Is there any American sports car that rivals European sports cars Porsche?

>Raw track performance? No American car is on the level of the RS 911s (but the Corvette ZR1X and Mustang GTD are close) and no street-first American car is on the level of a GT3 or Turbo S (Corvette is close). https://youtu.be/yEKjBxlBQk4?si=DI0-D6WrUhvJPgNr This is a Hagerty video pitting the Corvette ZR1 and Mustang GTD against the GT3 RS. The cars are certainly on the same level for track performance. (It is also an entertaining watch regardless).

Average Price of Top 10 Best Selling Passenger Vehicles is $35,599

>Absolutely Correct.  An important distinction that nobody ever seems to understand.  >Cars aren't getting more expensive... The world is. I'm making an argument that the base price of the car speaks more to affordability than the finance rates at the time. Inflation adjustment is a different discussion. Although, I have reservations about the 'adjusted for inflation' argument because what people mean by this is that they compare vehicle price increases relative to CPI. However, CPI is not a measure of vehicle affordability. It measures the average price movement of a broad basket of goods, most of which are unrelated to the purchase mechanics of a vehicle. Comparing vehicle prices to unrelated CPI components like food does not indicate affordability, and CPI already includes vehicle prices, making those comparisons partially circular anyway.

Do you mean the killer of the affordability of cars? If so, the price of the vehicles is playing a larger role in that than financing. A 2017 Corolla LE was $19,830 but now costs $24,120 for an increase of nearly 22%.

A real car enthusiast thinks about buying a 911, a Mustang, a Corvette, a GT-R, an SC400, a 40-year-old Mercedes, and many more in the span of a day.

The 2026 Porsche 911 Carrera now starts at $137,850 before any options.

They are really pricing up market. I am in a similar position of feeling priced out of interest in the 911 despite greatly increasing my income. I just started questioning the value for the prices too much.

Honestly, a year old is not an appropriate age to be sitting in a car for the first time, even for just a photo shoot. My son was 3 months old by the time he sat in my C3 Corvette, my friend's 78 Camaro, and a Model A. You need to start them younger so they get hooked more easily.

I have a 2017 Infiniti with these issues and just assumed it was the brand and/or age of the vehicle. I go to unlock my door using the touch capability, but it locks it instead. I try again, and it locks. So, I use the key fob. I'm on a call, but the music is still playing. I also have to periodically delete my phone from the connection memory and add it back because it just refused to connect. I typically do that every few months. I guess I'm glad to know that upgrading my vehicle won't fix any of that. Haha I can scratch that off my list of excuses why I might sell this car and get another.

This is the exact setup I'm aiming for - an SUV she likes and eventually the CT4-V BW for me. >I also work from home and have no idea when I would actually drive it. I'm WFH as well, but when the weather is nice (or sometimes not so nice even), I still drive my C3 Corvette. If you find the car you love, you'll just drive it.

>Now that I have the means, I absolutely am not going to drop 30-40k on a nice example on any of these. This becomes the issue for me as well, and I assume others share that sentiment. Being able to afford the dream car and finding it reasonable to do so are different matters. The price is just no longer worth it in our eyes because either the value proposition isn't there or personal priorities outweigh the desire to stretch for the dream car.

What you're actually seeing in your example is the barbell of profitability. In one end, there are high-volume, low-margin products (GR86), but on the other end, there are low-volume, high-margin products (GT 911). Companies strategically place themselves, generally, around this concept.

Part of it is basic psychology, I believe. One thing that people like is consistency because it provides a mental shortcut that reduces the need to think critically about all decisions. So, my thought is that Porsche has strong marketing because the 911 has been a consistent brand since 1964, whereas other manufacturers in the exotic car market have produced various models throughout their lineup. Part of why I believe this is from following the Cadillac V cars in automotive journalism. When the CT4/5 V were first introduced, the journalists jeered at the fact that V no longer meant the top of the line and Blackwing took that mantle. They pretended it was extraneously difficult to follow this change. Why? Because it was inconsistent.

There are different market segments. You can cater to the luxury market of shoppers who are willing to spend more, which provides you with higher margins or the mainstream market that is more budget conscious and therefore provides lower margins, but you move more product. This is a simplification, but Lucid is aligned to the luxury market. They currently serve a niche, which is higher-end EVs.
