The actual dealer's website has no discounts. I think [cars.com](http://cars.com) might have had the price listed wrong here.
Slow news day. Also that infotainment and driver display look terrible. At least recess it into the dash so it looks stock and not like you command stripped an iPad on the dash.
Thank you, and this needs to be higher. I'm blown away by all the comments from people who think their opinions are now justified and are screaming " SEE!!!! I TOLD YOU NO ONE WANTS THIS CAR!!1! ITS SUCH A GARBAGE CAR". Like geez we get it, you don't like electric muscle cars. Calm down.
I think they (in theory) could, since the EV Platform has shown some serious potential performance wise. But to take a Muscle Car icon like the Charger and turn it into an EV? Nah.
IMO, the task of making Muscle EV's needs to be done by newer companies, or as a completely new and separate model from the giants and even oddballs of American Muscle.
Honestly the Lucid Sapphire took over what the Hellcat could do, but with better handling. It outdid a Chiron in the quarter mile. I'm not sure muscle cars as they existed could work in an EV framework because you don't necessarily sacrifice handling for power and most manufacturers aren't doing rwd only because they want numbers associated with their cars.

Eyyyy I work at said dealership. Can confirm that is not the price of the vehicle. The company we use to set our prices really screwed us up and the prices on ALL of of our new vehicles are slashed like 70-80%. We have received a ridiculous amount of sales calls which has made for a crazy morning.
The outside company acts as a price fixer and allows companies to conspire to raise prices. It's happening in the real estate industry too. Actually being prosecuted there.
For 3rd party websites that’s just how it’s handled. For our own website the General and sales manager oversee that so at least our CDJR website reflected the correct pricing.
Probably farming out the dealership website and cars.com part to a 3rd party company. That’s my guess at least. Smaller dealerships can’t really make it work to have a full time in house internet sales department.
This needs to be higher. Pricing boo boo not with standing, how are the sales and interest on the Chargers? Slow movers? These should have “market adjusted” pricing for new performance model launches (like the Mustang) for at least a few months imho.
Yeah pretty slow tbh, we’ve only really sold them to our regular customers that like to spend money. People definitely ask questions about them but it’s no more than curiosity. Also we’re not really a dealership that likes to stock the hybrid or electric vehicles that stellantis offers but we stock some to keep the reps happy.
> This needs to be higher.
I would be "that guy" who goes in with their ad and tried to hold them to the advertised price. I did it before in the early days of online listings. They listed the "trade in" value as the price by mistake. They were pissed off, but honored that price.
You can get automatic C5 for around 10k less then 100k miles. C5Z in enjoyed but safe condition 15-20k. Come down to Florida. We got tons of c5, garage kept by boomers
I’d be that person. It’s not that far fetched. Toyota if you don’t want to hassle with repairs, but don’t mind something soulless. The corvette if you miss having a sports car and want to row your own, but totally impractical for any family driving duties. And the EV charger if you feel down and bumped your head real hard and forgot there are a lot of other more fun and more reliable choices out there but you just have to have that charger body style.
Best to wait for the V8 ICE versions to come out, it won’t be long. I hear their throwing in a dodge hornet with every ev charger sale now ;). That way they don’t have to give you a rental when your EV charger bricks itself.
No traditional dodge charger owner is wanting a EV offering. But here we are.
30k can buy a lot of practical car or fun car. New dodge charger Daytona is neither.
Moving the goal post... sporty and fun or a FWD underpowered Kona. Shrug, you can do whatever. But my point is there's a price point where someone who would have never looked at the Dodge would look at the Dodge.
None of my goal posts involve a Kona? You built a straw man and moved the goal post. There's nothing more to this conversation than you talking to yourself lol.

Every Dodge product I’ve driven I’ve not enjoyed. Interior quality felt cheap even for the prices they’re offering.
In today’s competitive market, I just don’t see myself buying a Dodge
You said the new dodge charger Daytona is neither practical nor fun. What is your basis for saying that? Is it the low spec interior that makes it that way for you?
Every Dodge product that I’ve driven even the new stuff. The interior has been pretty subpar for the money. I thought it just me so I had my wife test drive and she felt the same.
The performance you’re getting from that car is not impressive by EV standard. It’s very heavy and it’s not a car I would like to take the auto cross.
There’s some very good competitive options out there and I’m just not gonna buy a Dodge for the price
If autocross is how you have fun, then most cars are not going to be fun, especially EVs.
I get not wanting to pay a premium for a Dodge, but I would not be able to objectively or personally claim that they are not fun or practical by comparing spec sheets.
It’s funny you say that because we have plenty of Teslas that come out to our auto cross and those dudes are putting down some absolutely blistering times. Nobody in the Tesla at our auto cross, has a frown on their face
EV can be fun, but between the dodge interior. Other more competitive options. I just don’t see myself spending 30k lat alone. 60
If you don’t equate competitive lap times at an autocross with having fun at an autocross, I see no reason to assume I couldn’t have a similarly fun time in the Dodge.
As an EV on paper the Dodge will come out slower then the Tesla performance or the Hyundai N. I don’t think it will be as thrilling as either nor as fast on times.
I don’t mind EV, and think they can be a lot of fun. But having given dodge a chance to impress me. They have always fallen short. I’ll definitely give dodge a chance again but I sure don’t expect much.
Model 3 performance is 4,000lbs vs the dodge at 5,800, the Hyundai N 4,800lbs . 3 500hp equivalent vs the dodge 627 in the most potent form, the N which is 641hp equivalent.
So vs its EV rivals its way behind on paper alone.
And my point is that all you are comparing is on-paper specs and whether one car can go faster around a track. Are we talking about having fun, or are we talking about being objectively fast and competitive on a race course? Those are two very different things you continue to keep conflating. I won’t bother you anymore. It is ok to not like the idea of something based on past experience, but you really don’t seem to have any real reason that might persuade me to believe the new Dodge isn’t a fun car to drive.
And you seem to ignore the fact that someone that can enjoy your car that’s not necessarily fast on times there are other metrics I’m compiling
You seem to have completely overstep the weight situation which I commented to tracks a lot of the fun from throwing a car around. Be it on the street (to a lesser degree) or at the track (a much bigger degree.)
You also seem to have side steeped my willingness to give dodge another try. I don’t think I’ll enjoy it, because all the signs say not. But I’m not above letting dodge change my mind.
“ 30k can buy a lot of practical car or fun car. New dodge charger Daytona is neither.”
These were your exact words. You made a declarative statement and I proceeded to ask you why you believed that. Maybe just don’t make a comment if you don’t want people asking you why you might believe the comment you yourself made is true. Or, maybe just have good reasons for saying stuff.
At no point does that quote attempt to convince YOU of that. We are here for conversation and conversation we are having. I made a statement and you started this not I. A statement with someone ELSE, you decided to jump into the conversation
My buddy is actively cross shopping land cruisers, 996 911s, mirages, a sailboat, and Honda Odysseys. He will eventually buy one, but I have no idea what it's going to be.
I’m sure there’s some married car guy out there who started looking at ‘A’ (Corolla) with his wife then he ended up arguing that ‘Q’ (Corvette) is more practical.
They usually meet in the middle and that’s how we ended up with sports sedans and crossovers.
Hahaha funny enough I am married now, just a week ago actually. She has no objections to it! Bought it as an upgrade to my civic si coupe for more power and have always been a rally fan.
Not in the midwest. Buddy bought his C5z in January. He got low miles for mid 20's. Over 100k was still 18k at best. I helped search multiple states for a couple months.
Her win Florida you cna have some good deals. Lots of the older folks are getting to the point that they can’t get in and out of them.
So they’re starting to sell them or parents die and the kids don’t want an old Corvette
Could see that, but having bought a car from FL it isn't fun. My viper came from there. You either pay for a flight to see it in person or cross your fingers its what you thought it was. Shipping enclosed across country is also not cheap.
Great if you are within a drive of FL, but adding a couple grand to the cost to a cheap vette makes it not worth it.
Shipping sucks across Florida no doubt. Just getting out of my state as a nightmare.
You may add a couple grand and shipping cost, but at least you know the cars are not gonna be rusted
You say that, but my Viper has rust on the hardware because the dealer was near the see. Car was from a northern state. I bought it because it was a 1 owner car. Guy had passed away and it got bought from a dealer up north by a dealer in FL.
Buying a c5 without rust is easy in the midwest. Lot of boomers bought them and parked them all winter. FL is only not going to be rusty if the car isn't near salt air.
Most folks who care keep the cars in the garage if they live by the water. Sure some don’t and gets exposed to sea air. But that’s sort of what you look for in a PPI. if it’s not to your likening you pass.
I'll bet the new Charger EV will be an easier car to deal with as a daily. Much more comfy and quiet, and I much prefer the looks of the Charger to most other EVs on the market.
The C5 Z is a lot of fun and it still has that analog feel. Parts are still commonly available besides a few. And the c5 is much cheaper than the C6 or a C8.
With $$ saved some apex wheels, torque tube rebuild, rear main seal, clutch job, harmonic balancer. And you still come out saving $$.
At the normal price, I'd go Ionic N any day, but half priced? That's a decent value proposition...
Like their leases for $250-350. Either get a Civic Hybrid or this?
Except, they seem to have noticed the attention they got for this listing...

Confirmed. 30k. I mean you ain’t going faster for 30k unless you’re a mechanic - certainly not in anything new and reliable-ish. It’s not a completely bonkers choice at this mark-down
It's not *that* bad if you actually look at the numbers though.
Like the Taycan that people keep complaining about - a four year old Taycan 4s is still worth ~40% of its new price. That's... not that bad for a premium brand.
you've been on reddit for far too long my friend. let's get you back to the home. there are other cars out there besides Toyota and Mazda that are perfectly fine.
"Have you ever seen an EV that could blow up an imaginary transmission, give you oil consumption issues and brick the car because you looked at the radio funny? The Dodge Charger everybody!"
There's plenty of non-engine stuff that go wrong. Suspension, steering, sensors, processors, electrical issues unrelated to the high voltage battery that powers the car. The processor in the Maserati EVs is underpowered for the extra functioality an EV infotainment display needs (route planning and detailed charger info, battery preconditioning, real-time torque distribution). It lags noticeably, and I don't expect they used a more powerful processor for the Charger.
Actually...
That's wrong if your talking overall speed.
The Charger Daytona R/T maxes out at 134 MPH, and the Charger Daytona Scat Pack maxes out at 137 MPH.
You can absolutely go get a BRZ for $30k and reach 140 MPH which is its limited top speed.

https://www.jalopnik.com/2024-dodge-charger-daytona-ev-is-convincing-muscle-car-1851717095/
Apparently it is gear limited.
To say nothing of the Ioniq 5, which can hit 155 like any good ~~German~~ Korean machine could. And while the stock version is even slower, Ford has successfully built a Mach-E which can hit 189 or more. Basically, once the inevitable Mustang E.O happens, this thing is *fucked.*
I wonder that too. Crazy to think it might be $30k before the tax credit. I think Dodge priced these way too high, if they came out with MSRPs around $40k, I think there’d be a lot more enthusiasm for this car.
From the Feds, but companies can still offer discounts of similar size. Hyundai does that, at least for Ioniq leases. No idea if they'll offer it on purchases, but they certainly have the money needed to make it work.
It's marked down right now to 17K. And I ain't kidding. I checked eck the listing, I think somebody's either drunk, high, or an intern doing their pricing...
I thought these were cool when they were announced. I love the styling and I think an electric muscle car sounds fun. I finally sat in one recently and I was amazed at how cheap everything felt, for an almost $80k car.
But man, $30k... please tell me the downsides..
After a certain amount of time the bank will force you to pay off the car and then you take a hit on your PnL for the entire cost of the car. Program money can get hit to the balance of the car to lower the balance but some dealers have to take several thousand dollar loser deals to move that car. Especially since you don’t get incentives.
So I have been looking at all of the leftover new 2023 Challengers that are still on dealer lots around the country. Some of them are heavily discounted, but not selling. Do you think these 2023's are bought off already? I want to find a KILLER deal on a new 2023, but they are still 3 years old at this point.
> but some dealers have to take several thousand dollar loser deals to move that car
Have you ever seen a car remain unsold even after the dealer drops the price a ton? Or do they all eventually move?
Does it make any sense to try and get loaner miles on them then as a depreciated expense and try to flip under the demo designation? Or are there more barriers there?
Have a lot of car dealer sales experience and have always been close with the owner and general manager. If you aren’t a high volume dealer it seems you really get fucked on the floor plan.
You get charged interest every single day. Once a car hits over a year, you only have really a few more months to sell it before your store has to but it from them.

No not typically but doesn’t mean your manufacturer rep won’t try to strong arm you into getting them. There are incentives that the dealer gets from ordering cars but it’s up to your current inventory levels and whether or not it makes financial sense. If you’re not selling cars why order more ya know
The more aged it gets, the more you’re gunna lose. Obviously turn Is the name of the game but once you get to +250 days on the lot you need to come up with a game plan (I’m talking new). For used anything over a few months but this is my store policy
Not CDJR specifically but there are a few 2023 MY Maserati MC20s for sale near me at their original ~$280k MSRP. Why not just lower the price to get it sold? Are things different in the Maserati world?

On what market analysis did Stellantis base the Charger Daytona? Presumably, they saw a gap in the market for an EV to cater towards the muscle car purchasing demographic.
Everyone does one or two, goes "hell yeah this cat is SO COOL", then drives it back and forth in a commute every day. This car doesn't give the "so cool" moment, it's just loud.
Funny enough I don't think most people ever do burnouts.
Enthusiasts will, but a car can't survive off of enthusiasts alone.
For a big comfy reasonably fast car, it looks fine. But the venn diagram of people who buy muscle cars, and people who buy EVs is two separate circles. I'd consider one for the right price, but I'd also have a 2nd car.
Enthusiasts are influencers. Anyway it's not just about burnouts the entire idea is fundamentally a misread of the market. This is one of the worst examples of the EV-overreach, but there are dozens more from the other automakers. There was so much hype around EV's a couple years ago and they dumped tons of money into making these cars, meanwhile in reality gas cars are still better and cheaper. The automakers also overestimated the speed of the legal 'favor' the governments would put to advance EVs (taxes or bans on gas cars and gasoline, tax incentives on EVs and charging), so they're caught in a lurch. They made a product that sucks and people don't HAVE to buy.
>internet influencers
That's not what we're talking about, obviously. We're talking about car magazines like C&D, R&T, car reviewers that write for WSJ, NYT, USATODAY, etc. People who influence the car buying public. Actually boomers are even more keyed in to influencers because they tend to follow influencers from the ossified old media.
This is an interesting comment. Got me thinking.
So, we have seen that the historical character of a model (e.g., EV mustang) isn't dispositive of a failed EV swap on a beloved line. Mustangs were watered down long before the EV Mustang came out, though.
Which, to me, makes me think it's cost. Cost cost cost. If I have to pick between a BMW, a Lucid, a Tesla, a Lexus, and a Charger, all with roughly the same price tag, you know, why the *fuck* am I buying a Charger of any kind?
If this thing *launched* at 40k it would've been a hit.
People see a Hellcat doing burnouts and go and buy a V6 Charger
None of these are doing burnouts and there’s negative hype around them; it doesn’t matter if most people won’t do a burnout either, unless someone runs from a police helicopter in one of these the street cred just won’t be there
They actually do disable the front. The problem is that the rear motors are too weak to actually do the burnout. So it just awkward kinda spins. (At least in a video I saw of it)
Yeah, but I thought they at least had a "no AWD" button for obvious reasons. You're telling me it doesn't? Fuck's sake, even *Hyundai* has that. *HYUNDAI.*
All sense got thrown out the window with the previous CEO Tavares (?). I doubt there was any logic behind it as they were on their EV high horse and refused to get off of it.
I think the logic was "we need an EV that will be appealing to traditional muscle car buyers" I think the idea as this would broaden the market for EVs. I think the basic concept is interesting, but they went the wrong way. I think the cars that do the best are those that embrace being an EV while offering something unique. Rivian and perhaps even the Scout brand.
This didn't offer anything unique. It's just a bad EV that looks like a muscle car.
Agreed. The first *true* EV muscle car will likely come from - who else? - Ford. Keep what works about the Mach E, improve what you can (mainly speed and driving feel), offer it as a coupe/sedan and keep the 5.0 available as a backup wherever possible.
True, but the same could be said about the SuperVan and SuperTruck. Ford seems to be snorting some of the same coke that Dodge used to do except instead of putting the Hellcat motor in everything they're putting shit-splitting EV motors and crazy downforce aero in everything
My understanding is that EVs are pretty good at doing what muscle cars do - they have great acceleration and can be very fast. Just do that with cool styling and that's basically all a muscle car is.
No the problem is they thought their buyers were smart. They aren't. They want dumb power. Or the look of dumb power. They don't care how quick anything actually is.
It’s also just plain ugly. It looks like a box with slits cut for headlights and stuff. For $70k so many better electric vehicles to choose from. Also the informant and drivers screen looks like they command stripped them to the dash.
The problem with Tavares was he came from PSA. He was very knowledgeable about the European market and Stellantis are killing it with a lot of the cars they're pushing out over here from their core brands. The issue is he didn't understand the North American market and tried applying European principles to it, which just doesn't work.
Yeah, Tavares will certainly be a case study for MBA students, I'm sure haha. I was curious if there was any hint from marketing material you may have gotten as a dealer.

> an EV to cater towards the muscle car purchasing demographic.
EV purchaser and Muscle Car purchaser are mutually exclusive. Stellantis must have been smoking some good shit to think that this would reach them somehow.
That car at least needs to consistently out-muscle regular family sedans of similar prices... Instead you can get a Hyundai SUV that beats it, for 10k cheaper? Model 3/Y performance? Mach E GT? Even a Rivian truck is in the ballpark of acceleration vs price. What is it even good for?
Being an asshole? *half /s*
^(To be honest, yeah, the Mach E makes this a tough sell. Though it'd be an easier sell if it were a coupe or sedan, variants which I'm sure are coming.)
How is inventory going? What do things look like long term? I get this guy from OKC who is a bit dramatic, but there certainly is some merit in his points about vehicles being too expensive and on lots.

You said dog shit quality on the wagoneer, would you say that’s the same story for gladiators still? Custom ordered a 2023 that broke 400 miles after driving it off the lot and had a hell of a time trying to get it repaired so ended up getting rid of it for a Tacoma before the gladiator prices tanked. I feel like an idiot for even considering another one but my wife and I really liked it.
You didn't ask me, but having driven one a handful of times, it's just seems to fill a stupid niche that nobody needed filled.
It's not great at being a truck, so why wouldn't you just buy a small truck? It's not great at off-roading (relative to a Wrangler) so why not just get a Wrangler? It makes so many compromises, and for what? For who?
The engine is wheezy and anemic, the cabin is cramped, it somehow has worse on-road driving dynamics than the already godawful Wrangler... what is it supposed to be good at?
If you want a pickup truck that you can take the top off of/put the top down, that isn't literally a hundred years old, the Gladiator is your only option. Or I guess try to hunt down a running/not completely destroyed Dakota convertible or CJ8 Scrambler (interesting also both Chrysler products). In spite of all the "Jeep-ness", I was genuinely interested in the Gladiator for this reason alone (also availability of a manual transmission). Ultimately the bed is too short for what I needed it to do so I passed on it. If they'd made a 6-footer I could conceivably have one right now.
Sure, I get that. But again, that's an impossibly small niche, right?
Like, I would really like a minivan with a twin turbo V6 and somewhat sporty styling. Like a longer, bigger Dodge Durango with sliding doors.
Who the hell else actually wants that? Maybe some people! But enough to make a one-of-one model that fits the bill? Surely not...
I have a friend who had one for a year or so.
His logic:
* Top comes off (#1 priority)
* Bed is nice for mountain bikes
* He liked the 3.6/cabin
* Came in a manual
* Big discounts
Interesting. Thanks for sharing their logic!
Aside from the discounts (everybody loves those) that's still quite the niche. Honestly, what percentage of the market is looking for that very specific combination? The answer is apparently 0.2% of new car buyers in 2024 lol
Want a small, manual truck? Tacoma.
Want a manual truck (w/o bed) that you can take the top off of? Wrangler or Bronco.
I just have to imagine a big draw to the Gladiator is that it's a Jeep, and people love using Jeep's to seem outdoorsy. It's a lifestyle brand for 90% of its buyers.
I had one as a rental in Banff a few months ago, not even 2000 km and it had a CEL, the transmission was slipping and literally half the electronics in it didn't work 💀
Edit: and there was some kind of parasitc drain going on too, it had to be jumped
They weren't even selling when they were first released. At the same time, the competition had zero available inventory and were selling before they rolled off the trucks.
TWe’ve sold about 10-12 GT hornets since they launched. When they first dropped they sold quick. Then sales really started to taper off. Then picked back up again literally a month or so ago. Selling like hot cakes. The R/Ts are the ones that are a tough sell. I mean fully loaded you’re at like 55k MSRP
I’ve taken the Wagoneer on a 16 hr road trip and didn’t see any problem with it. It’s comfortable and had no problem with the range. Some of the interior quality is questionable. Especially when you’re looking at a $100k Grand Wagoneer. Some might be disappointed by that, which is understandable. Main issue is the mechanical and electrical problems (which obviously is huge because that’s what a car is lol)
I wouldn’t be worried. You have warranty. I’ve sold 2 Wagoneers to people and in their time of ownership haven’t had any issues except some electrical (which was solved by an update).
I actually kind of liked it. Smooth ride, tight steering, and obviously the instant torque makes for a super fun drive. The ambient lights made it feel like a space ship at night time. The only thing I absolutely hated was the freaking fake exhaust. My god it’s annoying but you can turn it off. Excited for the Twin Turbo V6
Do you think Stellantis is intentionally trying to kill Dodge?
I bought Dodges for over two decades, SRT after SRT. Then Stellantis came along and well, look at my sig now.
What are your thoughts on the Wagoneer? I was disappointed that they brought it back and it just looked like a long Grand Cherokee. The old Wagoneer had such great styling, and I wish they would have given it a retro look like Ford did with the Bronco.
When they first launched I was a little underwhelmed but after being around it for a while it grew on me. The blackout package makes it look badass. Supposedly there will be an exterior refresh but don’t know when that will happen.
Has the Jeep JL panel corrosion issue been corrected? I really want a new Rubicon but all the photos of pretty jeeps with their paint bubbling up are scaring me.
Thank god we do not. Those are a death sentence and some of them don’t even have their show rooms open, just service. The only thing I’m
Really looking forward to is the twin turbo charger. Supposedly there’s a sub 30k electric jeep they’re coming out with that I think should see a little bit of movement but it’s still an EV.
Eh, not bad in the grand scheme of things. I get 23mpg in a highly modded Wrangler. I'd probably get 13 in a gas one. Plus the diesel is pretty amazing for off-road and towing.
Why do you think gladiators aren’t moving as well as wranglers? Everything I’ve seen from them is middle of the road in terms of reliability and they’re certainly not shop queens.
Wranglers were fad cars that men could make cringe and women could stick ducks on.
The dudebro market for pickup trucks want a big 6' hood, and the comparatively small and dainty Gladiator on its pizzacutter wheels/tires is a little too... uggo-cute
Could just be my business center. Imo it’s kind of a niche model. They don’t drive very well and the cabin is tiny. If you were doing a lot of outdoor activities I think it makes sense. People just go with the regular Wrangler.
Does Stellantis want Dodge and Chrysler to succeed? Like is there some kind of game they’re playing for a tax writeoff we don’t know about causing them to kill off models without replacements ready?
What would you say ballpark is the dealer invoice for the Daytona? Curious how much the dealer is losing just to move these. When I was at Toyota we would go 2500 back of invoice pre-pandemic, half off or so of MSRP is bonkers. Especially considering this is a new launch for an iconic car.
Lol dealers will loathe Charger allocations since they don’t move and cost money.
They’re not necessarily bad cars, it’s just the fact that no one wants an electric “muscle car”. Plus, they’re kind of expensive for what they are. I feel the Wagoneer S will sell more than the charger as it’s somewhat practical
Why don’t more dealerships move to a show and order model?
I would think a lot of people (as evidenced by Teslas model) would be happy to order a new car if they could at least see a model?
Wouldn’t this cut down on the need for so much overhead stock?
People are more than welcome to stop in, test drive, and order what they please; but a lot of customers are unbelievably impatient and will not want to wait for the period of time it takes to build. If we don’t have what they want in stock, they’ll go down the street to another dealer and buy it. American consumers are all “now now now”.
Good points. I guess it was on the tail end of Covid the last time I went car shopping. I was just surprised that the lots didn’t at least keep a model of each car they sell on the lot. Many I went to didn’t have any of the model I wanted, even just to look at.
It got me thinking that I wouldn’t have minded walking into a showroom and seeing the car I want and specing it. But I’d want to see one.
I just went back on their website. They upped the price to $69.8k. It was either a typo or some kind of mess up. These cars just got on peoples lots this year and if you’re looking to take a 30k bath on a car that’s not even 2 months old you should probably get checked out.
Had a chat on Saturday with a sales guy at a regional powerhouse CDJR dealer about Stellantis pricing and quality and he was none-too-happy about the previous 3-4 years with their products. Can't blame 'em
Probably not for some time, if ever. Those cars are so popular and if you ever get one on your lot, you will get people calling from all over the country willing to pick it up. Someone will pay up for it.
In a family business. We’ve had a Dodge franchise since the 70s and was at one point one of the top dealers in the country. The franchise is near and dear to my heart and wouldn’t mind another ticket in the future. I feel things have gotten better and will continue to get better.
Depends on your business center. Dealers in the Detroit area do well but so many people work for the factory and get stupid pricing it kind of skews things.
i don't understand how this works. from what i understand, car dealerships typically lists a new car $1k-2k from MSRP.
how can they afford to make such a drastic cut & make a profit from what they paid the car manufacturer for invoice?
The end is coming for a lot of these dealerships, they got people out there with payments no normal human should ever consider taking on. Be well deserved, so kudos to them.
Dealer's site shows $69,480

VIN matches the [cars.com](http://cars.com) listing.
From all the reviews, this car is a half baked POS. It's one of those situations where you almost need to give it away for someone to buy it. Even at $30,000 that's like a 5-600 a month payment, which is about $500 more than I'd like to pay for one of these things.
I mean even if you got a free charger, the insurance bill would be more than the payment on another car because Dodge chargers and teenagers (especially if any are boys) statistically get much higher auto insurance rates
I mean you’d lose money even if it was tongue and cheek
A 36-month loan at 7.5% (which is sadly a good rate now) for a $10k car + 7% sales tax and + $200 on doc fees... So $11k.
That's still $342/month. Figure about $150/month for insurance and it's ~$500/month still. Add gas for a teen, probably $550-600. They aren't driving much.
A 16 yo, teenage girl on a Charger SP EV, I could see $500/month, but in that unlikely case I'd put them on my SUV, and I'd drive the Charger EV. I'd need my SUV as a backup anyway, I imagine the Charger EV is going to continue to break a lot.
I'm genuinely curious how shit it is though... Every single review that lambasts it does so under the guise of "It's wildly overpriced," "The speaker is stupid," and "It's a car no one asked for."
Which, OKAY, I'm sure that's all true. But in a vacuum, with no other considerations, how does it fare? If you've got 30k to spend and you want to go fast and you don't care about the above, it might be super interesting.
Everything I've seen said the computer tuning for the AWD and the throttle is godawful and it makes the car not fun to drive. It's also a first year for a new platform and Dodge's first serious attempt at making an EV, added to Dodge's already not great reliability. It sounds like a great deal with all the money on the hood but when you're paying $600 a month for your car to sit in the shop while a bunch of Dodge mechanics have no idea what's wrong since they aren't used to EVs?
Nah, pass on that
There's almost no price at which I'd get this car because it would mean getting it instead of something - anything - else out there. From the reviews it doesn't sound like there's anything particularly convincing about it. I suppose if someone gave it to me and told me all I had to pay was insurance I'd drive it. But I can think of EVs at several price points I'd rather drive than the Charger.
I don't get the real MSRPs of these things. for $20k more I can get a Cadillac Blackwing. Like Stellantis is truly fucked now I just wanted the Hurricane engines in the old charger.
It isn't just that it's an EV. It's a shitty EV. Then they'll blame all EVs when this hunk of shit doesn't sell. "SEE ALL EV BAD THE MARKET DOESNT WANT EV!"
There's no way they expected muscle car enthusiasts to be the bread and butter audience because that just doesn't make sense. They just abjectly failed to reach whoever they thought would buy it.
Good, this isn’t sarcasm. I genuinely and happy that I could possibly own a Charger Daytona for half the price new. Are there better EV’s, absolutely. But are there EV’s that look like a muscle car, drive like one, and sound like an computer-generated one? Absolutely not. I don’t need the fancy luxury or Model S plaid speed or Taycan Turbo S track capability. I just want a big EV cruiser that can put a smile on my face when starting it, walking away from it and passing someone on the highway.
I literally just got one today on a 2 year lease for $368/month, $8000 down, 5000 miles a year. For the exact reason you listed. It's a goofball of a car and I could never justify it at its full price but as a third silly car with a TCO of less than $20k over two years that I can then just give back when I've had my fun? Absolutely perfect.
That's completely fair and one of the most level takes on this car I've read. It's absolutely not for me, but most people would consider the cars that are for me a waste of money too, so there's something to appeal to everyone.
It's been absolutely butchered in reviews, and it's trying to appeal to a market that just doesn't want an EV. Nobody should be shocked by these deep discounts.
Yeah, it's a car with no target audience.
Dodge/Mopars fans want V8 Hemis, and EV fans would never consider a Dodge.
Without the crazy discounts it's also outperformed at the price by many other EV's.
It's actually a great car. A muscley ev is a great idea.
The problem is it's just too expensive. A muscle car is supposed to be cheap.
So if they hesvily discount it fir army privates, it'll sell fantastically.
It's like the Hummer EV - people who want an EV don't want a muscle car, and people who want a muscle car don't want an EV, or a plug-in hybrid with an inline-six.
> It's like the Hummer EV - people who want an EV don't want a muscle car,
The Hummer EV might be a bad comparison because GM has sold a decent amount of those.
I mean even with the discounts it still performs like dogshit. The range is awful considering the size of that battery, it has a transmission tunnel in a EV, and does front wheel drive burnouts. Not exactly a product you can stand behind.
And instead of having the noise do fake gears, like the Hyundai N, like it should have, it just drones like it's in 4th gear and you're lugging the engine.
No wonder it's dead on arrival.
Agreed. The Ioniq 5N is a much better performing car, and for about $10k cheaper than the Charger Scat.
The no burnouts issue is pretty hilarious from the company which is formerly responsible for the Hellcat.
Stellantis screwed Dodge so badly.
Came here to say the same thing. People that bought those cars before, did so because they were big body V8s with a lot of power. Stellantis obviously doesn't know their customer base.
The 185 mile range in the scat pack with summer tires is an absolute joke. And it has a slow charging system.
It has the range of a car suited to be a daily city commuter while its mission is allegedly to be a muscle car you take to a track or road trip. I imagine on a track you would use up the battery in a couple laps if cruising only gets you 185 miles.
I don't think that they did any actual market research. People liked the Charger/Challenger because they were reasonably practical everyday cars that were affordable with a big-ass V8. They basically had an entire market that was willing to put up with their bullshit to get a hemi, they got rid of the hemi and now have nothing but bullshit left, and there aren't nearly enough fertilizer salesmen in America to make up that deficit.
“Let’s stop selling our two most successful car models in the last 30 years, and replace them with an EV hybrid version, surely people will flock to it by the DOZENS.” - Dodge CEO Probably.
I live in Atlanta, it might as well be renamed Atlanta, brought to you by: Dodge Chargers and Challengers.
I still don't see these things ever.
They really did not understand their demographic.
The Nissan Z seems to be a decent comparison. A struggling brand released a product that did not match or beat its competition in more ways than styling. Performance matters more for both vehicles, but neither measures up well enough to draw a significant share of the market.
> I'm struggling to think of any new-generation vehicle launch in the last two decades that is as even close to as much of a spectacular failure.
The Cybertruck, but that was more of an "answer to a question no one ever asked" type failure, and it definitely had ambitious design and engineering goals even if failed to meet any of them.
This failure was a little more predictable since the big, stupid, noisy engine was the whole reason people bought these cars in the first place. It would be like Five Guys getting rid of the beef in their hamburgers in favor of a fish filet.
If Dodge can’t make a reliable non-electric car. What makes anyone think that cranking the difficulty up 10x and going electric is going to work out well for anyone but the dealer who is the only one with the parts and tools? And dealing with ‘that’ dealer network is worse than Nissan. It’s enough to drive someone to driving a Ford.
I mean if Navistar switched from diesel to electric would anyone buy a motor from them willingly?
Worth buying at that price, just to fuck around with putting a hemi crate engine into. Hell, start a youtube series on the process and use the ad rev to try and recoup some of the cost.
Literally DOA.
The RT is almost $60K The Scat pack $74K.
This would be like if Harley Davidson a brand well known for leaking oil everywhere for 70 years decided they were gonna go out and create an electric motorcycle!
Oh shit no wonder this feels so familiar. It's like Deja vu.
Harley actually does not have an electric motorcycle. They used to though. The Harley Livewire was spun off into a separate publicly traded company a few years ago so they no longer have one.
Pay attention Ford and Chevy. No one wants an EV “Muscle Car”. EVs already have muscle, but they don’t have the charm and drama(sound) that people like.
If they made the Charger EV a different cat entirely (targeting a larger demographic) they would probably not be in this predicament.
As it stands this is a failure of a vehicle. Not even a few months from launch and dealers literally cannot give them away. At a 30k discount the dealer has to be losing money. The margins are on cars is no where near 40-50% lol
I feel like something fucky is going on here. In the article, there's a basic Charger Daytona listed for $30k. You click on the link and it takes you to a Cars.com ad for the car showing the price a $17k! Click through the link to the dealership's page and it's $56K. Something does not add up.
https://i.imgur.com/Sz1TRKc.png $30K in story
https://i.imgur.com/BxyjBG8.png $17K on Cars.com
https://i.imgur.com/G6K7WFQ.png $56K at dealership site
I wonder if they're pricing it to fall into the most popular price-range that's searched on those car sites?
I've seen that sort of thing before -- searches for vehicles "lowest price first" will show a bunch of brand-new vehicles with prices like "$1", "$389", "$5,000", where the price is either entirely made up, the monthly price after a certain amount down, or the amount down that they want before some ridiculously long lease / loan. Nothing to do with the actual price.
What an absolute dumb shit miscalculation this has been.
Who would’ve thought that a consumer base that is hyper obsessed with having the largest, powerful, loudest, gas guzzling engines on the planet wouldn’t want to buy an electric version of the same thing?
Will Chrysler/Stellantis whatever they’re called ever get their act together? How can you make such terrible products and business decisions for decades and still be around?
It looks like they combined every available rebate and incentive and subtracted it from the MSRP. But you can't get every rebate. Most are not compatible with each other. If you go to the dealers website the car is much higher priced
the small child in me would find it hilarious to figure out some way of hooking an extra subwoofer or two up to the exhaust so it was just even more incredibly rumbly, and then i'd go drive around and troll people fake revving my engine and making everyone's cars vibrate (like a car full of big subs blasting bass music)
Drove one yesterday theyre dope. Sorry not sorry. Same vibes as an ice challenger. WAY nicer interior. Fast asf. Regen braking was kinda meh. Hatchback is sweet. For mid 50’s low 60’s im considering the 4 door. One of the biggest mistakes they made was even selling a 2-door ev at all. That and the fact that tesla set the bar with hp / weight ratio and they didnt even try. Sick car though.
Charger EV Scat Pack that can do 0-60 in 3.3 seconds for $44,000, what a time to be alive
EVs providing a supercar acceleration at a much more affordable prices, but the downside is a lot of buyers who are in no business in being behind a wheel of these types of cars can now be in one is the threshold is lowered a lot
>Charger EV Scat Pack that can do 0-60 in 3.3 seconds for $44,000, what a time to be alive
Yeah but you're doing that in a package built by Stellantis. Driving like that is risky as it is, without adding in pig-iron brakes, dodgy reliability and cargo-ship grade handling.
You can get similar out of a nice turbo 6 or V8. It can also keep running all day instead of overheating the battery after a lap or a few runs. Much better value over this.
I don't love them or have ever thought of buying one. At the same time I see several online for under 40k. If I wanted a daily ev it wouldn't be the worst choice. Especially if it keeps dropping to 30k or so
I knew it was a major red flag when Dodge was promoting the old cars like crazy at the Mecum Auction earlier this year. These were nowhere in sight or even mentioned.
Ngl this seems like a great deal but also a huge risk. Both carvana and carmax won't offer a trade in value. Note not that they won't offer like they don't want it but rather they can't. If someone buys this car, it could have severe electrical issues and be worthless in a year or two. It happen to the fisker I believe. I am not saying this car won't be that way because Dodge is no Fisker but there seems to be a huge issue with this model.
I saw a few of these when I was getting my Jeep service. I had no idea they had even come out. The interior was a big improvement over the previous models, but the weird hood wing thing was weird. Also got to hear the fake exhaust noise! I can’t believe that’s real.
