Dazzling-Rooster2103@reddit
After reading the specs, the RS6 wins easily...
Just can't get over that 4.0L V8.
KSoMA@reddit
RS6 is dropping the V8, so I guess enjoy the M5 Touring.
Clownish_76@reddit
but even though it is a V8, it still has the hyrbid.... so not as pure as the Audi.
KSoMA@reddit
Yeah, about that...
bschmidt25@reddit
This is going to end up probably $30-40k less expensive than the RS6. Different target market for this car too.
TasteyMeatloaf@reddit
Yes. It has the six cylinder instead of the 8 cylinder. I prefer it to the V8 for better mileage and range.
Since BMW doesn’t have a 550e or 540 wagon in the USA and Audi doesn’t have the S6 Avant in the USA, the E53 wagon won’t have any direct competition.
BigOldButt99@reddit
The E53 is the medium flavor AMG, more in line with an S6 Audi (if there is one, i have no idea). The E63 would be the competitor to the RS6.
bikedork5000@reddit
There is an S6 Audi. Sedan only. With the 2.9 V6 twin turbo from the RS5/Macan/S7. Wish THAT one was available as a wagon. Instead you have to have $130k for an RS6 with all the fancy bodywork and v8.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
The E53 will be the top of the lineup, the E63 is dead, as per Ola Källenius.
BigOldButt99@reddit
Oh that's sad to hear. Is the e63 sedan dead as well? The E53 wagon seems like a pretty good deal, nearly 600hp and starts at $40,000 less than the RS6 (90k vs 130k)
narwhal_breeder@reddit
Yes, no E63 sedan either.
Pro-editor-1105@reddit
Isn't this more designed to compete with the S6 rather than the RS6?
Fishtaco1234@reddit
You need to make like 500k a year to afford this!
EnvironmentalLab1047@reddit
work smarter. not harder.
turb0_encapsulator@reddit
This will be like $120k after tariffs.
EnvironmentalLab1047@reddit
It’s cool.
TasteyMeatloaf@reddit
Maybe a little more.
StrangeSmellz@reddit
Alright, let's get the list of complaints going:
bikedork5000@reddit
Because it's a Merc. I would at least consider almost every other brand. And especially would not consider Mercedes now with their current cheesy ass disco lights interior designs.
EnvironmentalLab1047@reddit
There is an off button for the disco.
TasteyMeatloaf@reddit
The turn signal indicators and other driver display indicators are hidden behind the steering wheel.
11iron@reddit
I wouldn’t buy a 100k car in the midst of an oncoming depression.
XCCO@reddit
I'm always depressed. I'll need a better excuse than that.
ZannX@reddit
You don't have 100k.
TheGeorgeForman@reddit
Maybe if you bought more 100k cars, you wouldn't be depressed?
dont_wear_a_C@reddit
The target market for this car most likely won't be affected by a depression, imo
Heylookitscaps2@reddit
How much did you pay for the crystal ball?
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit
It’s too low, getting in and out the is pain.

JALbert@reddit
12 color options, I'd guess a brown is more likely than not for this vehicle. Dakota Brown was one of the 12 options for '18 E63 wagons.
TurboSalsa@reddit
Not used from the factory?
Hard pass.
RBJ_09@reddit
My pockets are popped daddy
opeth10657@reddit
Personally
Because it's a wagon.
Multifaceted-Simp@reddit
I wouldn't ever want to drive a car that looks like that inside
Von_Jelway@reddit
As someone passionate about wagons, can I just say how wonderful it is to have THREE wagons in the U.S. that anyone can purchase for merely $150,000???
cookingboy@reddit
Wait are there no wagons in the U.S. for cheaper than $100k?
I guess it went from a body type associated with being lame to exclusively being a rich enthusiasts' status symbol.
If this keeps up the perception of wagons may finally change again lmao.
ViperThreat@reddit
Audi A4 Allroad Quattro - $47,600
Audi A6 Allroad Quattro - $70,500
Mercedes-Benz E 450 4MATIC All-Terrain - $76,100
Subaru Outback - $29,010 - $42,910
Toyota Crown Signia - $43,590 - $47,990
Volvo V60 Polestar Engineered - $71,250
Volvo V60 Cross Country - $50,300
Volvo V90 Cross Country - $59,800
AFAIK, that's it.
Porshuh@reddit
The Outback and Crown Signia aren't wagons.
Not_A_Crazed_Gunman@reddit
They're as wagon as you're gonna get without paying out the nose...
ILikeTewdles@reddit
Agreed. Sadly 2025 is the last year of the "wagon" form factor Outback. Next year Subaru is refreshing it as a SUV...
Subaru lost me on their last few generations. My Outback Wilderness was a pretty big disappointment, especially the infotainment. The build quality was subpar too, so many effing rattles after 1 year.
Sad they no longer offer anything I'm interested in.
EnvironmentalLab1047@reddit
Facts on the Subaru quality goin down hill over the past decade.
peepers_meepers@reddit
I wouldn't call the outback a crossover. It's still very wagon to me.
Porshuh@reddit
When I'm stuck behind one it impedes my view of the road about as much as say, a CX-30 does, and not about as much as an E-class wagon does. Ergo it is a crossover.
rommi04@reddit
It’s been very cuv to me for years
ViperThreat@reddit
This list is based on this post
cookingboy@reddit
Ok that's honestly a much better selection than I originally thought.
Not exactly cheap other than the Outback but much better than what the person I replied to described.
Arc_Ulfr@reddit
The Subaru and Toyota aren't wagons and the Volvos are getting axed along with at least one of the Audis.
bikedork5000@reddit
Good luck finding those Audi ones. Cars .com shows 26 total A6 Allroads nationwide
alexmaknet@reddit
When I was buying a wagon in January 2023, there was one 2019 BMW 3 Series nationwide at that moment. So much choice.
kryx@reddit
Allroads sell super fast when they come up. They're fairly rare and the people who want them really want them (like me, looking to upgrade to a B9.5).
snowman_M@reddit
So you’re saying to find one injury need to go to cars.com?
bikedork5000@reddit
For comparison, it shows 2,114 A6 sedans. Filter that to just 2020-current and it's over 1,300.
cat_prophecy@reddit
V60 is dead in the US.
Thoth_the_5th_of_Tho@reddit
I thought it was only the polestar version that’s dead.
cat_prophecy@reddit
Volvo won't be selling any sedans or wagons in the US. Only the EX, EC, and XC range.
Ran4@reddit
Surely you could get a 3 or 5 series in wagon form too??
joshbro4@reddit
The V60 Polestar Engineered has been discontinued
RoosterDenturesV2@reddit
Unfortunately yhe v60 polestar was just discontinued, glad I got mine at the end of last year for a steal
KSoMA@reddit
A4 Allroad is discontinued, and there appears to be no A5 Allroad to replace it. RS5 Avant might come to the US at least, and that will likely be around or under $80k.
The A6 Allroad, on the other hand, hasn't been officially announced yet, but has been seen testing on public roads and most likely will come to the US.

LeifEriksonASDF@reddit
Also the Cross Turismos if those count
stakoverflo@reddit
The only affordable ones are boring pedestrian appliances.
We need the Golf R Wagon. or Toyota should GR-ify the Corolla Estate [and then bring that here] 🙃
orthopod@reddit
Audi RS6 Avant
Audi A4 Allroad
Audi A6 Allroad
This Merc AMG
Porsche Taycan Turismo ,,( 2 diff models/trim?)
Subaru Outback
Volvo v60, V90
In 2024, mini Clubman was also available.
Arc_Ulfr@reddit
The Outback isn't a wagon, nor the Mini, the Volvos are going away, and I believe that at least one of the Audis is as well.
Equivalent_Chipmunk@reddit
So grateful to have these great family vehicles as an option for regular everyday people, like corporate execs, partners at law firms, and managing directors at banks
AcanthaceaeNo948@reddit
Partners at law firms nowadays make 8 figures. They drive Bugattis not Benzes.
Equivalent_Chipmunk@reddit
Any of that group could be making 8 figures or 7 figures depending on what company they work at. Not everyone is going to work at a big law firm in a HCOL area.
su1ac0@reddit
MSRP 2025 E class wagon: $76k
MSRP 1994 E class wagon: $46k (adjusted for inflation, $99k)
Glerberschmertz@reddit
1995 Toyota Camry Wagon: $21,365 ($44,732 adjusted)
1995 Subaru Outback (back when it was still a wagon): $20,005 ($41,884 adjusted)
2005 Ford Taurus Wagon: $22,555 ($36,850)
2003 Lexus Sportcross: $30,805 ($53,420)
While I don’t think people would buy these cars today still at these inflated numbers, I think these are the affordable type wagon comparisons people are looking for. Not the E series Mercedes.
thetrappster@reddit
2025 A4 Allroad: 47,600
su1ac0@reddit
then I should have instead pointed out "sir this is a post about top tier german luxry brands"
RabidBlackSquirrel@reddit
Heck, my 91 Mercedes 300TE 4matic was ~$63k new in 1991. $147k today.
E class wagons, at least your non AMG stuff, has never been cheaper. It's a fun comparison because the lineage continues and it's a direct comparison.
su1ac0@reddit
base first gen AMG Hammer (1995 E class wagon): $125k
adjusted for inflation: $261k
2025 E class AMG wagon, pricing unannounced but E53 wagon is $89k. Presumably wagon won't be far beyond it.
Equivalent_Chipmunk@reddit
I said regular everyday people. Where's my €29k Opel Astra wagon?
orthopod@reddit
So buy a Mini Clubman, Subie Outback, or Volvo V60
Or get a used Cadillac CTS wagon for 20k.
To be honest there isn't much difference at all between the wagons and the crossovers- mostly cosmetic. And there are a ton of affordable options.
Equivalent_Chipmunk@reddit
I said wagon sir, you can't seriously suggest a Clubman to me. They have less storage than my Golf.
There's a huge difference between most crossovers and wagons. Wagons are long, crossovers are tall. Many crossovers can barely fit anything behind the rear seat unless you can stack it to the ceiling, vs wagons have a very usable storage area shape. There are a couple crossovers that are wagon-like, such as the Outback, but they're also a far cry from a 340i wagon or similar.
thetrappster@reddit
A4 allroad starts at just under 48k...
FlyingYankee118@reddit
Now make a good one for 60k
tclark2006@reddit
Ct4v Blackwing Wagon with a wiggle stick would be the vehicle that makes me sell my whole fleet of cars off.
HawaiiLawStudent@reddit
Volvo Wagon is somewhat affordable
Subaru Wagon is truly the only affordable wagon
John_Sux@reddit
It balances out a bit. Other countries with more entry-level wagons available, also have massively lower wages, so thing are just as unaffordable!
And, at least you've still got cheap gas, few if any inspections/annual taxes on cars, restrictions on mods and tuning, all this other stuff. And a continent's worth of varied, paved roads.
Really, it's difficult to have things much better, so the Americans here ought to stop complaining.
Weak-Specific-6599@reddit
Most Americans don’t whine as much as wagon enthusiasts on r/cars.
John_Sux@reddit
I don't know, it seem relatively common to see the "we never get anything cool" type of comment, in a thread about news that one particular model is not coming to the US market.
For being a car enthusiast, it's the best place on the planet and they don't always remember that.
handymanshandle@reddit
The US is a great place to be a car enthusiast. It doesn’t mean that there aren’t gaps in our car market, though. I’ll use myself as an example, because I had to compromise on what I got. I wished I could have got a new wagon that was fun, but the only new wagon we get here in North America that’s under $50k is the Subaru Outback, which isn’t particularly engaging to drive. I also considered a hot hatch, but the only one in my price range at the time I bought my Elantra N was the Golf GTI, and I don’t particularly love those, either.
I would have killed for an i30 N, but alas, we never got those here. It’s not me really crying about it as much as I lament it, and I think we all lament what we do and don’t get to some degree.
John_Sux@reddit
To my ear it just sounds like "our bar in Tahiti was out of tequila one night" like that's a real problem and everyone can afford to fly there.
Legendver2@reddit
Wait till you price in the tariffs!
AngryScottish@reddit
I had my 2014 E63S wagon for sale for three months, had three people ask about it. It had ~130k miles and I was asking $30k.
I ended up selling it to carvana as I left the country and couldn't keep it. I loved that car.
Directdrive7kg@reddit
I just had a look today, Volvo v90s have lost almost 50% to depreciation in 3 years. Could get 2022 model for bit over $30k Canadian
DruidB@reddit
Where in Canada? 7 Year old V90's are between 28k to 35k with 150,000kms on them.

a 2022 fully loaded e450 was at my local used dealer, low mileage and priced like 5k under similar models. I just wanted to check it out for curiosity. It was gone within the two hours i got the notification and i emailed the dealer.

We are also getting the BMW 540 xDrive Touring in the States next year.
TasteyMeatloaf@reddit
A 540 xDrive Touring would be great to have in the US. Where did you see that the USA will get them.
I’m glad that we are getting the E53 Wagon.
The new A6 Avant in Europe looks nice.
AdSwimming8030@reddit
It’s been announced to dealers.
America is getting the new A6 Wagon just only in RS and allroad versions.
TasteyMeatloaf@reddit
Are they expected to arrive mid 2026?
Manafont-@reddit
Good to see wagons trickling down into the lower performance trims. Would be great if there was an S4 Wagon or M340i Wagon in the states.
TasteyMeatloaf@reddit
Or an M540 iX Touring wagon
CUvinny@reddit
S4 had a baby with the S5 and died. No A/S/RS 5 Abant in NA unfortunately.
AdSwimming8030@reddit
We will be getting A5 wagons in the States. Stay tuned.
Audi never actually said it wasn’t coming, just that they won’t comment.
Safe_Hope1521@reddit
Ice - but starts at $120k according to Car and Driver. I just can’t justify anything over $100k
GroupBQuattr0@reddit
I wish someone could bring a cool wagon that wasn’t 100k
edinburghiloveyou44@reddit (OP)
Same.
GroupBQuattr0@reddit
I know there a have to be a ton of us who can afford 60k but not 100k. Why can’t we have something ~350hp and sporty? Just not fair. Market has to be there. Maybe not 20 years ago, but I think it is now
BlueWingedTiger@reddit
exterior looks great but man is the interior meh :/
edinburghiloveyou44@reddit (OP)
I agree. The interior of the W212 is the chef’s kiss.

Looks like high end sports wagon market becoming great again in North America. I think it’s time for GM bringing back their performance wagon to ask German big 3.
bikedork5000@reddit
If Cadillac made the CTV-4 Blackwing in a wagon version it would be the first time in ages I've considered an American car.
MagnetizedMetal@reddit
Surely I’m missing something. Supposedly wagons are not popular in the US hence why companies don’t bring them. Yet the wagons that some companies decide to bring are unattainium for like 99% of us? Make it make sense…
Dramatic-Bottle2440@reddit
Seems pretty obvious. Very low volume, niche product so they can charge more. You poor schmucks don’t buy new cars anyway.
hallusk@reddit
Because the demographic that likes wagons is rich
J0kutyypp1@reddit
This is so weird to read being from the nordics. Here 30-40k wagons are very normal middle-class cars. Of course lately SUVs have been eating that market share but wagons are still doing pretty well.
Vesploogie@reddit
They’re not popular, that’s why no one sells a cheap volume sales wagon.
There’s a very small niche of people who buy them because they’re unattainium. Wagons need to be status symbols nowadays.
MagnetizedMetal@reddit
I get it, but it’s got to be literally a handful of sales a year. I don’t think I’ve ever seen one of these high performance wagons from Audi or BMW only like once or twice the AMG. At that point why even bother?

Because if something is going to be very niche and not in high demand, the only way to make the numbers work is with fat margins.
Mkrtiiich@reddit
this is actually so sick, bringing the accessibility of a medium wagon that is somewhere between a 63 and a 450, it's about time

It adds like 40 kg. Getting a sedan makes no sense.
Whiteyak5@reddit
Well I presume they'll bring the E63 wagon over as well at some point.
Big_Size_2519@reddit
There won’t be one
Whiteyak5@reddit
Why's that?
cpxchewy@reddit
Mercedes E class is all electrified and the C63 w/ a 4 cyl is backfiring pretty badly. So this will prob be the top of the line E class.
Captain_Alaska@reddit
I mean the CLE 63 has been spotted with a V8 and no charging port.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/mercedes-benz/amg-e53/
narwhal_breeder@reddit
There wont be an E63, sedan or otherwise.
durrtyurr@reddit
The E-class wagon in the USDM is basically golden, because even though it has low sales the people who buy them are super rich. Last I looked the E-class wagon vs sedan, the wagon buyers make 3x as much money as the sedan buyers. Nobody stretches to buy a wagon.
Threewisemonkey@reddit
Also why they make great used cars after they’re replaced in 10-20 years and sold for 10% of original msrp
narwhal_breeder@reddit
That they do
vargemp@reddit
That's interesting because wagons used to be reserved for poor people that needed one universal car for everything.

AdSwimming8030@reddit
Yes and dealers have been begging for a non-All Terrain version for years now that also wasn’t a super super up AMG, Good comprise!
I drive a V60 Polestar right now and when the lease is up, I’m probably getting an E53 wagon, but also curious to see what the Audi wagon selection ends up looking like here for 2026.
handymanshandle@reddit
Loyal customers that aren’t there to argue with your dealerships’ sales department are always worth having. Loyal customers with big money that are gonna come back to buy more than one of your products… yeah, they don’t mind bringing over the E-class wagon even if it represents a rather paltry portion of Mercedes sales.
cuteman@reddit
Not sure it's "loyal customers" moreso people being unconcerned with negotiating price at that tier of cost.
cuteman@reddit
The only person I've known with an E63 Wagon is the daughter of a billionaire who was our neighbor in college.
I've seen a few but it was always such an odd intersection of cost and features that it was pretty rare to see let alone know anyone who owned one.
AwesomeBantha@reddit
based on the terrible (LOUD) exhaust noises I’ve heard from RS6es with Insta360s stuck to the hatch glass, I’m sure people will stretch for the right wagon
nobody will stretch for an E53 but I’m sure something like an M3 Touring would attract the kind of person who wants to make TikToks about taking [insert slightly performancey vehicle in New York traffic] to Gapplebees

It once maybe was, but its now more of a unique subset of buyers now that Mercedes has decided to cater to. If you are curious Strategic Vision (market research company) puts some of this data out for the public as they pull data from various companies sales for threir "Most Loved Vehicle" report.
