Sorry but newer cars are better in every way thats not subjective like looks and driving feel. Theyre faster, safer, more efficient, and more comfortable. The love for cars such as the Mk IV Supra is actually just nostalgia. If these cars were so popular and drooled over even during their time, they wouldve made and sold a lot more.

Most of the time if youre suspected of dui its for alcohol, and they'll likely just use the breathalyzer at the station on you as proof. Unless they take your blood because youre clearly high as balls and not just drunk (or they take ur blood because they, or maybe you, think the breathalyzer is inaccurate)

How did cowboy culture get so big in America?

Posted by notabot-y@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 185 comments

Kenneth441@reddit

I apologize, my understanding of the word cowboy is probably a lot more stereotypical than yours. I frankly meant stuff like dude ranches, not the actual usage of horses in the cattle industry which I dont doubt is still a thing.

I interpreted his question differently. Obviously we still have a large cattle industry, I meant the romantic and modern interpretation of life in the Old West that is associated with the word cowboy. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cowboy_culture

Kenneth441@reddit

My interpretation of what OP meant when he said Cowboy culture is stuff like Woody from Toy Story. I mean not exactly obviously, but just that specific modern and romanticized version of life in the Old West - rodeos, vigilantism, etc. Not the modern cattle industry. I was actually recalling a random field trip as a kid where we went to this authentic Cowboy village and did stuff such as learn to lasso and what life in that era was actually like.

When you say Cowboy culture, youre probably just thinking of the lifestyle and traditions settlers adapted to when they moved out west into the wilderness beyond "civilized" areas. Real cowboys are those same settlers who just took up cattle driving jobs.

Why haven't hot SUVs taken the place of affordable performance sedans?

Posted by KSoMA@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 101 comments

Minivans are fantastically optimized for families but in terms of being able to do a little bit of everything a CUV simply wins. I can't take a Sienna offroading or for a drive in the snow the same way I could take a Highlander, which is unfortunate in America because much of the nation is rural and/or snowy. I also can barely tow anything in a minivan which is important to lots of people particularly in rural or surburb areas. And yes, minivans are lame as fuck in terms of styling and have a stigma as lame vehicles in America by now. While I agree that a minivan would be logically way more efficient for most people, most people value the things listed above way more than sheer efficiency. They need something bigger than a sedan/coupe and to also not feel like theyre Aunt Meemaw taking care of the kids for the day so mom and dad can have a date.

Yes its not practical unless you want extra leg room, extra cargo space, more ground clearance, and better visibility. Thats why crossovers are considered impractical and are one the of the rarest body types on the market.

Why not bring back Datsun?

I don't think Datsun has a good enough reputation for that. As far as I know, imports during Datsun's time were mostly hot garbage, and that was actually a major factor in the rebrand to Nissan anyway. Most people now have probably never heard of Datsun, and those that have (outside of enthusiasts who like the classic Z) are probably like my Dad who's experience with Datsun started and ended with a shitty pickup that had all kinds of electrical gremlins.

I'm not referring to the French resistance, I meant the actual French army units that fought. First, the troops that defied their government's surrender in 1940, (most famously at Dunkirk and elsewhere in France - but yes also in ethically and morally deplorable colonies), the various Free French units that [fought in North Africa](https://www.nationalww2museum.org/war/articles/free-french-bir-hacheim-1942) and elsewhere, and then later in the war the [French Liberation Army](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_Liberation_Army) which was a 500,000+ strong force of exiles that participated in Allied campaigns throughout 1944-1945.

Kenneth441@reddit

>Also, the famous French cowardice of their quick surrender to Nazi forces on June 22, 1940 after putting up onl token resistance to the Germans... This is literally not true. Even after the government in Paris surrendered, many French units continued to resist the occupation. A lot of colonies also defected to the Allied side. Hundreds of thousands of Free French were part of Allied armies in Italy, Africa, and of course France itself. By the end of the war, they were the fourth largest army in Europe right behind the three other main Allied powers.

I think it has to do with where we live, then. I live in Flagstaff AZ which has a speed limit of 30 through most of the town so it's hardly a biggie getting to speed. And whenever I visit Phoenix I stick to the suburbs, where the roads are so wide and well suited for vehicles that I'm rarely waiting for an opening in traffic for longer than like 30 seconds. >You also can forget ever trying to pass someone. I can feel this on the interstate, though. Driving between Flagstaff and Phoenix I'm either cruising or pinning the throttle to the floor to get 5 mph.

My 2015 corolla has an 8+ sec 0-60 and apart from going through steep uphills on the interstate, I've never actually felt like it was *too* slow. It takes way longer than 8 seconds to drive up an on ramp so it's not like I'm flooring it all the time either.
