FPS or screen resolution?

What's better, 1000 fps with a 1920 x 1080 monitor or 100 fps with a 3840 x 2160 monitor? Or what's better, 210 fps with a 1920 x 1080 monitor or 90 fps with a 3840 x 2160 monitor? How much more important is screen resolution than fps? Is the difference between 1920 x 1080 and 3840 x 2160, or between 1920 x 1080 and 2560 x 1440 really that significant a drop in fps is worth it? Do you think it's better to have 1000 fps with 1920 x 1080, or does that resolution look so bad that you'd rather have significantly lower fps but a better screen resolution?

Just enable upscaling at higher resolutions, almost same fps.

I’ve used 720p to 4K and fps from 30fps to 280fps. The thing about resolution is once you’ve gone up, you tend to notice the lack of clarity at lower resolutions. Same thing can be said for fps. I find a good middle ground is 1440p and 144-200 fps

For me both are important. I’d never play in low 1080p settings to get higher fps, because the game will look so bad it will actually damage my eyes lol I’d take 200 fps in 1440p and 4K over a million fps in 1080p.

I'm not sure you understand the differences or have looked into this enough to even ask the right questions about it - it's entirely subjective and, typically, game dependent. There's not much benefit getting 4k 90FPS on CS or something, when it's fast pace and the kind of game that requires fast reaction times over just how pretty it is and vice versa, there's no point playing a story driven RPG with 300FPS on a 1080 monitor when you just lose out on so much of the immersion by not going higher resolution. It's literally dependent on the person and their use cases, but for most people the 1440p at like 120/144Hz is a sweet spot and isn't too expensive to achieve. High FPS on a 4k monitor requires a lot of juice.

It depends. For fast paced competitive games fps is most important, but IMO fps consistency is even more important. 1000fps avg with drops to 200fps will feel terrible in comparison to stable 300-400fps. For resulotion the screen size is also a factor, for example, on 32" screen 1080p will look terrible, 1440p will look ok and 4k will be crisp.

2k is best of both worlds. I always heard 2K was the goat for gaming and when I upgraded my machine a month or two after I upgraded the monitors. Yeah getting crazy fps on 1080p was cool but as soon as I went to the 2K OLED it was really a game changer. Liked the upgrade so much I upgraded my monitors at work to 4K. 4K is super crisp no doubt for text and productivity but I prefer the higher FPS of 2K over the 4K for gaming.

As with all things, it depends. Ideally, I want 4K at 1000 fps, but that is not possible with current technology. eSport games would favour the high fps at low resolution. RPGs with rich graphics and a slow pace would favour the high resolution but low fps. For those who play both types of games, 1440p at 240fsp is the current compromise.

My bare minimum is 60-75 fps. Preferably 75-90. In any game. Even single player graphically demanding games.

If I could get 100 fps on a 4k monitor with everything maxed, I wouldn't care if I could get 1million fps on 1080p. It really depends what you're using it for.

The answer is subjective, not objective. Have you looked any any benchmarks? Generally speaking, they will all include multiple resolutions.
