What names from our generation do you think will never be used again?

That’s sweet that your dad gave you that name. I’m sorry the Internet and everyone has ruined it for you. It’s still a great name! I love any name that starts with a hard consonant.

Who here grew up knowing a Donna?

During the Middle Ages, John was the most popular name in the English-speaking world. To differentiate between so many people sharing the same name, the diminutive suffix "-kin" was added to the Old French/Middle Dutch form of the name, "Jan," making it Jankin. Over time, the "n" sound was dropped and it morphed into Jack.

You inspired me to look this up. Mental Floss says: Historically, people shortened Margaret to Meg or Meggy. Because medieval folks loved to rhyme and play with consonants, Meg was rhymed with Peg, which eventually evolved into Peggy. This playful rhyming convention is exactly how we ended up with many other classic nicknames, such as: Bob (from Rob via Robert)Bill (from Will via William)Dick (from Rick via Richard)

Found this in the supply room at work today. Younger coworkers blown away that you needed a cord this long. Well, we had to leave the kitchen & go around the corner to shut the door so no one could hear what we were talking about!

How many of you still have close friendships from high school?

I have a group of friends, there are five of us total, and we all became friends in either elementary school or junior high. Went through high school together. One of them and I went to college together. We all went our separate ways but sort of stayed in touch over the years. At our 30 year reunion, we all stayed together and now we travel together at least once a year if not more. We have a group chat and talk all the time. Zoom calls too! There’s nothing like friends that have known you forever. They accept you exactly who you are for better or for worse. We are all over the place on the political spectrum, different perspectives on life and religion. Some of the girls have lots of kids I have none. We are all very different, but yeah, our shared history keeps us bonded and together. It’s important to have people in your life that don’t share your political perspective in lifestyle. We help each other out in every way possible.

I just got so triggered by a Reddit comment😂

Does anyone else have a LOT of trouble enjoying shows/movies set in the 80s because they can’t get the hair right?

I wore a side ponytail with big tall bangs. I was a younger teen most of the time, but even in high school when I was a cheerleader, I would do that on occasion. For reference I graduated high school in 1989. I do agree with you that it’s a little overused and it’s on obvious signal. They’re trying to make the character be in the 80s, but I do think it was worn. At least where I lived in Southern California.

GLOW did a great job with the hair. But I agree most other shows do not! I’ve always wondered if that’s because the show runners of today think the hair was so ugly and bad that modern viewers won’t watch.

Birthday Plans for a Gen-X'r In His 50s Living Alone?

Go to a show and see some live music! Or sign up for music program at your local music store. At my Music store they put you in bands for a month and then we get to play a show at a local club. Find something like that to do. Happy birthday! I had big plans for my 50th also, and then Covid hit so it never happened. Make sure you do something! But I do argue due to consider asking some of your friends, even if they’re working if they can find some time to hang out.

On March 6, 1995 @ 146am, at age 24, I made this list of 100 Things To Do Before I Die. Here is the list

I think the only thing on that list I could probably achieve is milking a cow, and I would still need a farmer and a cow to show me how. You are an ambitious person! Good for you.

Vans. Fun fact: The Van Doren family were my neighbors growing up in the 1070’s. I remember my mom holding a fundraiser at the local school, and hearing her call him and ask if he could bring the boys. That meant they brought huge half pipes, all the skateboarders and BMX riders. Unfortunately, they were all boys, but now there are so many female writers!

Do you think the GenX is the lucky generation because we're the only generation that got to experience both analogue and the digital world?

I asked for Wonder Woman, and after a couple of years I was given Strawberry Shortcake! They are not the same! And the worst part was the strawberry shortcake ones had a bralette, and it was my first bra, and it was the first present I opened after dinner on my birthday in front of my dad and brother. I was mortified! I ran out of the room crying.

52 Male, moving back in with Mom.

I just ran into a high school friend of mine who is 54 male and recently moved back in with his mom who is 80 and suffering from some dementia. When I ran into him, he was taking her out to dinner at one of our favorite hometown restaurants. I hadn’t seen his mom since high school, but I have seen him many times over the years. His mother was so grateful! She told me over and over again, maybe due to the dementia, about how grateful she is that he was living with her and taking care of her. It was a beautiful thing. I wish you both all the best! She’s lucky to have you, and I bet you’re lucky to have her too.

We have been here 46-61 years. Would you rather be told you have 3 years left to live or die suddenly out of nowhere?

I don’t think about these kind of things at all. They’re inevitable, so why do I own them? It’s like grieving for my cat before my cat is even dead. Just enjoy every day and when the time comes, you’ll deal with what you have been dealt.

My brother and I are pretty close. We’re not gonna talk all the time but when we do, we talk about very real and deep things. We’re both taking care of my parents together, and helping to run their business together. So yeah, we’re close.

I know, right? Very different then today. With 24 hour cable news we hear every bad thing that’s happened to every child and now we don’t want to let them out of our site. For good reason! But it’s definitely changed life as we know it.

They are adorable! *Processing img nzil4iclzdwg1...* I’m adding a screenshot of a bunch of photos for anyone else that’s wondering about these cuties.

Oh, it’s a really good Barbie doll if it can go back together with no problems. I’ve had more than one that had a hip issue. In fact, now I have a little bit of a hip issue that acts up if I don’t get enough exercise, and I always say my Barbee doll leg didn’t go back on right.
