devotion recommendation

After a childhood of having christianity shoved down my throat (no shame to anyone who is a devout christian, it's just that i was never given a choice), i became an atheist. And although it was freeing, I was left with an huge question mark of "what the hell are we doing here?!" Be Here Now by Ram Das was my quiet meditation reading and devotion after my first experience with Ayahuasca. I'm not recommending you go off and do any substance on a whim, but it's what helped me sort the tangle of thoughts in my head and lift the veil on quite literally everything. For starters I will recommend meditation. It could be sitting quietly, uninterrupted yoga while focusing on your breath, a hike in the woods..: something where you plan uninterrupted quiet time for yourself daily. That way you are starting your own devotion. If it helps, listening to some inspirational speakers or reading essays you on a philosophy you're interested in helps

I'm so glad the director seemed to get the feeling right. I'm going to see it with my Gen Z nephew this afternoon! My boomer parents thought the trailer looked boring (go figure)

I think the issue is by the time all the "good" heirlooms got to the Boomers, they rode them til the wheels fell off (didn't bother taking proper care of them). So when they left it for us it's broken garbage. Then they call themselves leaving us the stuff that they (boomers) bought, but by this time everything was made cheaper and out of plastics and particle board. Their "hand me downs" is junk and has no passion behind the craftsmanship. I'm living close to my parents now and try to clear something at least once a week while they can still walk/lift things. I'll have to wait until they pass to taken the tvs out of every room tho

THIS. During college I met a guy and met his mom about a year into our relationship. I stayed with them for a couple weeks and every night she would cook breakfast and leave some sort of pastry/bread out for breakfast before she headed out to work around 6 am. I was floored at the care nurturing she provided. Then after dinner she encouraged her kids (adult children) to make lunches out of the leftovers for work/school. I asked my bf at the time if this was normal and not just for show, and reassured me that was normal life for them. It was also one of the many reasons none of the kids moved out until they got married. They also weren't forced out like my siblings by 18. Heck, my parents were so difficult that my younger sibling moved out during high school. That's when I realized what healthy parent/child relationships looked like

I grew up on military bases and they had us sing the star spangled banner every morning with our hand over our heart. We also sang 'This land is my land' and 'my country tis of thee'. Also before every sports game, movie in the theater, or major event they'd either play the star spangled banner or someone sang it and we'd have to all stand and place our hands over our hearts. It was frowned upon if you didn't stand and show respect, even if you were a very young child. But when my dad retired from the military and i entered middle and high school, we did none of that

For those of you that ended up divorced. Did you remarry? I don’t think I will ever get married again…

Spiritual-Promise402@reddit

Was never married, but my last LT relationship I had (5 yrs) turned me off to it. I feel like after several LT relationships (4) I've lost hope that there's anyone that believes in staying together through thick and thin. People are more accustomed to keep looking for a better option these days that any disruption is seen as a possible deal breaker. It's very discouraging, even for dating. Not sure if anyone else has experienced this, but it's been my experience so far after 30 yrs of crashing and burning

I really love my new natural schedule. I purposefully catered my schedule to wake up at the butt crack of dawn bc it's when my brain is the most alert. For you, I would say to pay attention to your natural rhythm. If you're more comfortable sleeping in and your brain is on fire in the evenings, then that's what you should strive for. What's important is that you feel well rested no matter your sleeping/waking schedule

High school graduation parties…

Spiritual-Promise402@reddit

OP, if you were poor like me, we just either take out for dinner to celebrate (a group of graduates and our parents). Or we had a get together at home where whoever was hosting would bbq and other parents (and other graduates) would bring a dish. At some point the parents would either take over the back yard or living room and the graduates would head to the bedroom for games and such

Same, all of a sudden I wasn't able to sleep through the night, THEN I wasn't able to fall asleep at night, and when I did finally fall asleep, I would wake up anywhere between 12-2 pm and was so exhausted during the day. So I changed a few things: - started taking these supplements daily - Prenatal Iron 27mg (i have a history of anemia), D3 5,000 iu (perfect for winter blues), Fenugreek and L-Theanine. - force changed my sleeping patterns - shut down blue screen(s) at 9:30, take Melatonin, in bed by 10:30. Took almost 6 months for this routine to stick. Especially since I'm a light sleeper and my cat is up with zoomies at 4 am. Now I fall asleep without Melatonin between 10-11 and wake up naturally by sunrise. So I changed my disruptive routine from sleeping 4-5 hrs a night to 7-8 hrs (aiming for 9!) My goal was to train my body so well that I didn't need alarms

My experience with it is it can be great to quickly summarize tedious data points and use pattern recognition to suggest possible trends. As a tool helping with the workload I don't mind it. But there are too many CEOs ready to replace entire departments with a few messy prompts, just to save on overhead costs. That I don't agree with

Being a church kid I wasn't allowed to curse or even say the "vulgar" words like butt and pee (had to say bottom and tinkle). FF to my early 20s and I move to NYC and "fuck" becomes a useful verb, noun, adjective, pronoun...

I had very similar parents, which is bizarre bc the first 10 years of my life I was a latchkey kid. Then all of a sudden we move to a different neighborhood and I'm not allowed to leave the house unless it's for church, or with church folks. So I stayed at home online a lot. Then they wondered why I didn't have any friends?!

Exactly. The amount of energy and water used to for just 2 cups, a bowl, a fork, and a small pot or pan isn't work using the machine. I live alone as well and it takes 5 mins to wash my dishes for the day. I'm not going to wait an hour+ for new items. My apartment needed more storage, so I used it to store Tupperware and extra shopping totes

See this movie? This movie can fuck all the way off. Woke up with nightmares last night, I’m 42 and haven’t seen this movie since I was a preteen.

The rug has already been pulled for me.. i'm slowly watching all if my friends either being laid off immediately without explanation (like me), or being forced to integrate AI as their inevitable layoff looms above them. And this is happening across all tech dependent industries. What I think we can do now is revert back to non-tech positions. This could mean labor heavy jobs, artesian makers, or anything else that takes more time, energy, and HANDS, to do the job

I'm convinced these tracks is what divided all the christian sub-sets into believing "everyone is doing it wrong but me." Jesus fucking christ, the audacity. I believe this very discriminatory mind set from these propaganda pieces is what drove a wedge in my family. Literally believing the same thing, but not in a very specific way.
