What were the last cassette tapes you bought new back in the day?

I was just trying to remember what my last NEW music tapes were. I know I bought Bon Jovi's Keep the Faith on cassette. Also, Poison's Swallow This Live.
Plus a couple of cassingles:
- "All She Wrote" b/w "Love of a Lifetime" by Firehouse
- "Unforgiven" b/w "Stone Cold Crazy" by Metallica
These would likely have all been in my senior year, 1991-92.
How about you?

My first cassette was my last cassette. Bryan Adams - Everything I Do cassingle

I think the last one was Pink Floyd Delicate sound of thunder double cassette. Which is kinda annoying because I then had to go out a buy it in CD a little while later.
Nope tell a lie. That was the last one I bought out of choice.
The actual last one was bought because we took a road trip with my friend and my brother in 89 and my brother had different music taste to us and we argued about what music to put on so in the end we went to a store and the only thing we all agreed we could stand to listen to was Phil Collins so that was the last tape I bought.

I think the last time I bought a cassette was when Blockbuster Music was going out of business and I picked up the Orgazmo soundtrack for a few dollars.

Might have been Whip-Smart by Liz Phair in fall '94

Great album!

Bands are still selling cassettes, I bought one maybe 2 years ago at a show. band from the bay area called Vale.
Comedywriter1@reddit
Yes. I noticed Lana Del Rey was selling some on her website. I think it’s a bit of a novelty, plus artists make more money off physical media than downloads.
Comedywriter1@reddit
I actually tried to get the Starfleet album with Brian May and Edward Van Halen on cassette (Brian reissued it after Ed died), but it sold out pretty quickly.
TraductorPerdido@reddit
I think mine was Pocket Full of Kryptonite by the Spin Doctors because they were out of the CD at the mall store. My only regret was not getting as much cash back for it when I resold a few years later.

Didn't buy this, but scored this gem as a free giveaway while buying LPs (circa 1999)

I think mine were Depeche Mode. I didn’t get into them until the later 80s and quickly became obsessed. I bought anything of theirs I could, all medias. At one point I had over 100 of their CDs- mostly imports and B-sides.

1996 - Misfits - Earth AD. I had Danzig 1-4 . Never listened to The Misfits, never knew Danzig had a band(actually 2, Samhain was after The Misfits) until someone told me, get this tape.
OrigamiMonkey@reddit
Too bad they didn't tell you 'Wall Among Us'. It's a much better album. I did the same Danzig to Mistfits reverse pipeline. But in like 93. I knew that Metallica had covered a couple of their songs on Garage Days, but didn't know Danzig was the singer. Weird how slow information got around before the Internet.
marshallkrich@reddit
While I love Walk Anong Us, Earth AD is still more my speed because I prefer Samhain over The Misfits
Noetic_Hat_Trick@reddit (OP)
Still have not gotten around to checking them out. I know Danzig, of course.
marshallkrich@reddit
I love the Misfits, they're a fun horror punk band. Earth AD sound is more what Glenn's next group Samhain would sound like. Mostly because a few of the tracks were meant to be on the first Samhain album Initium.
If you have Spotify, they have the Misfits catalog for the most part. As for Samhain, if you don't own the physical copies, it streams nowhere .

Thanks! Looks like "Collection" would be a good place to begin.
marshallkrich@reddit
Yeah, it is. There's a long history with The Misfits and Danzig was the writer and creator of EVERYTHING. Jerry Only and his brother Doyle were hired hands to say it nicely and managed to get the Misfits name in 1996 since Glenn wasn't using it. American Pyscho and later are a completely different band.
Azipcoder@reddit
It was Rage Against the Machine. That first album was the last thing in my Sony Walkman before I got the DiscMan.
Hochmann@reddit
It think it might have been Dr. Feelgood by Mötley Crüe, Hot in the Shade by Kiss, Unmasked by Kiss, and some others back in November of 1989. After that - again, of I’m not mistaken - I went straight to CDs in 1990.

No clue

Just found a pristine copy of “Kill’em All” at mom in laws basement…they only listened to country, so it is currently in my 02 Tahoe tape player…what a score!!

Sweet!
bravehamster@reddit
Weird Al - Off the Deep End
Noetic_Hat_Trick@reddit (OP)
I know I had Even Worse on tape.
RetiredPoPo10-8@reddit
Last album i bought on cassette was probably Motley Crue's Theater of Pain. Shortly after that, I bought my first CD player to hook up to my boom box and the first CD was obviously Brothers in Arms.
Noetic_Hat_Trick@reddit (OP)
I think my first CD was Lead Me On by Amy Grant.
egret_society@reddit
Last new cassette I bought was KMFDM Symbols in 97 or 98. I had switched to cd already but my car still had a tape deck and I needed something to listen to.
erilaz7@reddit
Limited, tour-only, autographed cassette reissue of Shonen Knife's Minna Tanoshiku, which I bought at their show last October. Until last year, this album had never been officially reissued in any format since 1982.
Last new cassette of actual new music? Probably Street Venom by Death Valley Girls, purchased at one of their shows in 2014.
Exotic-Travel-270@reddit
I don’t really remember but it might have been Dr Feelgood 🤘
Noetic_Hat_Trick@reddit (OP)
It'll make you feel alright!
CynfullyDelicious@reddit
Had to be either Pretty Hate Machine, Facelift, or Nevermind.
Noetic_Hat_Trick@reddit (OP)
I grew up on mainstream rock and country. The first time I heard PHM, it blew my mind. It felt like the most radical music ever.
gbr1976@reddit
Pretty sure it was this one. Got the CD as well, but my car only had a cassette player at the time, so...
Noetic_Hat_Trick@reddit (OP)
Nice! A late one.
ThickWest4658@reddit
It was probably something Prince around '92 when I got my first discman.
RickyDontLoseThat@reddit
Matt Berry's The Blue Elephant on cassette tape in 2022 IIRC.
Noetic_Hat_Trick@reddit (OP)
Love me some Matt Berry!
Absotivly_Posolutly@reddit
Hard to say… If I had to guess, the last cassette I remember buying was GnR Appetite for Destruction around 1987-88 because I didn’t have a CD player in my car yet
Noetic_Hat_Trick@reddit (OP)
Excellent choice!
