who also shared some of my excitement sometimes.
wharblegarble@reddit
BlackestHerring@reddit
I’m a 44 year old and have always hated GTA. But I like Zelda and single player stuff like that. While I don’t like GTA, you are free to nerd out about what you like. And I celebrate the shit out of it. I also recognize I’m probably in the minority of gamers and you’re right, it is a cultural phenomenon. Whether that’s good or bad for society is another topic.
VixxenFoxx@reddit
I'm 45, a woman and I can't shut up about GTA6. I've waited a literal decade for it
ZzzSleep@reddit
I hate how video games still can't shake the idea that they're only for kids.
souvenirsuitcase@reddit
I'm a 48 year-old woman that's excited. It's coming at the end of my cancer treatment (I hope on both counts). It's going to be a celebration! 🥳
Unhappy-Fox1017@reddit
She’s uneducated. I’m 43 and can’t wait. Does she know we’ve been waiting literal YEARS for this release? We weren’t even in our 40s when we first heard it was in the works. So hush, little lady, we’re all just kids trapped in adult bodies.
CEEngineerThrowAway@reddit
I recently started playing Magic the Gathering again with some other dads after not playing since high school, and went to a release event at a game store for the new set yesterday.
One of the perks of being a big introvert was my wife was just happy I was making to a public event alone and proud that I was making more adult friends.
Iittletart@reddit
I'd be more excited if it was RDR3.
WarhammerRyan@reddit
No, but I haven't been excited for a GTA game since GTA3.
Its a personal preference...I get excited about other games, but not gta or Skyrim
They have re-re-re-re-re-re-released them so many times that I just want them to stop selling the literal exact same thing to people and thinking it is ok. "GTA VI is new though you idiot" would seem to be the valid counter point. Thing is, I just don't care about GTA any more, so, go have fun stealing virtual cars and fucking virtual hookers, I'm gonna go save the virtual world instead.
PumpkinSpice2Nice@reddit
My husband is excited too. He’s been playing the current GTA through to get ready.
lsp2005@reddit
Your wife is an AH. Playing video games is a normal hobby. Being excited about a game franchise coming out with something new, is exciting. I don’t have to love a franchise to be happy that someone else is happy.
Feisty-Comfort-3967@reddit
Did she at least say it while smiling, then tell you how much she loves seeing your inner child shine through sometimes? If not, I hope one day she finds a fun hobby.
just_some_guy2000@reddit
First I would like to say that I think it's cool to get excited like a kid for something in your 40s. Second I don't even play gta5 but I will get gta6 once it's on pc, because raspberries to the PlayStation.
BathAutomatic6972@reddit
She doesn’t have a problem with GTA. She has a problem with you being independent from her version of you.
Does she give you grief for having any other emotional enjoyment from something she doesn’t provide?
This is evidence of an abuse tactic. Men do it to women in form of limiting contact with their friends. Women do it to men with this behavior.
If it happens again, call her out.
Sad-Structure2364@reddit
My wife supports my hobby, sucks that yours doesn’t
Surfer_Sandman@reddit
Yeah I play video games and get excited about new ones. Pretty normal i think.

Not my shtick but go for it. I liked the top down GTAs better, but I'm weird. You do you and enjoy it though!
Tuffwith2Fs@reddit
You tell your wife it's a healthy way to be and she'd probably be happier if she let her inner child have a little more real estate in her life too. Hell no you're not the only old guy excited for new video games. Especially GTA
Slim-Jim89@reddit
36, about to turn 37 next month. You may feel excited for the next gta game, I am certainly not. I am getting to a point in my life, considering of doing something else other than gaming. I used to enjoy gaming starting at age 2, nowadays not so much anymore
apf6@reddit
I mean, the fun thing about being a 44 year old is that some part of you is still 10 years old, another part is still 20, still 30, etc. Those parts of your brain don’t just disappear!

The whole “too old to care about video games” thing is tired and ridiculous. You need some disposable income to enjoy this hobby, which was hard to come by when you’re a kid relying on your parents or working a crappy job!

I used to be a young man excited for it to come out, but alas now I'm an old man since it's taken so long.

I'm not into GTA, but I'm stoked for anyone who is, its how I felt when I finally got to play the most recent installment of the Legend of Heroes series. TBH I feel sad for those who don't have a hobby/passion that can get them that excited - they're bright spots we need!

Nope, I'm also 44 and eagerly waiting.

I upgraded to the PS4Pro when RDR2 came out, and I might upgrade to a PS5Pro when GTAVI comes out. But between the recent price hike and how good my base PS5 is still doing, I'm less inclined to do so this time.
Also not pre-ordering, not buying it on day 1, etc.
Stang1776@reddit

RetroDadOnReddit@reddit
I'm not particularly excited for it because it's gotten so much hype that I've moved on by this point. But I definitely do get excited similarly for other games that come out that I'm a big fan of. Talking down to someone about their excitement is little child energy.
Biscuits4u2@reddit

I was super jazzed for Red Dead Redemption 2 when it came out cause I loved RDR 1 so much. Much like GTA 6 its release date was pushed back several times/years. I'm looking for to GTA 6, but not going nuts or anything. 5 was great.

Yourtrueenemy666@reddit
I’ve had every gta game since it was a demo in a computer magazine. Every release has been excellent. For younger people it may be more a matter of taste with so much choice and disconnect with the history of it. For us it was integral. Will it be one of the biggest titles ever released? Almost definitely. Will it be excellent? Almost definitely. What’s not to be excited about? Now put the fucking thing out already!

46 here and I am super stoked for GTA 6. I had a NES when I was like 8 or somewhere around that age. I literally grew up gaming. Why should I give that up just because I became an adult? Fortunately, my wife is an avid gamer herself and she's got a year and a half on me.
beau92082@reddit
I don’t know how many others had parents like mine who had to justify what I was buying even when I had my own job as a teenager otherwise it was a waste of money. So now I heal a little bit every time I buy a lightsaber to hang on my wall, or a new game that I’ve been looking forward to (including GTA 6). What’s even better is my wife is very supportive. She got me in to ren faires and our kids love them too. So long as you’re taking care of your responsibilities, there’s nothing wrong with treating yourself.

I'm looking forward to it, but I don't know what month it's coming out.
Is it getting soon?
not_very_creative@reddit
not about GTA but I am excited about Godzilla Minus 0.
I am often excited about stuff meant for kids.
edasto42@reddit
I don’t know if I’d go so far as to call it a cultural phenomenon. That’s a big term for a bit of a niche thing that’s closer a financial necessity dressed as a video game. But enjoy it. It’s not much different than getting hyped about a new album coming out, or an art installation opening, or a movie premiere.
AndrewInMN@reddit
I’m 46 and I’m very much excited for The Witcher 4. I’ll for sure buy GTA6, I’m just not particularly excited for it.
jesusmansuperpowers@reddit
I will be 44 when it comes out. Bought a ps5 just for it (I play everything on PC but can’t wait any more)
QueenSqueee42@reddit
Btw, thinking video games are for children is peak Boomer vibes, and as a 48-year-old woman I think that kind of thinking is what turns people "old". 🤗
rainy-brain@reddit
I am even though I don't think I'll end up playing it for years after it releases, haha. But I have great memories of GTA2 and GTA3 and I've played the others, too. I think people overthink it. Video games aren't for kids. Whatever people did when they were kids, if it continues to be fun, it stays part of their fun. Rode bikes as a kid? Do you shame people who still ride bikes as adults? Played soccer as a kid, still on an adult league? Watched TV as a kid, still watch TV?! what?!
mastawyrm@reddit
gtao soured me on the whole franchise but I'm still cautiously optimistic about 6.... If it ever actually comes out
swaggering_yak@reddit
I’m a 47 year old woman and spent yesterday playing video games and riding go karts with my kid. I didn’t realize fun had an age limit
brc37@reddit
I have zero interest in it, but I can recognize why my fellow videogame players are excited for it.
Accomplished-Run221@reddit
Ask your wife who she thinks isn’t a young person trapped in the body of an aging one. People on their death beds are a good place to start.
thunderlips36@reddit
At this point, we need things like this to be excited about. That said, I can't stand the franchise after San Andreas but I'll be excited that you're excited. I was pretty happy to finally get Hades II on the Xbox
YouHadMeAtFacts@reddit
I have rarely played video games since college.
Automatic-Arm-532@reddit
I haven't been excited about a video game since Tony Hawk Pro Skater 2
venk@reddit
GTA came out 30 years ago and GTA3 was 26 years ago. Why wouldn’t old guys love it?
SilentDrapeRunner11@reddit
Nope, I completely understand the excitement. I'm 43F and can totally see myself taking time off of work when Witchbrook and Haunted Chocolatier finally get released.
schwing710@reddit
GTA 6 will be one of the very few shared zeitgeist moments we’ll experience in the 21st century. From a pop cultural standpoint, it will be huge.
trashpanda6798@reddit
Eh, I’ll be right there with you. Wife doesn’t care, I buy maybe 2 games a year, she’s glad I don’t have some other expensive pastime
QueenSqueee42@reddit
My man is turning 50 this year and he's excited, and I'm excited for him because I'm a fan of joy! And other video games, tbf.
rayfin@reddit
I never played GTA, but would be excited if I didn't stop playing video games a year and a half ago. Nothing wrong with gaming though. I played daily my entire life. From my NES I got in 1985 to my first PC game in 1994. I'll probably play games in a few years I'd imagine, but right now that time and energy is being focused on building.
dungonyourtongue@reddit
Your wife could be the subject of a BubbleTape commercial.
bitwarrior80@reddit
Yes and no. I think the game will deliver on the hype, but for me, trying to figure out how I will play GTA6 without my nosey kids watching will be the bigger challenge.
Throwaway_inSC_79@reddit
How old is she, and is there anything that she likes that might be considered child like? I ask that just to see if she has, but not to counter argue. It shouldn’t matter. We shouldn’t make fun of anything somebody likes, as long as it’s not harming themselves or others.
Yellow_Curry@reddit
lol just upgraded my PS5 for a Pro just for GTA6 haha.
mastawyrm@reddit
Delayed again, now it's coming out on the ps6
Character-Solution-7@reddit
I’d much rather have youthful enthusiasm than turn into a cynical curmudgeon. Growing old doesn’t mean that you have to give up fun.
MattLocke@reddit
Eeh. Firstly, nothing makes you sound like an “old lady” more than equating videogames to something only little kids would be excited for. Total out of touch mom “every game is a Nintendo” move there.
Secondly, GTA has always been a mature series. Sure plenty of young kids found a way to play the “do crime and bang hookers” simulator.
But the irony of a series like GTA being the poster child of controversy for its mature content being put in the same box as like a Mario game is wild.
Millennial_Falcon_85@reddit
41 m here. I told my wife I’m taking off work the day it comes out to play it. It’s the only real chance I can get several hours in without the kids around while my old ass is also still awake 😂
babaganoosh30@reddit
Im not excited, but i am curious to see just how big they are going to go with GTA6 as far as map size.
phillyrat@reddit
Im excited about it - though I know I won’t play it, but I’ll still watch gameplay and reviews for sure.
I can’t fit any gaming into my grownup life, it seems
Remote_Independent50@reddit
People envious of other people's happiness and hobbies are gross
Way_2_Go_Donny@reddit
Never let the old man in.
Solid-Hedgehog9623@reddit
My friend, I can’t wait for gta6! Forget cultural phenomenon. You shouldn’t be guilted for your hobbies.
IsopodNecessary9844@reddit
Nope. Also waiting.going to buy an Xbox for it though. My last iteration was the 360.
CarlSpackler22@reddit
Video games are mainstream entertainment.
GTA6 will be 100x bigger than any movie release.
Such_Impression_3417@reddit
As a 43 year old, i am very excited and my wife knows when it comes out on Xbox i will download it that day.
hardwarecheese@reddit
You have a hobbie that you are looking forward to enjoying, its good for your mental health. I'm not into gta games but im 39 and I totally get the appeal.
Cromasters@reddit
I don't think it's weird that you are excited for it.
I think calling it a cultural phenomenon is overstating it though.
PMmeHappyStraponPics@reddit
I'm looking forward to it, even though I haven't played GTA5 yet
But the idea that video games are for children is such a toxic take.
I_AM_DEATH-INCARNATE@reddit
Anytime my wife starts to question the media I consume, I remind her that she reads porn and watches the bachelor.
body_by_monsanto@reddit
I’m an “old” woman and am taking one of my vacation weeks the week GTA 6 comes out.
ashesandfire@reddit
I’m also 44 and I still love gta v. You are definitely not alone
call-lee-free@reddit
You are not alone. 46 here and I plan on taking a week off of work to play it.
gtindolindo@reddit
Tell your wife to get off your back about things youre excited for. What a buzz kill.
guaztronaut@reddit
I stop being excited for sequels after a decade. Plus I'll still be play Crimson Desert it seems.
Alarmed_Pie_5033@reddit
I'm sure your wife has her "thing" that she gets giddy over.
Ok-Worldliness2161@reddit
I’m sure you are not alone in either respect…
AshDogBucket@reddit
I get excited for video games when they release new Mario/DK games that aren't 3d 🙃
ResurgentClusterfuck@reddit
Lady gamer here (even though GTA isnt my thing)
Bring excited for things isnt reserved for children only, when one has been part of a fandom like GTA for as long as people have, of course anticipation is gonna be high
Liken it to some nostalgic TV show or book she likes
ScrotusSpunkmeyer@reddit
Not at all. I already got congressional approval for special edition pre order once it drops. Try getting her into those smut novels. It'd be a win/win.
manguy12@reddit (OP)
She is as smuttiest as the come. Thank you though. I feel validated
ScrotusSpunkmeyer@reddit
If you know, you know. Congrats and good luck, op. You'll get your copy and some extra stuff. No worries
The_Fell_Opian@reddit
While I don't care about GTA, as someone who was waiting on pins and needles for Silksong and Elden Ring I totally get it.
1877KlownsForKids@reddit
I'm planning a three day mini cation for this.
geese_moe_howard@reddit
I'm 47 and am no longer capable of excitement. That doesn't make me mature though.
papabear556@reddit
I couldn’t care less about GTA6 or GTA in general but when Fallout 4 was about to come out my wife unprompted said, “I’m about to be a fallout widow aren’t I?”
She was.
whoisbill@reddit
My wife plays games too. So she gets it.
adamosity1@reddit
I think you will be eligible for social security before it comes out haha
IowaJammer@reddit
It will likely be the highest grossing video game ever. You’re not alone.
atxcaligal@reddit
I’m currently playing RDR2 and so stoked for GTA6. And the new Fable. My middle aged lady nerd knows no bounds.
sorryimsoawesome@reddit
Nope, stoked for GTA and Fable and Wolverine and 007. Game on brother!
59apache01@reddit
Grown-ups just don't get it!
thewalruscandyman@reddit
No, I'm a manchild too- just not over GTA6 or Elder Scrolls 6, or Fallout 5. Not anymore. And not on principle. Fuck these companies, if they wanted my money they would have provided years ago. I'm a manchild who loves my games, but I'm not a sucker or a simp.
JackBlackBowserSlaps@reddit
Haha defi not
