They’re not live, but… if you can touch it, it’s definitely real.

First, those are cartridges, not bullets. Second, they are not live. You can tell by the indentation in the primer as well as the fact that they’ve been reloaded and nickel or chrome plated for aesthetic reasons. The keyring through the hole in the base of the cartridge is also a giveaway.

Real or not, the rule still applies that if you have the ammo you need to buy the gun that goes with it

'Stress toy' 7inches long?

Yea olive green and had a name of some surplus store. It's tucked away in storage somewhere or I would snag a picture. It's the soft foam squeeze like a normal stress ball.

View on Reddit #76726361

dc0de@reddit

The bullets are real, the casings however, are inert. You can see that all the primers have been struck. Meaning they've already been fired. Somebody simply put the bullets back on the fired casings. Pro tip the bullet is the thing that kills people. The casing is what holds the powder and the primer, the entire assembly is called a cartridge.
View on Reddit #76718244

Propoganda_bot@reddit

Yes and no, they’re dummy rounds used to train dudes on MGs like the m240, so they’re real in the sense that they’ll chamber and cycle in a weapon, but not real in the sense that they won’t fire
View on Reddit #76712799

-pechos@reddit

Seriously? I forget sometimes that some people literally know nothing about guns.
View on Reddit #76712000

Peacemkr45@reddit

There's a difference between real and functional. Those are real; I mean you're holding them in your hand. They however are not functional meaning you can't just put them in a gun and shoot them.
View on Reddit #76710733

BigBoarBallistics@reddit

The cases are real, but they are inert rounds because the primer has already been fired. Can't tell on the actual projectiles but it doesn't really matter. If you're asking, these are not live rounds.
View on Reddit #76651688

hlfazn@reddit

To be anal, the primers have only been struck, we have no idea if all of them fired. I'd like to think whoever made this took care to only use fired rounds, but this is why I get nervous when people fiddle with realistic looking ammunition or grenades. We had a guy who's grandad had two grenades on their mantle. At least one of the grenades was real.
View on Reddit #76658171

brondynasty@reddit

He kept a live grenade above his **fireplace**??
View on Reddit #76708080

Pte_Madcap@reddit

Thats why its nickel plated, denoting its as dummy. Just like OD for HE, blue for training, etc.

I was a little punk rock/metalhead in my late teens, early 20s. Had a couple different bullet belts. They were all real, spent cases, that had new bullets seated in em. It was always fun trying to explain to some security at a show that there was zero powder in the shells and that the primers were spent.
View on Reddit #76707508

Shayde505@reddit

Nope
View on Reddit #76703611

inert_liquid@reddit

They look like inert dummy rounds. The primers are used since they have dimples from the firing pin.
View on Reddit #76703159

nice_pickle_@reddit

In the 90’s and early 2K those bad boys were pretty popular as belts in the Punk scene. They’re typically real shells that have been fired. Everything else is just theater prop basically
View on Reddit #76652291

They were a thing in the early/mid/late 80's as well in the punk and metal "scenes".

View on Reddit #76701230

bobroberts1954@reddit

Can't see the bullets. Those are real casings and the primers are dented as if they have been fired. The bullet is the pointy lead part that sticks out of the casing.
View on Reddit #76698171

Deeschuck@reddit

Yes. They are fired cases that have been reassembled with bullets and then nickel plated. They are not live rounds. There is no gunpowder or live priming compound in them, so they are essentially just metal, but those cases were fired from a real firearm, and most of them could be reloaded and fired again.
View on Reddit #76651811

iroll20s@reddit

I wouldn't be surprised if the bullets are some cheaper alternate. Some of them have clear mold lines. The crimps looks weird too. Might make them unusable?
View on Reddit #76686906

dooms25@reddit

They probably did something to make sure the bullets never come loose as well. For a high wear (potentially) item like clothing, I can see how the bullets could easily be set back into the casing, so they probably modified it in a way to prevent that which would make pulling the bullets really difficult

Those are actual expended cartridge cases chromed for show in the first pic, with actual bullets in the cases, pic two. Ones a keychain , bonus! Lightly pull on those bullets to see which one comes out and has a cotter pin set up like tweezers. It's the 80s version of a doobie holder.

Just an interesting tidbit, don’t wander in Washington DC with them on. Yeah they have this silly law against owning any kind of bullet casing even when they’re already fired. One person was arrested for using shotgun shell Xmas lights (I think he was narced on by his ex).

View on Reddit #76658316

EasyMode556@reddit

There’s a lot of replies here saying how they have already been shot, and to expand on what they’re referring to, notice the small dimple on the bottom of all of them. That’s where the firing pin hit it to set it off. It would be smooth on an unfired round.
View on Reddit #76657980

duffchaser@reddit

real as in will they fire, no. they look to be real training round for weight. when i practice uspsa I resize and put a bullet in fire brass to keep weight close in training mags
View on Reddit #76657498

Sianmink@reddit

They're a \*little\* sus, to be properly and obviously rendered inert they would need a hole drilled in the case near the base (like where the split ring is through the one) but these are all fired cartridges that have been loaded with a bullet and no powder, and apparently nickel plated.

View on Reddit #76652586

Remote_Teach1164@reddit

Those are fired cases with projectiles stuffed (usually we call that "stuffer" as the whole thing does not match characteristically though it might perfectly fit in appearance) and tinned for decoration. Those are a mix of .308 and 7.62mm NATO here.

View on Reddit #76652421

RickySlayer9@reddit

It appears that they “were” They’re once fired, you can see the primers have been struck. It looks like there’s bullets put back in, they might be fake bullets or real “bullets” It can’t be fired because the primer is expended. There’s probably no powder. They’re likely completely inert
View on Reddit #76652327

glowingjello@reddit

They're at least real used casing. Can't see any place making mock up ones putting in the details of the variety of different headstamps like that.
View on Reddit #76652263

TheBullpupGuy@reddit

Yes those are real bullet casings. At least some of them are. They probably found fired shells and pressed in bullets than plated the whole thing. You can take one bullet out of the link system and try and pull it apart if you wanted to find out more.
View on Reddit #76651766
