Do you want to be buried?

No funeral. I told my husband he can throw me out with the trash for all I care, but no burial. Cremate (but don’t hold onto my remains) or donate.

How early is too early to get to work?

I wfh and start whenever I wake up. My hours are typically 6am to 2pm, but I have been known to start at 4:30am if I am awake. Otherwise, I would just sit in my house waiting to start working. I will still end my day around 2pm though, so that’s on me. If I couldn’t get into my workplace early, I would not hang out in the parking lot though. I would probably go to a nearby park and go for a walk instead.

Nah. It’s more of I can do it online in 20 seconds vs being on the phone for longer. Same as a work email, but in that case it issues up 2 min of my time probably, but a phone call to relay the same thing ends up being at least 10-20 min. It’s a time saver. Let me get on with all the things I need to take care of. Now outta my way!

I hate making phone calls and would do the same thing. Sometimes if I can’t order online, I just won’t get food at a place either. I will not be happy to pay a ton of fees either.

Is anyone else reaching the "everything is too damn loud" stage of life?

I can’t do the bass sounds either, but it’s not a new thing for me. Even as a kid, I hated when the marching bands would go by in parades and the feeling I would get from those low bass drum sounds.

Spouse's 50th birthday is approaching. What did you want for your 50th?

Our birthdays are around Christmas. We rarely do anything for them. If we do, it might be a night away somewhere. When we turned 50, it wasn’t any different and was just another day.

How much are we vacationing?

We try to do one big trip a year for our anniversary that is usually 1-2 weeks long. Then, we do a 1-2 smaller trips, some weekend getaways and overnight stays that we can drive to. I am remote, so sometimes I do what I call workcations. Work in the day and some fun afterwards. Altogether, probably about 10 trips a year. All I want to do is travel, so I make that a priority and forego other things.

Question for the pet people...how do you feel about a new pet at this time of your life?

Posted by HammerMeUp@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 916 comments

We will probably always have pets. At the same time, for those of you relying on friends to take in your pets, just know it may not actually happen sadly. That’s how we ended up with one of ours. Her previous owner had cancer and a friend agreed to take both dogs in when she passed. The friend gave them to a rescue to find them homes and it’s how one found our way to us. The other dog also found a good home. The rescue separated them because the other dog was apparently a jerk to our dog sometimes.

I have been thinking about this a lot lately as my company is also going through changes. I want to try to work until I am about 60. Then, I would probably rent out my condo and do some thru hikes or some other less expensive travel options until I could collect social security or feel comfortable withdrawing from my 401k. I am trying to save up said fund to make it a reality. Hoping my plans are not foiled by an unexpected job loss.

I get a phone call almost every time my 22yo kid goes to the grocery store alone.

Yep, if my husband goes without me, he’s either texting me several times or gets the wrong things. It’s just easier to go together or by myself.
