Every day I learn about more hidden checks. I sign multiple medical charts daily. By signature has become \*First initial, squiggle, cross a T.” It’s how I sign everything. My background check got kicked back recently (for a .22lr revolver, no less) for an “illegible signature.” Clerk says, “I’ll need your legal signature.” Me: “that’s it.” Clerk: “no, like how you sign your driver’s license.” Me: \*pulls out driver’s license to show him identical signature\* Clerk: “Dude, just write your name.”

It truly is wild what people have managed to insert. I have a folder full of wild abdomen/pelvis images, greatest hits include a full-size police-style Maglite flashlight, a lightbulb, multiple full cans of sprite. But my favorite was a walkie-talkie (antenna-up), wanted to try to find its frequency, call it, and see if I could hear myself through the abdominal wall.

It’s “poison” similarly to how alcohol is. Will a couple of beers (or Big Macs) a week literally kill you? Of course not. But if you consume it daily, then there’s a good chance eventually it will play a role in your declining health. There’s a reason cardiovascular disease is a leading killer in the US.

Also, we can pretty much keep anyone alive, “barring injuries incompatible with life” which is basically, like, decapitated/horribly mutilated. Epinephrine does a great job of keeping that heart beating. Also, when you switch your mindset to “nothing matters, who cares about my ‘huge problems’ because I’ll be beyond caring about them soon,” sometimes it becomes easier to see that the ‘huge problems’ aren’t so insurmountable. See it when a lot of people are planning to commit, they suddenly appear happier and more carefree because they’re prepping to escape their personal hell. Is a big warning sign that’s commonly missed, as people think “great, they’ve finally turned it around!” Glad it is going in a more positive direction for OP.

That’s a legitimate reason to have a bit of a different view on it. Sorry that that happened to your brother (and you through extension). I am very much of the opinion that actual abusers should (die in an unexpected way, which is not me calling for violence and getting banned). I just worry that prosecuting these crimes enters “thoughtcrime” territory, like “well, he clearly likes this stuff, that hints he has a chance of offending in the future, let’s get him now!” I’m sure it would save some victims. But it’s also dystopian, will also destroy the lives of many who would never move past this point of taboo, and gives the gvmt far too much power to prosecute “potential criminals.” But we are all entitled to our own views, and I totally understand yours as well.

Not getting into morality or arguing on the basis of “okay or not.” I just think that, for a government to be able to prosecute someone for a crime, there needs to be a victim. There is no victim here. Feel the same about “possession” and “consumption” drug laws. If people want to inject poison into their veins (or their minds) that is their choice, the only victim is themselves. Obvs with real CSAM there are literal, tangible victims. There isn’t with computer-generated/drawn art.

She’s also, in reality, a drawing. Look, I’m not saying that people who “enjoy” these images are healthy individuals. But there is also no victim here. I’m all for people who abuse *living, sentient* children, or who get off on images/videos of said abuse being housed underneath the jail, but arresting people for cartoon images of fake children doesn’t seem like a good precedent to set for governmental power.

This is absolutely true. I’m just posting a counter to the common “alcohol doesn’t count” theme in discussions regarding drugs. It is a mind-altering, highly-addictive substance with documented long-term negative effects on health. If this description was provided for any other substance, no one would contest that it was a drug. But for alcohol, it’s apparently “different.”

I mean… alcohol is one of the very few drugs that causes FATAL withdrawal symptoms, and the whose withdrawals I regularly have to provide lifesaving care for as an ER nurse. I’ve stabilized a few patients near-death from opioid/benzo withdrawals. I’ve had to stabilize *countless* EtOH dts. Granted, I’ve Narcan’d far more opioid ODs, but that’s simple compared to a seizing alcohol withdrawal pt. At least the fent OD isn’t moving.

My comparison was Nascar. I’m not sure an enthusiast comparison is where you want to go. Besides, if you look at the hardcore enthusiasts in most hobbies, you’re gonna find people you dont wanna be associated with. A lot of ugly dudes do the same. I’m like, my man, the dip you took in the barrel of cologne, nose+cartilage piercings, heavily-gelled comb-over to “hide” that you’re balding (alternatively, super long hair, usually in a ponytail), and “youthful”/edgy clothes on a 40-yr-old are doing you no favors. People have a hard time accepting that they are the problem, and make “easy” changes such as style first quicker than “hard” ones, like working out regularly or becoming successful financially.

One of my friends from my hometown stripped naked, dodged all of us as he sprinted out of the cabin we were in, jumped into his car, and then kicked his own windshield out. Then he sat there looking out of his new driving hole, looking quite contented. Was fine for the rest of the trip. Clearly shrooms do not agree with the machine spirit.
