Kia sales are up to record high, thanks to new models

My 22 Seltos has 130k miles and has never had a problem. I got the 1.6T with DCT so 2.0 drivers or people who don't know how to drive dry DCTs may rightfully disagree with my opinion of them.

Why is Hyundais rep so bad?

My 22 Seltos just turned 130k miles and I've had no problems so far. I am glad I got the turbo DCT model after reading so many 2.0 golf cart transmission horror stories. Most of the problems with the DCTs come from non drivers who can't be bothered to learn the nuances of DCTs and dealerships not informing customers about them.

Do you stop to help someone with a flat tire?

Posted by DeiaMatias@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 695 comments

Br0boc0p@reddit

Yes but that's because I always have a hydraulic jack and an impact in my car for my own use so I can get them on the road a lot faster than their bottle jack and tire tool. I've only personally had one flat in the 8 or so years since I started carrying those items but I had my tire swapped and was on my way so fast that it's worth carrying just in case.

The 4.6 will probably be ok although I've had 2 of them that had valve guides begin to fail and smoked around 260k miles so watch oil consumption or go ahead and replace them first. I imagine it will eat that transmission for lunch, especially on the 2-3 upshift. TL;DR: fuck yeah.

I took a 92 Accord from 218k to 285k and it had antifreeze in the oil that whole time. I added oil when the lifters would start tapping over the road noise. When it broke down I sold it to a dude who put a new timing chain tensioner on it and followed my maintenance routine for another 3 months before he hit a deer.

Posted by dungsucker@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 169 comments

Br0boc0p@reddit

I have a 23 Seltos with 119k miles on it. So far it has been great. Most of the complaints I've seen on it are from the 2.0 CVT or non drivers who don't bother to learn how to operate a DCT which, to be fair is kind of Kia's fault for not having their sales people explain or understand how they work. So its a little column A little column B. They probably won't be 92 Accords for a while but there are things they do right.

You're absolutely right and I think people arguing with you are assuming you're happy about it or defending the quality of the car or the CEO. Saying its the obvious choice is not the same as defending it or the circumstances surrounding it.

4.6 powered Fords as long as the transmission doesn't have that little 2-3 shift problem that killed a few Thunderbirds. 1989-1994 Honda Civics and Accords, most Toyotas until 2016 or so.

Posted by AnyBread7359@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 426 comments

Br0boc0p@reddit

This is accurate. It can break down to sub model too. I have a 22 Kia Seltos SX with 120k miles on it that has had no problems. The EX with the 2.0 and the golf cart transmission have had so many problems I'm surprised Kia didn't discontinue the line entirely.

Me think u guys talk good. Like when I 83 f150 wit exhaust dat broke and came in through rust hole in cab corners. Seriously, I had to drive it with the windows at least cracked all the time or the exhaust broken off under the cab would flow up through the rust holes in the cab corners. Ah abject poverty, how I do not miss ye. I still love me a rusty beat up work truck though.

1989 Sbarro Osmos — Supercar with butterfly doors and exposed exhaust pipes is wild. There’s more. It features hubless wheels to improve the braking system's efficiency and cut friction and overall weight. They are driven by a 350hp V12. Sadly, complexity and cost led to rejection of the innovation.

Do you change your own Spark Plugs?

Posted by derpmcturd@reddit | askcarguys | View on Reddit | 238 comments

Br0boc0p@reddit

Yes. However as a long time old car mechanic I learned the hard way some new cars are super picky about what spark plugs you put in them. It kind of caught me by surprise. Parts store gave me Bosch plugs their system matched to my GF's Pilot, and it fell on its face hard about a half hour into the next drive.

An hour each way. It sucks but it's the best income to cost of living balance I can get. I live an hour east of KC in a 3 bedroom house with a full basement and a 1 car garage we paid 90k for. My area doesn't have much over 50k a year unless its a brutal salary grind or something that requires a degree.
