Also includes Bryan Adams' "(Everything I Do) I Do It for You" performance at Slane Castle, Ireland.

The opening theme song gets me so hyped

Why a spoon, cousin?

RIP Alan Rickman. He was the best part of that movie.
Spiritual-Promise402@reddit
He was the best part of Galaxy Quest as well.. miss him!
der_innkeeper@reddit
Watch the Director's Cut.
Its even better.
Attic81@reddit
The only thing I didn't like is Morgana turning out to be >!the sheriff's mother!<. I thought that kind of changed the relationship a bit too much. I preferred it when she was just some old hag.
But otherwise, yes it's awesome.
der_innkeeper@reddit
Nah. It was fine. It made it that everyone was a user/lying.
lying_flerkin@reddit
He totally stole the show. Kevin Costner is a ...fine actor, but in no way could keep up with Alan Rickman hamming it up and clearly having the time of his life.
amccune@reddit
For me, it was Costner’s accent. Just spot on.
mysecretissafe@reddit
I have a running train of thought that all Kevin Costner movies are just backdrop of Kevin Costner pretending to be whatever he’s cast for, but he’s not very good at it.
_OptimusRex_@reddit
I love that movie and it will forever have a place in my heart but, come to think of it, so many actors outshine Costner in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves: Freeman, the guy who plays Friar Tuck, Little John, even the lady who plays John's wife "Ello my Lover!" It's not a wonder he got so much grief for the role.
BoyznGirlznBabes@reddit
Christian Slater's accent is better lol
TenBear@reddit
Agreed no scenery was left unchewed

"I can't do this with all that racket!" is one of the best inappropriately hilarious line deliveries in cinema history, IMO.

iamthealpha384@reddit

guitar_stonks@reddit
Memories of my mom jamming that song in the wood paneled station wagon with her Virginia Slims.
RBXChas@reddit
We sang it in middle school chorus. We were stoked.
kolemsai@reddit
I remember the summer after this came out, my mom sent me to summer camp and they had various "camps" with different themes you could choose. I chose Archery camp because of this movie.
taleofbenji@reddit
Fun fact: "Fuck me, he cleared it!" is an anachronism because that word hadn't been invented yet!
Banjo-Oz@reddit
People who weren't alive or the right age will never know the absolute stranglehold this movie and that song had on the world for a brief but very intense moment in pop culture.
I still vividly remember seeing it in my local cinema and it was a true event movie.
Plus playing that cassette over and over on my walkman.
Plus the absolute bizarreness of seeing toyshops with even-then-vintage Kenner Star Wars "reskinned" as tie ins for this movie, like the Ewok Village!
captain_flak@reddit
LOL yes. Kenner was the king of phoning in the toys. Also, it was kind of weird to put out Terminator 2 action figures when the movie was rated R!
passamongimpure@reddit
lellywest@reddit
This movie has it all, check yer bingo cards:
Brian Blessed being loud
Kevin Costner being impossibly wooden and unable to do an accent of any kind
Morgan Freeman in full “MN” trope
Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio turning in a performance too good for the film she’s in
Christian Slater, for some reason
Michael Wincott being creepy af
Alan Rickman gloriously chewing every piece of scenery in a manner so inspired it actually made the film worth seeing
Unexpected Connery!
Snarkonum_revelio@reddit
I’m convinced watching this movie as a child and seeing my mom get giddy at the Sean Connery cameo is why I still get delighted by cameos
lellywest@reddit
FR, nobody saw it coming. And then ya gotta hand it to Mel Brooks for his version of the same cameo. Perfect.
Snarkonum_revelio@reddit
I always gotta hand it to Mel Brooks for just about everything he does. Men in Tights is a masterpiece, though.

Alan Rickman > The Rest of the Cast > Kevin Costner
BlackLion0101@reddit
Silly_Scientist_007@reddit
I've always loved how Kevin Costner is the only person in the whole film who doesn't speak with an accent 😃
Automaticman01@reddit
It's been ages since I've seen it, but I'm pretty sure Christian Slater didn't have an accent either.
theelephantupstream@reddit
He gave a consistent effort though, at least!
hamburgler26@reddit
He’s consistently inconsistent, but he at least brings some sort of attempt at an English accent some of the time.
theelephantupstream@reddit
I think his accent just sucked. We’ll never know what Costner’s accent would have sounded like 😂
Silly_Scientist_007@reddit
There were moments where Christian Slater at least attempted an accent...
I can't really bring myself to say it was a British accent 😂
Solid-Hedgehog9623@reddit
I don’t know man, ‘Fuck me, he cleared it’ sounded very New York City. Oh hang on, you meant English accent…
blondeviking64@reddit
That is correct
Devium44@reddit

Rickman > Morgan Freeman > Costner > Christian Slater
Atworkwasalreadytake@reddit
Christian Slater out-acted Costner in this movie.
Not_So_Bad_Andy@reddit
Costner was somehow worse than Christian Slater. Especially since... everyone knew what Christian Slater was. Costner's allegedly a good actor. But this movie... yuck.
I would've walked out of the theater if not for Alan Rickman.
bigdickpuncher@reddit
I enjoy the movie and watch it every chance I get.
Not_So_Bad_Andy@reddit
Honestly I haven't watched it since my sister brought the new release VHS home from Blockbuster. Would probably like it more... or maybe just appreciate it for what it was.
RhubarbGoldberg@reddit
No, don't do it. Keep your memories. We watched several months ago. My husband barely remembered any details and I was full of super nostalgia and was confident we were going to be blown away by the cinematic gem.
It's a total shit bomb, lol. We could barely get through it, the whole thing is such a mess.
Robin Hood the TV show on mgm+ is really fun, though. Totally recommend!
And to prove I'm not anti-Costner, Water World hits harder and better now than it did then. Field of Dreams is still absolute perfection.
theelephantupstream@reddit
Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio is easily on par with either of the first two.
Starsteamer@reddit
I really wish they'd employed another actor for this. The films great except for Costner. He's awful in it.

Nothing could ever make me hate this movie, or Bryan Adams' soundtrack
KeySatisfaction197@reddit
I love that there's a throwaway line on Brooklyn 99 about this movie.
"If we're real friends then you'd know when I lost my virginity."
"Ah man, you've told us so many graphic sex stories."
"I have, but a REAL friend always remembers their first."
"Summer of '91 at a screening of Robin Hood Prince of Thieves!"
"Correct. Bryan Adams' soundtrack and Kevin Costner's flawless British accent got us in the mood to get gross. Aww, guys, we ARE friends!"

Snarkonum_revelio@reddit
And two years later we also got Bryan Adams, Sting, and Rod Stewart everywhere with All for One (All for Love) from Three Musketeers. I kind of miss the era of Bryan Adams power ballads.
zoominzacks@reddit
Christian Slater with the best line in the flick
“Fuck me he cleared it”
Tofuloaf@reddit
I rewatched the movie a few years ago and I couldn't believe that I just bought that scene as a kid. Yes, clearing the wall and landing on hay is standard Hollywood swashbuckling fare...but they have no way of knowing that there's hay on the other side.
Robin sees the opportunity to jump on a catapult and be hurled over a wall, almost certainly to be splattered across a stretch of cobblestone, and just thinks 'Fuck it, full send'. Which I guess is in character but I expected better from Azeem.
Naive-Jello428@reddit

It apparently was built in the same British studio by the same set builders as Batman. Some of the best ever, imo.
Michael Kamen worked on the soundtrack around the same time he worked on Nothing Else Matters with Metallica.
Getting all this from Gemini, so could be made up.

It is wrong to love this movie, but I do.
A short list of lesser documented problems that probably fucked us all up.
Robin’s hairline. This is a medieval combover. Between Costner and Michael Bolton, we learned in the early 90s that moxie and plausible deniability coverage must be all you need. You better be takin notes, Will. Yet another reason to hate that he’s your brother.
He burned her hair? Jeezus. Yeah, you WERE a dick. And he also just burned her arm. Also, she just fought him better than most of the guys in this movie, yet she does this weird annoying little whine voice sometimes.
“You got bawls of solid rock”… says the guy he just hit in the balls? Confusing. And I know, John’s saying it was daring to hit him in the balls and pretend to drown him… but even as a ten year old, this seemed like a lot to laugh off.
The legs joke in the rape scene. Back the F up… what is this movie rated? Pretty sure they sold toys.
And yes the accent, BUT. I’m saying the British actors are the problem. That’s right. It is so American that honestly, why not just make the thing in Oregon? If we’re taking their hero, just take it all. This is worse. It could make some sense if he was talking to Baloo voiced Little John and the everybody was randomly swing dancing to jazz music. But right next to a random smattering of VERY bri-ish peepoll? No, guvna. It don’t werk nohw, do ait?
