Where's the best charity shops and car boot sales?

They vary so much town to town. Donations also rotate all the time. I charity shop in my area all the time and sometimes it’s shite, sometimes I find some gems. You just gotta pick a town and go there.

People who are really good at interviews, what's your secret sauce?

Nothing wrong with having a rough idea for the common scenarios that are asked about, but having structured answers comes off as rehearsed and insincere. There’s a good middle ground :)

Many of the best companies to work at will be hiring you as a person, and not your ability to regurgitate what they want to hear. If you rehearse rehearse rehearse, they will be able to tell if you sound robotic during the interview. You need to be able to feel the room, what is the vibe, greet them when you go in to settle the tension. A quick “busy day so far?” goes a long way. Personally I never practice for interviews. If they want me they want me for how I am. If I portray myself as somebody I’m not in the interview, they’ll be disappointed when I start and I’m not that person. My other tip is to ask questions at the end. What is the work culture like? How big is the team? Is the atmosphere supportive? What kind of projects would I be working on? It shows you’re invested not only in the salary but in the culture of the company.

Aside from paying off your mortgage what would you do with £70,000?

lovemycat02@reddit

Yeah I understand there are better ways to do it, but honestly for me personally I’d much rather get it over and done with so I don’t have to deal with the admin. I’m not penalised for overpayments either so don’t have to worry about losing money that way.

I couldn’t quite pay off my mortgage with this but I’d only have £10k left so that’s what I’d do realistically. If I wasn’t allowed to? I’d wrap my car pink and have a new sound system installed in it, then I’d renovate some of my house, probably get new windows and a new front door. I’d also fuck off on holiday for a week at a time a few times z

Do people get annoyed with having to listen to the same songs on radio in work? Over and over...all day

It’s fucking awful. Worked at a job for 2 months earlier this year where they had radio 1 on every day. I was so so happy to hand in my notice. I had to listen to that shitty remix of just the way you are by milky, and Dracula featuring Jenny like 5 times a day each.

How do I become a bricklayer in the UK as an 23yr old?

Posted by Curious_Path_418@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 26 comments

lovemycat02@reddit

I know, but it at least reduces the burden on employers significantly for 1 year. The college courses for bricklaying are only 1-2 years so salary really shouldn’t be a huge barrier.

If you want the ‘experience’ of going out, you pay for it. You don’t just pay for the ingredients but the pay for the chef, waitress, admin staff, electric and gas bills, insurance etc etc. That’s the experience of going out. It’s why I don’t go out anymore lol. Why pay more when I can cook it better myself and eat in the comfort of my own home.

On the side of your finger? Should be the squishy part, directly opposite your fingernail (if that makes sense). You have to properly press the lancet down so that it deploys properly, no pussyfooting around. Then ‘milk’ your finger. Best way I can describe it.

When are you supposed to have a bonfire?

lovemycat02@reddit

I think a small, contained BBQ-type fire is socially acceptable, but when I hear ‘bonfire’ I think of someone with a pile of wood etc just having a big fire because they can’t be arsed to go to the tip. Kinda thing you’d see in an American trailer park or on a farmer’s field.

There is always something to do. Have a look into outdoor activities (hiking, climbing, wild swimming, running), sports clubs (even if you’re not interested in that particular sport I guarantee you will still have fun and meet people), or indoor clubs such as reading, crafting, board games/RPG etc.

There isn’t a ‘right time’. It’s whenever you feel ready. When my dad died I went home at lunch time on the Wednesday (when I found out) and was back in on Monday the next week. I needed the distraction.

As someone who chose to have my tubes tied when I was 20, I have been asked before “well who will look after you when you’re old”. I agree it’s ridiculous. I’ll not be looking after my mother when she’s old. There are homes for that and I have a life.
