How does banning a product enable IP theft? Did the US force DJI to assemble its drones in the US? Did the US require TikTok to hand over their source code?

Yes, I would agree. Except that happened before most of us were born and when China was one of the poorest countries in the world; we’re discussing recent events

Someone else addressed it well, but China has all of that and requires foreign brands to partner with a domestic manufacturer to sell to the country. Imagine if America told Hyundai that they needed to use Ford factories to build all their cars. In the case of China, it’s done to enable IP theft

It’s good for beginners, but it quickly shows its weaknesses when you have more than a handful of track/autox sessions under your belt. The B46 is great; reliable, makes decent power, and with an upgraded turbo can make 350whp with a few hundred lbs less weight than the B58. The eLSD isn’t a game changer but it does make the rear end feel more predictable. BMWs traction control and stability control is tuned great for the street and Sport+ is a good mode for the first few times out on a track. I run it with DSC fully off because, if i dont, bad pavement on track will cause the rear end to feel like it’s bouncing all over the place. The three main weaknesses to the F22 (both 4 and 6 cylinder) are that it doesn’t have nearly enough front negative camber, it cant fit enough tire under the wheel well for the weight, and that it doesnt come with an LSD. The 6 cylinder has the M Performance LSD as an option (and it’s actually better than most street car LSDs), but it’s hard to find and pricey on the aftermarket. Happy to chat more about the car if you have more questions; I’ve enjoyed learning on this platform but I’m switching to my Miata for next season.

Not nearly to the same scale. The US Government intervened to save the Big 3 to ensure they didn’t lay off hundreds of thousands of workers during the greatest financial crisis since the Great Depression; China is funneling money into specific sectors as part of a 5 year plan, with the goal to achieve dominance and make other countries completely reliant on their manufacturers (referred to in economics as “dumping”)

I agree with you completely. I’d rather have a decent shifter and a good clutch than a “bolt-action” shifter and a wonky clutch (looking at you Acura Integra)

\>which means the feel and what not were choices rather than outcomes from engineering Agreed, and you can say the same about the electric power steering; BMW could've made it good, but they chose not to.

Okay, thanks for clarifying; not sure why OP put "shifter" in the title then. The clutch feel, even with a CDV, is still better than most modern cars. The 1-2 shift is awful, but that's the same for any car with a CDV. I hated the CDV for awhile but grew to appreciate it when I started tracking my car. I don't have an LSD like you do, so I have to turn off all the nannies to get the eLSD to turn on and for the car to stop fighting me on track; doing that also has the unfortunate side effect of turning off active rev matching. Having the CDV means that even if I botch the clutch release, my transmission doesn't take as much of a shock.

I'd say it's the other way around; it starts as a bad shifter and Toyota put effort into making it feel good. The Z4 supposedly has similar changes made to make it feel better.

Are we talking about shifters, clutch feel, or all of them together? I liked the shifter and clutch in my buddies Mk. 7 GTI and in my Mk. 8 Golf rental I had in Europe. The shifter is better than what's in any BMW, but I don't think any BMW has a "bad" shifter I think all the Germans do clutch feel better than the Japanese, because the Accord 2.0T and Integra A-Spec manual I drove both had wonky clutches, where it felt like I never knew when the clutch would grab; never had those issues with any German car I drove, even though all of them use CDVs now. If you want a bad shifter, drive my dad's Suzuki Vitara. That's a truck transmission that feels like one.

My BMW shifter is mid, but I liked the Mk. 8 Golf shifter. The Germans also do clutch tuning better than their Japanese counterparts, excluding the Miata.

Direct injection is not a big enough change to call an engine all new. What reports show the Toyota 2.4 in the Tacoma to not be doing so well? This is the first I'm hearing of it.

If that’s the biggest difference, that’s not enough to say it’s all new. Look to the BMW N52 and N53 as an example of how an engine can have both port and direct injection for the same fundamental design

If you have any technical information that explains what changes they made to the VQ, I’m hear for it, but the best I can find is a [Wards Auto](https://www.wardsauto.com/news/archive-wards-nissan-goes-boldly-forward-with-new-frontier/795791/) post where they describe it as: >a competitive 310-hp naturally aspirated V-6 tweaked specifically for the Frontier with 93% new content. Idk about you, but I don’t consider a modified existing engine to be new. The Toyota 2.4 is a clean sheet design from this decade

I see 3x as many new Tacomas as I do new Frontiers. The ancient powertrain may be a plus for Redditors, but the ancient interior is so far behind what Toyota has in the Tacoma that it’s not even a competition over which car is the better buy

I just found the probably first advertisement ever for a proper Korean luxury car, ridiculously explicitly grasping after the German premium brands in the stars - with a Mitsubishi made V8.

As someone who really enjoyed Savagegeese’s video on Lucid, their review was almost entirely on the driving dynamics and didn’t touch on what it was like to live with. It’s entirely possible for a car to have sublime driving dynamics and shoddy reliability (ever heard of Lotus?)

Are you under the impression that they're driving to each track in their race suits, because that's now what I saw in the video. And I'm fully aware that the logistics of track days aren't fun, but having a fried to do it with makes it much more bearable. The dude I was replying to is just bitching because he's never done competitive motorsports and doesn't realize how little track time you actually get at these events.
