Has anyone made a radical life change in your 40s?

I've reached a point where life feels incredibly stale and repetitive. Been in the same mid-west city for 20 years. Not much interesting stuff going on here. Mainly bars and churches. Very clique-ish and 'small town' minded. My friends just drink and talk about how cool they were in high school. Family is all of a very narrow small-town mindset. Considering moving out of state and starting fresh. Putting myself in a situation in which I have no choice but to grow. In a much prettier and active city at that. Anyone else out there done this recently? Or wanted to? Or made any other major life changes in mid-life? Please share your experiences snd any lessons learned.
