1950's American Diner in Swadlincote/Church Gresley, Derbyshire usually doesn't disappoint, the relatively new owners did reduce the menu options when they used to be a bit more heavily into pancakes etc mind you.

Yeah, I'm used to getting meal deals at my local tesco so don't tend to pay attention to how overpriced the bottles/cans/iced coffees are. The other day I had already brought sandwiches to work so figured I'd go grab something nice and refreshing for a change from the water cooler. Even normal cans were £1.60 with most bottles over the £2 mark. Meanwhile on the other aisle I got a pack of 8 cans of apple tango for £2.75.

The lack of a camera is often the reason for targeting. So many houses now have them, the ones without noticeable ones are where they will target for the random "tiktok influenced pranks".

Can confirm, had a bunch of these idiots doing donkey kicks (turning away from the door then swinging their leg back as hard as they could) to my door on their way back from school. Caught the idiots on a repurposed old Amazon Fire Tablet I left facing down towards the path and set recording around they had done it the last 2 days in a row. Bought a Tapo and hub (online subscriptions only £2.99 a month) and that plus the evidence given to police of them in their uniform (making it super easy for the cops to go into the local school and get identities) finally stopped it. Worth noting that if they are doing it to you and you don't know them, they are probably already doing it elsewhere nearby so the police will be gathering evidence of a pattern.

Couldn't find a good link that wasn't to facebook, but Kalani Ghost Hunter and his kid trying squash for the first time's a bit of a classic. They pretty much did the ratio of juice to water the wrong way around. I can't imagine drinking 4x strength neat, it's bad enough if you just slightly under dilute it.

Not surprised Lincoln Castle was hard to take, can't imagine having to try and take on a castle after going up and down all the bloody hills there. Getting siege equipment up there would have been a real effort.

Could be worse. I spent a summer working in a warehouse unloading garments from trucks, the containers were being unloaded on the south facing bays...was like standing inside an oven during peak daylight hours on the back of those trucks. Our closest water source was about a 10 minute walk over to the other side of the warehouse. Absolutely no AC on the main floors, just the offices, zero fans, everyone was shuffling around like sweaty corpses by the end of shifts.

There's always roadworks and lane closures surrounding it. Every time I find a decent place to park the next trip I make there I find the roads are suddenly closed and I'm stuck on a new one way system. The ULEZ zone is very hard to avoid thanks to that.

Come for the night life, stay for the sugar daddies? Always remember visiting Brighton on a work trip in the early 00s, a guy on a skateboard wiped out in front of us and needed an ambulance. The hotel we came to look at as part of our tour of south east properties someone had covered the public toilet in faeces on every single surface. Last orders was called in a pub we spent the evening in, then about 15 mins later the music channel suddenly got switched over to porn. We bid a hasty retreat.

Why do we get no votes in the eurovision song contest?

What's the best wrong number phone call have you received?

2nd best. Albeit not for me. I was working 12 hour call centre shifts as an xmas job. Phone rang and I had the landline in my room for providing cable internet to everyone in the house (I was the techy so it made sense to have the lines come into my room and sorted out the router + switches for the house...ahh good old pre wi-fi days...) I answered the call and my brain instantly kicked into "Thank you for calling Game Co, how can I help? Currently we are taking....." yeah. that's when my brain remembered no, i'm not at the office I've been going to in the pre-dawn darkness and returning in the evening, I was at home, and this was an actual non-customer. "Is Rhonda there?" "yeah, i'll go fetch her." Cue howls of laughter on the phone. I went and got my housemate and left them to it. Apparently I was very professional sounding on the phone even if I did get questioned every time I answered for anyone else if I'd tried to sell video games to callers. Cheeky gits. Did have a rather awkward first time meeting the girl after this with her seeking me out at a houseparty to rib me about it, then again she said she could think of a few things I could "help her with"....

6:10 am. House phone went off in my good old student days of the early 2000's. A very hungover me answers the phone as it was driving me nuts and I was the closest room. "hi is karen there." "no, there's no one called that here, you must have a wrong number" and I hung up. I went to the loo seeing as I had now been awoken and last nights beer was pressing mightily. About 2 mins after this, the phone rings again. Same guy. He now starts swearing at me for having her phone number. I pointed out that either he was completely fat fingered and couldn't operate a phone to dial the correct number or she had clearly given him a wrong number on purpose. Better luck next time buddy. He did not appreciate either answer and said I clearly was covering for her and she didn't want to take the call. I said there's four guys in this uni house and most assuredly, none of us are Karen in an alter-ego and secondly, in what possible world did he ever think a girl whose number he got at kicking out time in the clubs would appreciate a call at 6AM the following day? He went a bit quiet and hung up. Apparently he attempted again in the evening. He got one of my less confrontational housemates and finally accepted that he had the wrong number after all. I did do a "who called me" and got him blocked by NTL after this.

The life of a spare parts royal is never particularly easy especially in modern times where it's a lot less likely your number will suddenly be called up, resulting in a bunch of spoiled 2nd sons that realised their usefulness was at an end as soon as more heirs were produced. Andrew got away with a lot of this simply because he was mummy's special little boy and protecting the family from scandal via money was the easy way out. I doubt Lizzy would have done half the things Charles has done once she was gone to cut out Andrew from the royal life.

An hour when I worked in city centres was fine as I could actually go out shopping and have a bit of a browse or even go to a gym if one was right next to the office. An hour lunch when I worked in the middle of the wilderness with only my companies cafeteria and the smoking shelter was interminable.

My partner hates the taste of plain tap water in our newbuild house, we have a lot of issues with limescale buildup. Was fine at her parents about 3 miles away (i think that ones more on her sensitivity, i'm quite ok with it in tea or just as plain water) In my office 15 miles away I can not make a cup of tea that doesn't taste absolutely awful due to the water softness.

There's also the fact that during peak times you often didn't get through to the takeaway, resulting in having to make multiple attempts just to get your order in, then get told as they are busy there's a bit of a wait. Now you just click on the app and get told there will be a 30 min delay and have only wasted long enough to open up the app (well designed apps start with pickup/delivery options to begin with)

At some point though, their going to prioritise either customers in the restaurant or drive thru or delivery...and delivery is the one they are most likely making the biggest profit on due to inflating prices for the apps.

There's something suspicious about the takeover of the high street stores, outside of changing the logo's to TG Jones, I haven't been in a single one that's made ANY changes to the business. Still the same worn out looking shops with at least 4 different types of flooring to patch up repairs per branch. I strongly suspect they will be "restructuring" and closing all non profitable branches as soon as they can.

In slight defence of Scunthorpe, it's hard to have a vibrant place when the town spent decades devoted to a single heavy industry that maintained probably 90% of the jobs in the area (either workers directly at the steelworks or supplying services/goods to those workers) Once all the decently paid jobs were gone from there and the steelworks started downsizing, there's suddenly a lot of people trapped in a town with absolutely no money circulating.

I remember seeing The Strokes at Leeds Festival in 2001, they were incredibly polished to the point where I wasn't entirely sure they weren't just playing a backing track. Fair play to them for actually getting the sound perfect, I've seen plenty of touring acts struggle to get the balance right for either several songs or their entire set. As I've got older I prefer a little more uniqueness in performances at a live gig with some crowd interaction mind you.
