Must...be...good...to see my fat ass back again! Hearing that in a Disney movie blew my mind so bad, I had to rewind to make sure I wasn't hearing things.

Any daily trivia fans out there? I developed a new game called Loaded Questions and wanted to share. Today's question is a little easy, but I'll bring more challenging material soon haha

I have a cousin who owned a split-level on Long Island, and my fiancee's aunt and cousin have a similar one in Jersey. We also have a few in VA and I'd love to buy one...I always loved the quirky upstairs/downstairs setup for entertaining.

The Sensationalism of YouTube

I started a channel where I talk photography and about my journey. It’s tougher than it looks, and as a small business owner I hate that I have to do such much extra marketing. It feels like a FT on top of my FT photography job. Between that and hitting the right keywords and supposedly the right time to post, and so many other damn things, I’ve learned to just enjoy what I do and push myself harder there. And it’s paying dividends. Making myself more accessible has brought more work my way, and I don’t have to feel like I’m selling my soul to make slightly disingenuous marketing content.

That makes sense. I remember reading somewhere that modern shows love the shakycam look inspired by MTV Cribs. That and the overuse of "swoosh" sound effects are two of my pet peeves because editors don't know what "less is more" means. I worked in TV and film production 15-20 years ago and I'll always believe minimal is better than chasing trends. A business partner and I had several debates over sparkly TikTok effects and how I think it's a gimmick that adds absolutely nothing to a video.

The constant zoom ins on mockumentary sitcoms makes me dizzy at times. I don’t mind a laugh track, but there’s shows where the “audience” is losing its shit like it’s Fresh Prince or Seinfeld. Nope. Just Two Broke Girls.

I’ve always been a big game show fan, so I’m loving the fact that that particular genre’s been booming in recent years. But I miss the cheesy game shows with the Wink Martindale types, with their perfect hair and blinding white teeth. There’s still some good game shows left (Jeopardy! is still king), but so many of them are overproduced and it’s annoying at times.

My mom bought a 2015 Kia Soul brand new. When she found out there was an AUX jack instead of the CD player, she almost gave it back. IIRC that was one of the first cars not to have a CD player.

I wonder how much of it is a) so many of us worked in food service and don't want to become the customers we hate, and b) so many of our parents took an "eat it or don't" approach (I know some of us had more compassionate parents so don't be that person)? Granted, pointing out your food was made wrong =/= difficult. Just spitballing.

My mom just turned 67 and has had several medical issues over the years including going into septic shock two months ago. She always pulls through stronger than ever and it wouldn't surprise me if she somehow defied all odds and made it to 100. She's a tough cookie in many ways, but she'll give the shirt off her back while cussing you out ha... Never had a relationship with my father, but I somehow have close friends who worked with him (long story). I've thought about reaching out to him, but from what I understand one of his children from one of his ex-wives went no contact a while ago. He also impregnated another woman the same time as my mom, so I have a feeling he wouldn't be the most receptive to having a conversation 44 years later. And I'm perfectly okay with that. I'm not scared of the rejection or nothing, but I also don't want a "How come he don't want me man?" Fresh Prince scenario. I've done very well for myself and don't need the closure that bad.

I remember he did a lotta celebrity-based game shows like Hollywood Squares, and he was always genuinely happy for the contestants when they won. Say what you will about his energy, but a celeb taking time out their day to help people win potentially life-changing amounts of money is always pretty wholesome IMO.

>Anyone else getting to that age where they look back and miss the simpler days? Earlier today I saw a video of life c. fall 2000 which included trips to Blockbuster and the movie theater, and it made me nostalgic for such a relatively simpler time. If nothing else, I'd have a talk with 17-year-old me and tell him what to do (go to community college; save up $1,000 to invest in Apple; learn photography much earlier) and what not to do (think with the head *above* your shoulders) in life.

I said elsewhere in the thread that I only seem to drive stick once every few years, and it's really just to remind myself. I wanna think it's like riding a bike and yet I still find myself watching Youtube videos to remember the basics. One of these days I'll splurge and buy a manual beater just for kicks. To me the hardest part is getting back in an automatic and stopping my left foot from looking for a clutch.

I know it's like getting back on a bike, but I seem to only drive a stick shift once every few years and therefore my brain tells me that I forgot the basics. The last time was when I rented a Slingshot in June 2023 so I'm overdue. One of these days I'll buy an old Prelude or something that I can drive semi-regularly. But I dunno if we have the space right now. (looks up Slingshot rentals)

When I was in college, my goal was to move to LA and become a filmmaker or TV producer. Ended up working at a local news station, from there a marketing agency, and now I’m a photographer. I also do a little AV for the local university. I’ve dabbled in short films and indie projects in my hometown, even co-created a local drama series about 15 years ago. It’s not the Hollywood career I envisioned, but I have no regrets. Don’t think I would’ve been able to create that show from back in the day had I gone to Hollywood. Never mind all the struggles the industry is facing today. I still have some other projects I’d like to get off the ground eventually.

Sometime in the mid-90s she started pandering more and more to the suburban housewives, and it didn’t feel as sensational. I remember blurting out that I couldn’t stand Oprah in 8th grade, and my classmates thought I’d lost my mind.

Someone said we were just overstimulated and the teacher put us in "gifted" programs because they didn't know what to do with us. I think about that from time to time. As a former kid who was "too smart to make dumb mistakes", I think being gifted did nothing but give me anxiety about making a mistake. I also think I was such a slacker in high school because I just didn't care about reading The Scarlet Letter or whatever, and felt (at the time) I'm never gonna use any of this in life.
