Caused a big outage at work- how do I move forward?

If you get fired for something like this, it's not a company/culture you want to work in anyway. Learn from your mistake, double check your work next time, have a back out plan.

I just nuked my job with one command.. learn from this

Am I in the wrong for refusing to have have flock cameras installed by our city?

Yikes got it. I'm in Canada. Looks like a great way to have your camera's vandalized when people find out. We have a huge push of speed cameras going in here by the city and they're constantly getting wrecked.

Absolutely nothing wrong with what you're doing. Everything is negotiable but remember they also don't have to bend over and take it either. And if they think you're being difficult or causing problems then they will also be hiring for your replacement sooner than later. And yes, fuck HR.

How do I convince my peers that 16GB should be the standard amount of RAM for End Users?

Posted by AH_BareGarrett@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 636 comments

PAiN_Magnet@reddit

We have been adding ram to all of our 8GB laptops... Windows 11, Teams and Chrome/Edge you're running minimum 7GB. Now throw a couple Excel files in the mix.... Good luck.

Explain to me like I’m 5, why this is a bad idea…

Give them a separate local admin account with a different password. It's not ideal but at least their regular user account won't be privileged and the local admin won't have any domain impact.

CEO's gunna do what a CEO wants to do. It sounds like a small company or at least a small minded company. Complaining about it ain't going to do anything except get your ass on the naughty list. If you don't like it, move on.

Isn't this what they call quiet quitting? Doing the bare minimum to keep your job but in this case you have documented proof of the job not being performed. One issue is if you keep allowing this behavior from one individual, the rest of your team will get frustrated and start doing the same or leave.

Change password every 3 months or one super secure password?

Posted by voltagejim@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 502 comments

PAiN_Magnet@reddit

I feel like everyone is concentrating too much on dictionary and brute force attacks... I'm pretty sure the most common way a user gets hacked is when they literally give their password to the hacker by typing it into a fake login prompt from a phishing email... It ain't gonna make no difference how long the password is when the user just hands it over. Zero trust, Conditional access, MFA, etc is the only way.

Kinda dump question

Do you still have the box your laptop came in? I would suggest you pack it back up and send it back to the store because you're too stupid to own a computer.

We recently moved to 8x8 and I second what everyone else is saying, their support is terrible. But so is Ring Central, Telus, etc.. I have yet to come across a VoiP provider that has decent support. I don't think it exists.
