Man, 60 is a hard number to accept

casewood123@reddit

I turned 60 last August and I find myself worrying about my retirement, my health, and what I can leave behind for my kids. One regret was not listening to parents when they kept telling me to start saving for retirement when I was young.

When I was in high school the drinking age was 18. Half my graduating class (1983) could legally drink. Keg parties all the time. Half the time put on by the parents.

casewood123@reddit

My son did. I gave him surprise Green Day tickets for Christmas. Now he’s my concert buddy. Seen the Cure, Nick Cave, Smashing Pumpkins, and Jerry Harrison & Adrian Belew doing Remain in Light. I’m 60 and he’s 23 and we have the same taste in music.

Chef Boy-r-Dee and Hamburger Helper. We also had these boil a bag meats with gravy. Basically food that I could cook as a kid because my parents were never home.

I was born in 1965. So yes, I’m Gen X. The cigarettes were for my mom, who I would give me a dollar for her cigarettes, and I got to keep the change for gas for my dirt bike. I’ll take my apology now.

Keg parties in the woods and weed with seeds. Occasionally a batch of blotter acid or mescaline would make the rounds. Cocaine was way too expensive for a high school kid.

Posted by RikkiLostMyNumber@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 197 comments

casewood123@reddit

I went twenty years without any type of home entertainment system. Now I have a vintage 1976 Technics receiver, 1981 tower speakers, a 1983 Technics equalizer, and a Fluance turntable. No digital music whatsoever. Just vinyl.
