Picking an AIO

FatalGamer1@reddit

I have a 9950X3D and I have the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 dual tower air cooler and it’s fine. In gaming I get maximum 70C and in rendering maximum 80-85C. You don’t need an AIO, there are air coolers that works as well as an AIO.

Is this 1080p budget gaming pc best for AAA games

FatalGamer1@reddit

Solid 1080p build and even some light 1440p. The only issue is being on AM4 platform, because although we don’t know how long AM4 will continue to receive support, it won’t be that long and only just a few more years.

If you have the money to upgrade then 100% upgrade to AM5, because there’s only going to be support for the AM4 platform just another few years maybe then you’ll be spending more to upgrade to AM5.

Please Someone Convince Me Not Buy A 5090

Posted by FumetsuFume@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 132 comments

FatalGamer1@reddit

It’s not a question of should you buy the 5090 or not based on opinions. It’s very simple, 5090 is the best GPU and if you can afford it without struggling for money matter purchase, then you go ahead and buy it and enjoy. I do have to say though that the number of people who have hassle and trouble free gaming on PC is probably minimal. That’s why consoles are better for casual gamers, because consoles are the ones that’s hassle free. I built my 5070 Ti and 7800X3D (Now I have a 9950X3D) almost a year ago and I can’t say it was hassle free. I’ve had Nvidia recording problems and boot problems at the beginning, but once I fixed all the problems, I’ve not had any problems for the last 8 months.

I currently have the Thermalright Phantom Spirit air cooler for the 7800 X3D and it’s great, so I’m going test the 9950 X3D with it and see how it goes and if the temperatures are too high, I’ll get an AIO.

Also rendering and will start streaking as some point as well. I also want to get rid of the big CPU bottleneck I’m currently getting with the 7800X3D in 1080p gaming. I know it sounds weird but I do faking videos for YouTube showcasingPC performance in all resolutions.

I do lots of rendering as well. I do YouTube gaming videos showcasing how the PC performs in lots of difference graphics settings and in all resolutions. There’s a significant amount of CPU bottleneck in 1080p, so I could do with getting rid of that CPU bottleneck and much faster rendering times. It will also be a lot more future proof and ready for when I upgrade the GPU.

Can someone help me understand the obsession with football?

Posted by DueLead666@reddit | AskABrit | View on Reddit | 1064 comments

FatalGamer1@reddit

It’s a very simple explanation for me. I’m almost 45 and I’ve been a football fan since I was 5 years old. You might be obsessed with other things like reality shows and other hobbies and your partners biggest hobby is football whether that’s watching or playing or both. I get the feeling you’re having second thoughts about being with your partner because of his obsession with football. I’ve been with my partner for 5 years now and when we first started dating and learning about each other, I made it very clear that there are 3 things of she has a problem with it will not work. My son, football and gaming. My son naturally comes first but I made it clear as much as football and gaming is a big part of my life, it would never come before. If we have plans or want to plan things I’d never think about gaming however, if we’re making plans, she understands and respects my passion for football and one of the first things she asks is, do you have football to watch on this date? I don’t watch all football but I never miss a game of the team I support. It’s a matter of respecting people’s pleasures and hobbies. You must have known your partners passion for football when you started to get to know him.

Tradeoffs between CPU and GPU

Posted by Delicious-Compote610@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 11 comments

FatalGamer1@reddit

The main thing you need to understand with CPU and GPU is bottleneck. With your combinations you’ll get a GPU bottleneck at 4K with the 5060 Ti and CPU bottleneck with the 5070 at 1080p. It all depends on what resolution you’re aiming to play. 5070 is a solid 1440p GPU with some light 4K and the 5060 Ti is a solid 1080p GPU with some light 1440p.

Does upgradibg my gpu make sense on this setup?

Posted by Alternative-Sail505@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 10 comments

FatalGamer1@reddit

Ideally best to upgrade the CPU and GPU. Think of it like a car. All four tyres are pretty worn but one or maybe 2 tyres are more worn than the rest, so if you jus replace the more worn tyres, you’ll have two new tyres and two worn tyres and that will cause some instability.

You had a bad experience with one fair enough. Some of my mates got their builds from PC Specialist l and Scan and they couldn’t recommend the enough. I originally bought my pre build from AWD-IT early last year and I can’t complain and then I sold it before I built my own and the buyer is happy. It’s like any company mate, some people will love them and some will hate them.

FatalGamer1@reddit

So you have a max budget of up to £7000 and you’re only aiming at max 1440p. If you can spend £7000 to spend on a PC build, you should aim for best of everything. RTX 5090, 9950X3D, X870 motherboard, 32GB CL30 6000 RAM. Otherwise £2500 would be enough for RTX 5070 Ti and 9800X3D build and you can still game at max 1440p.

What would be your very first upgrade on this 1440p build?

FatalGamer1@reddit

That’s a very solid build but if I had to change something, I’d get the 5070 Ti and then you’ll have build that will play games comfortably in 4K as well. I’ve got the 7800X3D, 5070 Ti, 32GB (2X16GB) CL30 6000 RAM, 2TB SSD, 850W PSU, Thermalright Phantom Spirit dual tower CPU Cooler, NZXT H3 Flow Case with 2 X 140mm front intake fans, 2 X 120mm top exhaust fans and 1 X 120mm rear exhaust fan.

9070 XT 16 GB, is it good?

Posted by Ren654@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 45 comments

FatalGamer1@reddit

9070 XT and 5070 Ti trade blows in performance, so the 9070 XT is a better value since it’s cheaper. Although FSR has closed the gap with DLSS in upscaling, DLSS is still superior but how superior is up to each individual to see that. I personally prefer Nvidia and I have the 5070 Ti. I also prefer Nvidia for its better codecs as I do recording. If you’re not bothered about the difference in upscaling and if you’re not going to be streaming or recording, get the 9070 XT.

I’d say for 1080p gaming a good budget in this current price mess is $800-$1000 and that’s probably just to try to hit 60 fps in AAA games.

No, definitely way too low budget to build anything that will play modern games even in 1080p low settings. My advice is be patient, save up more money and then go for build a PC.

Posted by AdamCaveRoberts@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 9 comments

You don’t need to be experienced in PC building. Scalpers are out there for a lot of products. The only option you have to beat scalpers is, pre order as soon as a product is up for sale.

Do people actually earn £50-60k, or are they outliers?

Posted by Succinate_dehydrogen@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 3571 comments

FatalGamer1@reddit

50-60K isn’t crazy high salary. Average UK is 40K and London is 50K. If in your field a manager get mid 30K’s then you’re definitely in the wrong job. I’ve never been to university and I do t have any degree and all I can say is I would t work for anything less than 40K as a normal employee let alone a manager.

FPS or screen resolution?

Posted by Character-Rub-5423@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 12 comments

FatalGamer1@reddit

For me both are important. I’d never play in low 1080p settings to get higher fps, because the game will look so bad it will actually damage my eyes lol I’d take 200 fps in 1440p and 4K over a million fps in 1080p.

Worth to upgrade from a 5800X3D to a 7800X3D?

Posted by Lesbionage@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 58 comments

FatalGamer1@reddit

If you have the money then yeah it’s definitely worth it but don’t forget that you’ll need the 7800X3D and an AM5 motherboard and DDR5 RAM. I don’t know wha games you play but currently with your 5800X3D and 5080 you’re getting over 20% CPU bottleneck in 1440p and almost 40% CPU bottleneck in 1080p. If you play in 4K it’s fine.

Any Suggestions/Changes for this PC based on the £1.85k budget?

Posted by Js__05@reddit | buildapc | View on Reddit | 4 comments

FatalGamer1@reddit

That is way too much money just for 1080p. You can easily build a PC for around £1000 for 1080p. My PC is 7800X3D and 5070 Ti. In 1080p you’ll get over 20% CPU bottleneck in 1080p. Unless you’re planning on gaming in 1440p and 4K, I’d go for a 5060 Ti 16GB or 9060 XT 16GB. If you still want the 7800X3D you don’t need an AIO. I use the Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 dual tower air cooler with my 7800X3D and I’m getting the same temperatures as the AIO I used to use. Max 65C in gaming and max 75C in rendering.

FatalGamer1@reddit

That’s not what I said. My point is, even now currently some AAA titles use most of the VRAM, so no point in getting 12GB and beat to get at least 16GB. Yeah people who have 3060 and 4060 plays in 1080p low settings, which is pointless in my opinion when games in 2026 are designed with great graphics. Some people are happy with 1080p and I respect that.

FatalGamer1@reddit

Fair enough to buy in pieces but to be honest, what you’re going for won’t last long. If you’re going to buy in pieces, I’d say go for AM5 if you can. AM4 isn’t that future proof. The parts you’re going for also won’t be enough for gaming. 12GB VRAM GPU won’t last you long. Games are becoming a lot more demanding and soon the 12GB VRAM won’t be enough. Already a lot of the games are using much of the 16GB VRAM and in only a few years 16GB VRAM won’t be enough. You also don’t need 64GB RAM. 32GB is enough. If you absolutely have to go for AM4, maybe get a higher end CPU and at least 16GB VRAM GPU. That way it can last you longer.

worth buying?
