Single Sysadmin. Handle being out of the office

I am the sole sysadmin for about 75 users. A user in another department can handle minor tickets, like reboots, or unlocking user accounts, but that's the extent of it. Whenever I take paid time off, I almost always get phone calls about issues. Sometimes major, but most of the time minor stupid things. How do/would you guys handle that? Ask for more compensation? Ask the company to hire a backup admin? I understand that I am the only admin, but when it comes time for an annual raise, I need to fight tooth and nail for a measly 1% increase.
