Did you get to choose your clothing for senior photos or did you get to wear the totally normal feather boa to show who you were back then?

Thanks, Bryn-Alan Photography! IYKYK
Would love to see your senior pics!

Didn't take sr. photos. Changed schools mid summer. School I left didn't take them yet, and school I moved to, already took them.
Holmes221bBSt@reddit
We had a black satin wrap.
NightWriter500@reddit
I’m not even sure I understand this, but there’s been multiple comments about it. Underneath the “wrap,” you’re just wearing your normal clothes? Was this supposed to just block any individuality or something?
Penelopeslueth@reddit
I graduated in 2000, so the school opted for “fancy” glamour shots for us.
I also had a few done with my pet duck. 🤷♀️
TALieutenant@reddit
We got to choose our own.
...or if you're like me, YOUR MOM chose.
greaterwhiterwookiee@reddit
I chose mine. It was a plain baseball Tee and shitty jeans. I was kind of a salty prick at 17/18 but my family was going through a really terrible split. I didn’t even take my guitar for pictures and i basically carried that with me everywhere i went including Disneyland. No joke.
But yeah my pictures weren’t flashy.
Fabulous-South-9551@reddit
Did you play wonderwall at Disneyland
greaterwhiterwookiee@reddit
lol no I actually played some jazz music with my hs choir. But I just kept the guitar out while we walked around
affectionateanarchy8@reddit
Ooh fancy, we had the classy black velvet v neck situation, it was like lookin at myself at 50
Spartan04@reddit
It was completely up to me, at my school seniors were largely on their own in that we had to pick the photographer, schedule the session, pay for it, and order prints. I believe there were certain requirements for the shot that was submitted to the yearbook but the rest were up to us. The local photography companies that did senior pictures all knew what the yearbook requirements were for each school and most would handle submitting it for you so that part was pretty easy.
Like most of the guys in my class the one that ended up in the yearbook is a headshot in a button down shirt and tie but I also had some more casual shots taken in different clothes.
Daphne-odora@reddit
You have good hair tho
Financial-Yak-4172@reddit
In my senior photo I'm wearing a Mariners T-shirt.
Sanchastayswoke@reddit
We chose our clothes (so cal 1995)
crazycatlady331@reddit
Girls had to wear a black drape.
proxminesincomplex@reddit
Yes, we had to wear the drape and guys had to wear the fake tux thing. Interestingly enough, my ex-husband who was an ‘85 baby but graduated in 2004 (three years after my 2001 graduation) was allowed to have those fancy photos with vehicles and trees and horses and shit. He only grew up about 30 miles away from me, so it wasn’t some regional thing.
I don’t know if it’s good or bad, but I don’t look all that much different now, just a lot more tired and less cherubic.
Jerkrollatex@reddit
We had a set like that then a second set where we could wear what we liked. Some outside some, inside with a backdrop. They even let us do a wardrobe change.
Ramen_Addict_@reddit
I live in the Midwest now and ask people about the back drape or the boa and they all act like I am crazy. I guess it is not a thing here? The black drape was for the yearbook and the boa was for fun. I think I got to have a turquoise boa though?
imaniluv1@reddit
Itchy curtain fabric for the win! I really liked my senior pics cause my mom let me cut my hair the way I wanted. I’d post, but they are all at my parents house.
ttw81@reddit
we took one set w/the black velvety drape thing & another set wearing a cap & gown.
Fickle_Wrangler_7439@reddit
Yep. They just wrapped us in itchy curtain fabric.
It was all very weird, thinking back on it.
Thereminz@reddit
I remember being tired and for some reason we had to use a studio that was like an hour away, I fell asleep in the car so in my picture I look sleepy af
happy_nekko@reddit
We wore whatever we wanted, and could do 2-3 outfits during the session. For a few photos, I wore my grandfather’s 1920s bowler hat that my parents said would look stupid & tried to talk me out of wearing. I still love the hat outfit photos & occasionally wear that hat - which is out on display in my home.
59apache01@reddit
The guys had to wear this false tux thing.
Thereminz@reddit
it was like a snuggie but in tux form
ArtsyRabb1t@reddit
Drape and all the boas
Capital-Meringue-164@reddit
Omg boas!! In Seattle class of 93, girls had black velvet with pearls, boys fake tux. Then we got to pick whatever we wanted, it was the 90s in Seattle so choker and grunge it was!
JettandTheo@reddit
The tie in the back dress or black tie suit
redclover83@reddit
I never took a formal senior portrait picture, the yearbook let us use whatever photo we wanted so I just used a regular snapshot my friend took that I liked
Living-Video-3670@reddit
I had to wear a bunch of crap I never wore outside of the photoshoot. I did get to wear my actual clothes for 1 picture. Still looks awful looking at it now. What a dork I was!
tokudama@reddit
Luckily I was in sports.
tokudama@reddit
Actually I think this was the one in the yearbook, I don't remember if those were the rules or what my mom forced me to do.
gottarespondtothis@reddit
Holy crap my mom had glamour shots done in the early 90s and it was an identical red boa/red background situation 😂
_ism_@reddit
fuckin dusty ass velvet drape and i didn't realize and felt really put on the spot and mad about not wearing the top i'd chosen much less given any thought to my bra being seen by half my class
bgva@reddit
For the guys, I think they gave us a tuxedo dickey and a black jacket to wear over it. Whatever it was, I know I still wore jeans.
kaest@reddit
I did the leather jacket and then I think regular clothes. The leather jacket pic is the only one left because my wife absconded with it. I'll see if I can get a photo of it.
AngelMuffin0923@reddit
omg you look so cute though! lol i feel like every generation has that one trend that looks so chaotic looking back but you totally rocked the boa ✨
Top-Elephant-2874@reddit
What I will say is I wore a totally normal feather boa to senior prom bc free will. 100% would do it again.
Fabulous-South-9551@reddit
I didn’t take senior pics because I absolutely did not want to wear the off the shoulder black drape and pearls that every senior has to wear. It just wasn’t who I was back then and I refused to do it. 2 of my other friends felt the same way. We were so excited to have our names together in the “not pictured” box at the end but some rando guy also didn’t do it so it kinda ruined it for us.
Aware_Policy_9174@reddit
I didn’t get senior pictures my school was so small. But I do remember boas being a thing for a while. I had a lavender one with beaded ends that was honestly gorgeous. But I didn’t get many opportunities to wear it.
Cephalopod_Dropbear@reddit
We got to choose. I looked so rad in my dressy flannel shirt!
dewihafta@reddit
Drape with fake pearls, but a few others in addition which were optional.
I ran out of ones with the leather jacket. All my guy friends liked that one in particular
My husband got one, and he kept it in his wallet until very recently, when the edges started to peel off.
MyDearDoctor@reddit
We got to choose our own clothing, but it had to be semiformal. Everyone got a black or dark grey background. I don't know what they did for the guys, but girls were posed holding an artificial rose.
ThePerfectSnare@reddit
I was told to dress up so I wore my best button-down shirt with flames on the sleeves and my favorite eyebrow ring. If I had to sum it up in one word, my senior picture was ~~Hot~~ Topic.
Miz_momo82@reddit
Ours were in our uniforms and we had a cap and gown pic even though we never wore caps and gowns. I think we had the option to take additional photos (more money) in other outfits
violetstrainj@reddit
Our photography studio had packages based on what you wanted to do. The standard yearbook photo was an outside shot (sitting on a lawn chair, leaning against a tree, etc.) so you had five poses you could do, and that package was free. The extra stuff (feather boa, cap-and-gown) were an extra sitting fee. I couldn’t afford any of the fancy stuff, and I was already pissed off because my crazy mother blamed me for getting her lost on the way to the studio when I had no idea where the place was and she wouldn’t stop to ask for directions, so I just did the standard shoot and went home.
CorgiMonsoon@reddit
For the yearbook photo, which was also used for any other official school things, we had a set photographer to go to, and a dress code of white dress shirt, tie, and navy blue blazer.
It was an all boys high school, so I remember only a small handful of people I knew who did an additional photo shoot for senior photos. Most just ordered other photos from the yearbook shoot
somenemophilist@reddit
Pretty sure we were able to choose what to wear. I remember wearing a sweater, and then switching back to a t-shirt since it was hot outside.
BoyznGirlznBabes@reddit
We had the black velvet drape for the "official" one and then they took black boa ones for "fun." I hated my boa one...it was like a very unglam Glamour Shot.
body_by_monsanto@reddit
My friend wore a t-shirt that had “I masturbate” printed on it. Not sure how it got past anyone, but she has a legendary grad picture!
PickledPixie83@reddit
One of my senior pictures is in the “dress” uniform of the summer camp I worked at (and volunteered at in the off season) and like…. It was a really big part of my life but maybe not what my parents were going for.
USAF_Retired2017@reddit
We had a black drape.
Weird_Squirrel_8382@reddit
My husband's school they all had to wear a greasy fake tuxedo thing, or a black scarf and pearls that look like an off the shoulder dress. My tiny alternative school decided against publishing a yearbook because of the price. My "senior pictures" are from my shotgun wedding later that year.
CherryCherry5@reddit
We had a bunch of pics offered in one package: one in the grad gown and cap with a fake diploma and optional bouquet of fake red roses, one wearing whatever you wanted, and a few with friends (up to 3 at once) wearing whatever you wanted.
Same-Manufacturer773@reddit
The boa! And the rose over the shoulder shot. Plus the black shall thing.
caramelcoldbrew@reddit
My signature piece was a hemp necklace. 😂
echochilde@reddit
I had a whole ass argument with my mom about that while we were in the studio. She wanted me to wear pearls and I firmly dug my heels in. We compromised and she let me wear my ball chain necklace.
DickBurns01@reddit
Had to have the same style as my older siblings for some reason
Top-Wolverine-8684@reddit
We got to choose our own. My kids all had to do cap/gown shots, and then we could pay for as many other outfits as we wanted.
Blackbird136@reddit
For the yearbook photo, it was a required black velvet (?) drape and a pearl necklace lol.
For the photos that we paid for to give out, I picked my own clothes.
DapperRockerGeek@reddit
Casual/Regular clothes pictures were taken, along with pictures with parts of a tuxedo that tied on and a type of strapless dress. For some reason, I came in wearing a white shirt, novelty necktie, and wool vest (that I still have,) and I wound up removing the vest and necktie when the pictures were being taken.
_WeSellBlankets_@reddit
We got to choose our photographer, the location, our clothing, the props, and when to do it. Obviously the photographer directed things and gave a lot of input, but we had our say.
1radgirl@reddit
Girls had a black velvet drape, and the boys wore a fake tuxedo thing.
instant_ramen_chef@reddit
Me and my 4 best buds all wore the same jacket and tie.
Primary-Strawberry-5@reddit
In my school all the seniors got their own pages in the yearbook (k-12 school with a total of 300 students, graduating class of 37)
Alarmed_Drop7162@reddit
Success boa
DefaultUser614@reddit
There was one required photo with a certain background for yearbook, not sure I even got a copy of it.
My first car was a 1973 black Pontiac Lemans that was nickel named the batmobile
