Me? Yep. Stuck on Drakkar Noir and Eternity still! No shame in sight! 🄳

Here's a fun little story about cologne. Highschool Valentine's Day dance, 1994. A young SerHermann heads out in his finest double denim outfit and doused in Gravity. He meets up with a classmate, Wendy (RIP, you were an awesome weirdo). Wendy: What's that smell? SerHermann: it's called Gravity. Do you feel an inexplicable, yet irresistible attraction toward me? Wendy: hey you know what, you should go talk to her (points to a random girl on the other side of the hall) The other girl and I will be married 25 years this winter. She hated the cologne and told me to stop wearing it but I recently learned that she kept the bottle.

There is something so damn perverse yet utterly charming about this story.

Maybe this will help. If you ever hooked up with someone at a high school dance, you know that there's that one song where it clicks. Where it goes from awkward dancing in the gym to "we might make out tonight and acknowledge each other in the hall next week" That song: Meatloaf: I Would do Anything for Love (but I won't do that)

GmaDoo2@reddit

As a 55 yo woman, the mere whiff of Polo reminds me of make-out sessions like nothing else does. I will smell it in a crowd and seek out who wears it. That being said, I dislike cologne in general because both men and women simply use too much of it. You want a subtle scent that someone may notice when you walk by or during a close conversation, not something that smacks people in the face from across the room. With cologne less is definitely morešŸ‘šŸ»

What? You mean that heavenly scent of Marlboro Lights and Heineken? Seriously though, there was some men’s fragrance I sported from high school through early college. Once I got older, I think I found a sample and was immediately embarrassed that I ever wore it. My scent now is the Citrus Verbena Eau de Toilette from L’Occitane. No. I used to wear EstĆ©e Lauder Cinnabar because a sales rep at the job I worked in my mid-20s would offer the staff a bottle of any choice of scent they wanted for the holidays. Kept wearing it for years as I liked it, and many women, girlfriends, and randoms over the years would tell me I smelled good, so I thought why mess with a good thing. Once I started dating the women I married, she didn't like it, and would buy me other colognes. Never got a compliment after that. 5 years ago, got divorced, decided to go buy a bottle of Polo green. Bit of a mix of old and new. I will buy a modern fragrance if I find it particularly appealing, but the bulk of my rotation leans heavily retro.

May have some Obsession lying around

As a woman I have to say Obsession is the best smelling cologne ever! Almost every man can wear it and smell good! (I say that because, people's body chemistry is different, and what cologne/perfume smells good on one person, might not smell good on another. ā¬…ļø Things Women know. lol)Ā

I was a Polo kid in high school. I hope no one gives my kid the idea to buy me cologne for Father’s Day - one bottle gifted to me in the next ten to twenty years would last me until death.

After soap and deodorant, cologne was just more than necessary.

Lucky Tiger Bay Rum is all I have ever worn. I love the barbershop smell. I also use a 1952 Gillette Fat Boy for shaving

There are cologne wearers and non, I have found. People who start can't stop. Maybe I stink, but I have never worn cologne. Dad had some Hi-Karate on the shelf in the bathroom when I was a kid. Pretty sure it was a gift and he didn't wear it.

Hell no. Can’t stand any of it now. Gives me a headache. Of course, we have that one friends that bathes in it and we all clamor to sit away from him at happy hour because if it. Lol

Funny I didn’t wear much cologne growing up but as an adult I’ve used John Varvatos Vintage for like the past 15 years! Smells like leather and cigars! Love it!

Wore Tuxedo by Ralph Lauren at 13, followed by White Linen by EstĆ©e Lauder. Then I discovered Chanel No.19 when I was 18 and haven’t looked back since - just wish it still had 1985 prices 😳 šŸ˜‘.
