How many Xennials truly have done no retirement planning, have no target retirement date, or have considerably less than you need to retire in your 60s?"

I’m making far less than I did 20 years ago, went through savings while unemployed for almost all of 2025 and had to pull out a bit from my 401k since everything is so much more expensive. I can either die, come into an insane amount of money (not likely), find a job that will actually pay me what I’m worth (also not likely since my field is getting decimated by AI) or work til I die. It’s really freaking bleak.

Anybody else starting over?

All these Hollywood movie remakes…

You’re not alone. It seems like they are phoning it in. Easier to do a remake and make some money vs coming up with a whole new idea.

Did you guys really dial in to radio shows to win contests? How did you even become caller 99 (or whatever)?

Posted by naalotai@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 673 comments

phdpinup@reddit

Yes! I actually won concert tickets for my parents as a surprise. I was underage so I had to get my mom on the phone and I ruined the surprise. She wasn’t happy- but my dad was! I think I called 3 times- the first 2 dials were a busy signal and on the third, they picked up!

Is there a song from the 80s or 90s that you absolutely HATE?

Dee-lite’s Groove is in the Heart and I’m Blue (Da Ba Dee) by Eiffel 65. Absolutely, positively cannot stand either song then or now.

Oof yes! Any time any Train song comes on I do a full body cringe and turn off the radio or try to hightail it out of the location.

Every day since has been hell.

Man I miss nap time. I distinctly remember it in kindergarten and rarely I’d actually nap. I’d love for mandatory nap time to be a thing as an adult.

Is it just me or were the Olympics a WAY bigger deal when we were young?

I was thinking about this too the other day. We would record the sports we wanted to watch and watch them over and over. It was always the highlight of the year for me when the Winter Olympics came on. Tbf, I still love the Winter over the Summer.

I cannot stand Pearl Jam. And Eddie Vedder just sounds like someone whining with marbles in the mouth. My hatred of them goes so deep.

How do you feel in your 40s, 50s and older after you and your spouse decided to not have kids?

Posted by nonmagnon@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 438 comments

phdpinup@reddit

Great. I knew parenting was not for me and I’ve never had a single regret. My partner is on the same page and honestly it’s so much less stress.

Did you play on one of these?

Posted by coloradotaxguy@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 1008 comments

Yes! Some teens burned ours down and the school quickly rebuilt it the same. They did it again, so it was rebuilt by the community. The last time the teens did it, they put in a monstrous plastic one. That again, the teens tried to burn down.

What’s your thoughts on the swing craze of 1997?

Posted by Superb-Donkey7202@reddit | GenX | View on Reddit | 1639 comments

phdpinup@reddit

I grew up on 30s and 40s big band and my grandpa, a Lindy Hopper back then, taught me to dance. Somehow I just missed out on the craze (all the clubs were 21+) but I’ve been in the vintage/rockabilly scene forever so I guess I’m still weirdly living it😅

My grandpa passed at Xmas two years ago at 98. Broke my heart. He was one of my best friends. My mom’s step mother is still alive, that grandfather passed 5 years ago yesterday. My grandma passed in 2018. I was very very lucky I got 40 years with them❤️

I saw this yesterday at work and told my coworkers. No one understood why I was sad. They kept saying 79 is old. It’s not old and it is sad. Diane Keaton is a legend and a massive part of my movie watching life. Gone way too soon😞

Do you think that most of us are in the middle when it comes to retirement and other savings, or is it more of a situation where some have a ton saved and some have almost nothing?

Posted by TypicalOwl5438@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 178 comments

phdpinup@reddit

I definitely started late, and with a layoff and months of unemployment I was forced to pull from my IRA. Right now I doubt I’ll be able to retire, but I’m hopeful I’ll find another job soon and be able to put more into my retirement and build up my IRA again.

Is Power Rangers a good line between Xennials and Millennials? I've seen people born in 83 say they hated it, but people born in 85 say they were fans of it.

Posted by Overall-Estate1349@reddit | Xennials | View on Reddit | 1204 comments

phdpinup@reddit

Hard agree. I’m ‘83 and I felt like this was for kids. Another commenter said they also feel that way about Pokémon and I’m going to agree there as well. My partner was born in ‘86 and he was into both of these, same with my sis born in ‘85.

Honestly, I know I watched it but I can't remember a single scene...
