Ours was an anti-war protestor who got his master in History. He was also a dead ringer for Donald Sutherland in Animal House, something he was constantly ribbed about by every class he taught 🤣.

Vietnam/Watergate, and the Iranian Hostage Crisis/Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. Also, prior to taking a deeper look into World and American history, all students had to take 4 quarters of Political Science (2 Freshman year, covering the American political system, and 2 Sophomore year, covering Soviet/Communist systems).

Came here to mention this specific movie as it freaked me TF out as a 7 year old. Starred Dirk Benedict (Starbucks in the OG Battlestar Galactica and later The A-Team).

Where Did You Find Music?

Album88 (WRAS 88.5) - GSU’s college radio station and easily the best place in Atlanta to hear a wide variety of music that wasn’t on mainstream radio. Attending UGA (whilst REM was still a regional band - Lotta indie/alt bands and artists there.

What home remedies do you remember from childhood?

Posted by ascaffo@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 986 comments

CynfullyDelicious@reddit

Weirdest one I remember was my dadputting crushed tobacco leaves in bee stings. When I was 3, I was stung on my thumb at the boardwalk in Ormond Beach by a yellow jacket. The thing hurt like a bitch, so daddy went and bought a pouch of chew and tried to warp it around my thumb. I remember having a major fit because my 3 year-old brain thought he was trying to put another bee on it 😂.

Ours would put washcloths (later on finer coffee filters) soaked in near-boiling water into cups and have us put them up to our ears - worked like magic to relieve pressure and pain.

Using AI to track medical things in a project. (And cool stuff too, I'm not old dammit)

Posted by BorgAdjacent@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 13 comments

CynfullyDelicious@reddit

I don’t need some AI algorithm to think for me and decide what I should think, want, or need. AI is incapable of understanding any sort of nuance or engage in critical thinking. It draws its supposed “knowledge” from the Internet, which is rife with inaccuracies, along with deliberate disinformation and cannot distinguish either from actual facts. It bases its facts off of what’s considered popular and/or trending rather than what’s credible.

AI cannot even get YouTube recommendations to work to make the user’s experience enjoyable or engaging - why in blue fuck would anyone put *any* credence or trust in it where anything medical is concerned? Fuck AI to the ends of the universe and back.

The Ovions - and insect-like species that ran a casino on another remote rock. They used it to abduct humans to be placed in “cells” with and ovion larva for it to feast on while developing. Don’t get me started on the singers who had two mouths and two sets of eyes…..
