Bombardier Global 6000 VTOL

Based on its approach I would say it’s a harrier.

This is a Harrier, no doubt

All that wind and still nailing the landing markers. Nice

That’s not van Nuys airport

Landing on 35L means the winds are ripping out of Newhall Pass and it’s a BUMPY day to fly in SoCal

I flew out of VNY when it was full of small planes. Now it’s full of Gulfstreams and Globals. Citations are considered so low class!

Flies like a Moller 900 skycar.

Bombardier Global 5000 or 6000, main difference being the 6 more feet of cabin space in the 6000 and about 1000k difference in range.

I've always wondered, does that sound like the guy on a bomber or does it end with an "ay" sound?
View on Reddit #82380306

Zealousideal-Yam801@reddit

It’s Canadian, it’s going to end with an “eh” 😉
View on Reddit #82449444

West_Good_5961@reddit

It’s pronounced hon-hon-hon
View on Reddit #82436489

raptor_jezeus@reddit

It's a Quebecois French guys last name. ~BOM-bard-yey. Pronunciation varies between languages and accents, but any pronunciation ending in 'ier' sounding like 'ear' is wrong.

I used to work at a shop that occasionally made parts for them, but the boss didn't know.

Ha! He was VERY knowledgeable when it came to bending steel for aircraft parts. I'd machine a part while it was flat, and he'd bend it 3 or 4 times and the features would be within true position .003"

The company is named after its founder, Joseph-Armand Bombardier, a French-Canadian inventor and businessman. What does "Bombardier" mean? The word is French and carries a direct military and historical meaning: Literal Meaning: A "bombardier" is a bomb-thrower or an artilleryman. Specifically, it originally referred to someone who operated a bombard (an early type of large-caliber cannon or mortar). Etymology: It is derived from the French word bombarde, which comes from the Latin bombus, meaning "a deep, booming sound" or "a buzz." Military Rank: In the British and French militaries, "Bombardier" is a specific rank for a non-commissioned officer in the artillery. Essentially, "Bombardier" is an occupational surname, similar to how Smith refers to a blacksmith or Miller refers to someone who worked at a mill.

Apparently it's pronounced bom-bar-dee-ay.

I’m impressed with the video. Obviously shot from quite a distance using a telephoto lens. I’m curious about how far you were from the airport to make the plane appear to hang in the air and remain nearly the same size as it moved farther away from you. Great job!

How does this camera angle work..?? Very unique and different. What might be the elevation??
View on Reddit #82380047

Tenzipper@reddit

Don't know the elevation difference between the runway and the camera, but seems to be looking north, as you can see the VOR past the end of the runway, past the road.

jay_in_the_pnw@reddit

that's amazing for so many reasons, but what I note is that anyone unfamilar with VNY would think this is some small rural runway surrounded by greenery and this isn't smack in the middle of LA, and surrounded by hundreds of square miles of homes and businesses.
View on Reddit #82392728

Misophonic4000@reddit

Van Nuys is most definitely not "smack in the middle" of LA

There are many so the guys calling in noise complaints can use tail numbers. So what if they had to move the noise sensors a dozen times so the trash trucks wouldn’t set them off.

Angle/zoom make it hard to judge length, but it looks too short to be a 7500. Definitely a Global Express–type—I’d guess a Bombardier Global 6000, maybe a 5000 since they’re pretty similar.

You could probably post a close up picture from any angle of any 1 square foot of a plane and someone here would be able to tell you the make, model, tail number, serial number, and what the pilot flying ate for breakfast.

I think maybe a challenger 300. It’s hard to tell if it’s a challenger or global from this angle for me. The winglets aren’t bent out so I know it’s not a 350 or 3500.

Saw a Cessna land like that a while back when we had some pretty heavy winds. Felt like it took 5 minutes for him to just get to the runway. He probably shouldn’t have been flying anyway if there’s a danger you can’t fly fast enough to get back home.
