Who here grew up knowing a Donna?

Could be either a classmate, a friend of a friend, a fellow girl scout troop member, a fellow congregant, maybe a parent’s friend or coworker.

I honestly can't recall any close acquaintances or people at school named Donna. There were lots of Karens, Lisas, Rebeccas, Jennifers.
There was the 90s band The Donnas and they were hot as hell.

When I was 18, I worked at the Wherehouse (a record, tapes, cd and video store) with a Donna. One day, she and another coworker came in with red handkerchiefs wrapped in their hair, and jean overalls with no shirts. They stopped by to say hello and chat. The counter was raised as was I, at least mentally. It's a core memory. How could someone look so sweet, yet so um, wow.
After I left, I found out a co-worker - a great guy himself - married her. Genuinely happy he got the girl, at least for a few decades.

It me! I am Donna, and I embrace my boomer name. 1975 baby, my mom named me after two people: a cool roommate from before she was married, and her diabetes doctor -- because pregnancy with Type 1 diabetes was a fraught endeavor in the 1970s, I probably owe my life to this woman. Obviously a pioneer in terms of both her work and gender, and last I checked was still practicing medicine in her 80s!
The only place where being named Donna was an issue was when I was a student in Italy, because it really confused some people when they met a woman named "woman."
BperrHawaii@reddit
