"Multiple refueling aircraft and an E-3 Sentry AWACS command and control plane are among the aircraft damaged, according to preliminary information. A photo showed significant damage to a USAF E-3" - that's a bit more than "damage"... That Sentry is obviously never going to fly again. I'm glad to read that it seems it wasn't crewed at the time it was hit...

Yup, pretty much all airliners do. They come in handy when the flight deck crew has to get out in a hurry (most have ropes/rope ladders for emergencies), or... Get a bit of fresh air

At the end of the day, it's hard to opine from a listing, you need a thorough hands-on inspection of the plane and books. But if you are abbrand new pilot, I would advise you not to get an Ercoupe, you would end up picking up counterproductive habits (no rudder), unless you also fly other types very often
