Posts you can smell! GAP's Grass was my favorite in College, along with CK One. I now think the latter's splashy !androgyny! marketing was ahead of its time.
you are my match!! Just commented about Gap's grass. I remember there were a few smells in the little silver bottles, but Grass was by far my favourite. There was also a lemon (sickly sweet imo)
i still have a bottle of gap grass. i collect perfumes. It’s actually not the parfum but a “body mist” that came in a white spray bottle. Last time I pulled it out and smelled it was probably 2017, when moving, it still was in pretty good shape! Heaven was and still is beautiful, I remember the day I bought it I was like 12, sprayed half the bottle when I got home all over my room 🤣 and Dream also transports me immediately to my bedroom at the time. I had that set of all the aluminum sprays, got it for Christmas. those I lost…
No WAAAAY! So cool! I just took my daughter to buy some ck one last month. She also listens to green day and nirvana. I'm like, is it 1994 again and am I raising MY 12 YEAR OLD SELF??? Lol
My signature around 2005 was a blend of body shop's vitamins e body lotion layered with Fahrenheit. Dear god i wish I could find that lotion again. I was intoxicating!
Where are my Bath and Body Works friends?! Started with Sun Ripened Raspberry, then went to Cucumber Melon, and then landed on Sweet Pea which is where I stayed until sometime in my late 20s.
They used to make scented tampons. I can’t imagine they were good for the natural flora. And I’m reminded of them every time I put a scented trash can liner in the bin
Summer , 1999, B&BW had a Limited Scent that was a yellow color and was a Tropical Island theme. I cannot remember the name of it to save my life, but it was THE BEST SCENT ever!! If I smelled it now, it would take me back.
It did have pineapple plus a couple more tropical fruits. One was passion fruit as well if I’m not mistaken. I have tried to find what it was for a couple years now via the google machine. No dice.
Those scents give me so much nostalgia as a man. I bought my wife sweet pea and the warm vanilla sugar? a few years ago because the smell of them kind of turns me on hahaha
Same. My first serious girlfriend. She asked me which I liked better, the raspberry or the vanilla, and then she wore raspberry every time I was with her.
Cucumber melon, sweet pea, freesia, and i think there was like an orange or peach one I loved too. Also enjoyed juniper breeze occasionally lol. I would absolutely douse myself in them 😂😂
I swear I can remember how that stuff tasted. It was so heavily sprayed all over the middle school gym changing room you couldn’t take a breath without inhaling it into your mouth.
(in tasteful, non marinated in, chemical warfare amounts....which now seems to be the bare minimum people use given how far away you can smell perfumes etc on people nowadays)
Only use non scented stuff now as I'm seriously allergic to perfumed/fragranced stuff (itchy eyes, throat, swollen lips you name it)
I found some old Finesse travel size bottles recently and they smell amazing! I'm guessing it was discontinued because I can't find a full size anywhere.
I know that the smell of Finesse would take me straight back to being jolted awake by the shower at 5:30am, to make sure I had time to straighten my hair before school.
I just bought my 12 year old daughter some ck one! She listens to green day and nirvana, too. I'm like, what is this 1994??? And am I raising...MYSELF?!? 🤯
Coolwater! I wore it from middle school into my early 20s. A barista I liked commented that she liked my cologne as it reminded her of her high school boyfriend. I stopped that day, knowing I needed to grow up. Switched to Armani Code, but I still love me some coolwater.
Same! Middle school Liz … maybe 9th grade too? I think I had a brief stint with Sandlewood essential oil scents when the grunge era started … then everything is a blur LOL … I wonder why 🧐
I will switched between this and the little puck-shaped Hilfiger perfume that was like turquoise color but I can't remember which one it was and can't find it anywhere -it smelled HEAVENLY!!!!
I still wear it. I love it. My sister used to work for Clinique and she said they spend no money promoting it because they don’t need to… it’s that popular.
Oh my God. The first woman I ever lived wore Sundlowers. It still takes me to the year we spent together anytime I smell it. It's still one of my favorite scents.
I still wear Acqua di Gio to this day. It's been my signature scent for the last decade. Before that it was Tommy (Hilfiger).
Omg. I’m triggered.
I went to summer camp with a girl who had a broken leg. Her foot to knee cast was smelly so she doused it in Sunflowers.
The memory of that scent mixed with smelly cast is now rushing back to me. 😂
Elizabeth Arden. Unforgettable. I got the Nike Airs with the name down the side because I told my mom I would play the whole season of basketball if she splurged on this “ONE PAIR OF SHOES”… Then, they stank so bad, of sweaty gym feet, half way through the season… So I did the obvious—sprayed 10 squirts of Sunflowers in those bitches AND BAM! I will never, ever, get the stank of my 7th grade bball shoes plus Sunflowers out of my brain. Disgusting!
Came here to say my middle school crush wore Sunflowers and I always picture myself floating from the ground with the scent pulling me by my nose like in a Looney Tunes cartoon. (Or Tiny Toons for my real ones.)
hahaha I was also a stripper for a bit around 2004-ish. Can also confirm, this is the most accurate description, with a hint of "I'm working my way through college."
I remember this scent just gaining popularity right when I started oral BC for the first time and had the side effect of “morning slickness” and the smell of Love Spell just sent me over the top and made me want to barf. And the smell was everywhere.
Body shop vanilla and this three dollar children's perfume from Walmart that smelled like cotton candy. Sounds bad, but people were constantly asking me what it was. I miss that stuff.
Loves Baby Soft, Exclamation and CK One. All at different points in my life. Also, where’s Electric Youth? Or am I showing too much Gen X when that one?
A friend had a bottle of Drakkar Noir and my 13 year old brain thought it was the manliest smell on the planet. It gets made fun of now so it must have been horrible.
yeah it goes bad. i found an old bottle of dkny and put it on and i found out why my mother smelled bad when she put on perfume to go out. i smelled exactly the same way when i put the 25 year old stuff on.
Yes, fragrances can go bad. The fragrance oils can go rancid. The alcohol can evaporate and fundamentally change the formula. Chemical bonds break down over time. Some formulations last longer than others. Do a test spray and let it set for a while if you aren't sure.
I just wrote to another poster that I found Drakkar noir at Macy’s and I was like oh my God I gotta smell it! And it really smelled bad lol I was the same as you in high school about that scent
My dad started wearing Brut cologne when he was in Vietnam. He wore it up until he died in 2022. He also always showered with Irish Spring.
The second I smell either of those scents, it makes me miss him so bad. Needless to say, they are banned in my house, the same as White Shoulders perfume, which my mother in law always wore until she died in 2023, 5 months after my dad. Neither my husband or I can bear it yet. We were very close to each other's parents.
Omg I remember Irish spring in my shower all the time! If I ran out of my bath and body works… Irish spring it was! Haha! And if the herbal essence was all gone it was Pert shampoo and conditioner! Hahah!
My girlfriend at the time loved it, so I wore it. I wear a different cologne (when I wear any) now because it's what my wife likes. I don't know why, I've never worried about smelling good, I've only really concerned myself with smelling clean.
Ha ha. No. I was a hippie, and learned towards the arts crowd. After high school, and The Grateful Dead disbanding, I leaned more into the arts. I would say I was adjacent to the Docs and kids in black, though.
Mane 'n Tail shampoo and unscented Speed Stick deodorant.
I couldn't tolerate any strong scents. Even my dad's Aqua Velva was unbearable when he first put it on. I only found out last year that I'm autistic. Go figure.
I found a couple bottles on clearance at Stein Mart back in the day after Dior discontinued it and bought them all. Sold a round bottle on eBay 10 years ago for like $150 which really surprised me!
Issey Miyake L'eau d'Issey Pour Homme - Eau de Toilette - for some reason the pour Homme Version was much nicer than the female one.
Takes me on a trip down memory lane.
Exclamation and Malibu, eventually Cool Water... my teen son just started wearing Drakkar and it cracks me up the amount of nostalgia that hits me when I catch a whiff 😂
Haha, my friends and I sampled men's cologne to test what one of read in a magazine.
I had a small sample of drakkar not. Dabbed a tiny bit behind my ears. So many compliments from guys.
I was too big of a neo-hippie girl back in the day for Tommy Girl, but I’ve been getting into affordable retro fragrances lately- I literally just this week bought my first bottle of Tommy Girl. It’s so pretty! And it smells like 90s teen magazines!
I was allergic to most perfumes and found they all stank, but this one was the only one that worked for me and I actually loved, while my friends were covering themselves in patchouli.
I once wore this to a bar in 2012 and one of the women there was obsessed, she couldn't believe how good it smelled. I still have a bottle and will wear it occasionally (or CK One) when I'm feeling nostalgic.
I still wear Preferred Stock because my wife and I have been together since high school, she loved it then, still loves it now, and it reminds her of that time in our lives.
In 7th grade I accidentally kicked a hacky sack into a trash can at school before a dance. It was my favorite Grateful Dead one. It was perfectly bled and broken in and just had the best action off my Airwalks. It landed in a cup of garlic butter from Papa Johns. I tried to clean it in the bathroom but it still smelled terrible. A friend suggested I spray some Joop on it since she had it in her purse. So I did. And boy what a mistake that was.
I threw the hacky sack back into the trash. I can still smell the mix of Joop and garlic when I think about it. Still pissed about it 30 years later.
Estée Lauder Beautiful Sheer, I am still on the hunt for something as good. I am a migraine sufferer and so so so so picky without it being my own choice.
I have bought so many scents with overlapping notes but I am still not there! The closest I have found is Chloé by Chloé.
I don't have the money to splash out fully on the really expensive supposed dupes without proper sniff and wear tests.
When Charlie White came out there was a phone number you could call for a sample and I got mini vials of White, Red, and Charlie. I liked White the best but saw the appeal for Red.
Honestly, Chanel #5. I smelled and tried it as a very little girl and never looked back. I was 7 smelling like a Hollywood broad and loved it. I still wear it today.
Because of the IFEA regulations many ingredients are now illegal to use IJ perfumes in the EU, and only “safe” ingredients (mostly synthetic) are allowed. This regulation was pushed by the fragrance lobby who now have a much larger share in producing synthetic aromas for the perfume industry (Firmenich, Govaudan and Symrise). This is also the reason why there are so many “new formulations” and why perfumes smell different compared to the same brand/name 25 years ago.
CK One for me and for my husband: Davidoff Cool Water.
We still wear them to this day. Old habits die hard I guess but we've been together for 23 years now so maybe we don't want to break the smell spell!!! 🤣
Dune for Men. Can't get it anymore. Wish you could get a Parfum strength one as the og Dune didn't have much staying power. A Dupe brand does an OK version but it's not the same...
New West. Have no idea who made it but smelled it once in a Dillards back in the 90s and absolutely loved it! Bought it and then it was discontinued but I found it many years ago at an Ulta. Still have it 🤗
Eternity for men by Calvin Klein. One girl told me I smelled good, wore it for the next 10 years.
Hell that's why I STILL use Old Spice Aqua Reef for the past 20+ years. The first time I wore it, a girl hugged me in my 20s and was like "damn you smell good". Never changed.
The original Gap lineup of Heaven, Dream, Grass, Day and Earth weee amazing. It was 1996 and I was working at Gap when they launched. Om, So Pink and Gap Blue came later in the 90s. Most of them came as lotions and soaps as well. I loved the grass scent. And I wore Gap Blue for years as well as Banana Republic’s Man which almost was a dupe for the original Dolce and Gabbana pour homme. Oh those were the days.
I wore this, in college! Kinda expensive for the time, good thing my summer job paid well! I think it was 40 dollars back then which is over 90$ today!
I am a woman btw not sure what a cologne for men was all about. 😂 I liked obsession for men but on men, also Drakkar Nior was always a thing.
I used to have a steady supply of the Yankee Candle Midsummer’s Night which smelled just like Drakkar!! Does anyone else remember that and buy that single one????
Liz made me sneeze like crazy. i had a coworker who wore it, and she also wore th only black eyeliner on the bottom of her eyes and i did not like her, but also, her purfume made me sneeze like 5 times in a row every time until i walked away. nope to that smell.
I wore “JOOP!”. My mom had to bring it back from the States because I was obsessed with it after a perfume ad in a magazine (honestly wish we still had those haha).
Anybody remember that cologne that came in like, a stubby plastic Windex bottle? It was all the rage at my high school circa ‘99, but everyone seems to have forgotten about it.
Hmmmm. Thats closer than anything I’ve found, but I remember it having an actual trigger pump like a regular spray bottle. The bottle itself was more squat, too.
Lmao YAH but mine was Marlboro Reds (with a side of eu de Bud Light). Later college years, Parliaments made a case for my signature scent … we thought they were so smoooooooth and even though they were $2.50 a pack instead of 2 bucks for Marlboros, we splurged!
I quit back in '06 or '07 after being really disappointed in myself when I had to sprint through an airport to hotbox a smoke so I could catch a connecting flight. It was just embarrassing to need something that bad.
But we moved a couple years after and I remember getting the clothes hanging at the back of the closet, they'd been washed at the time mind you, just hanging up unworn for a few years - and I was surprised how strongly they still smelled of smoke. It is a nasty smell that just lingers over everything. I'm glad you quit, too.
Oh man—I dated a good for nothing guy who wore Polo and smoked Camels when I was in HS and he was 19. The smell still brings back memories of being young and free!
Charlie White was the only floral of its kind to not give me a head ache! (Also - but found later - Benefit's Maybe Baby.) And was at the drugstore for $18, which in the late 90s in my teens, still felt a little fancy and "expensive!" My mom complemented it on me, then straight up laughed at the thought of a cheap Revlon perfume smelling nice to her. The other Charlie iterations were so 80s; huge and heavy.
Tommy Girl or Ralph Lauren Romance… there was also a Victoria’s Secret body splash that was green and smelled like sweet coconut. Like Sugared Coconut or something, and I wore that all the time.
Great taste! I actually used to steal my older sister’s Ralph Lauren!! Core memory unlocked! She was 10 years older than me still living at home with an adult salary, no rent and VERY cool things!
I got Curve as a teen and that was my first "real" perfume, vs Bath & Body Works body spray.
I wore a lot of different scents over the years, but my top ones were BBW sweet pea, VS love spell, Curve, Elizabeth Arden Red Door Revealed, Elizabeth Arden (?) Green Tea (I loved this one, it was light and refreshing and sweet), Britney Spears Curious....now I only have one perfume (Boyfriend) but still occasionally use BBW sweet pea
Armani still to this day. I had a girl who lived in my building during college drunkenly tell me I needed to take my clothes off so she could smell me better.
I was all about the CK One, with the occasional spritz of Tribe. I was long out of junior high before I realized it was the Tribe that caused my migraines 🤦🏽♀️
Om from The Gap. I was so, so bitterly upset when my tiny little EDT went through the washing machine. It didn't leak, but it did somehow fill with water. I'm just grateful I found it before it went in the dryer.
My first girlfriend had something: I have no idea if it was her shampoo, deodorant, a perfume; I just didn't think anything of it at the time do I never inquired...
But to this day, I'll get a random whiff of Mel's whatever it was, and my heart just drops out.
In high school it was Exclamation. So much exclamation!!
Then I switched it up to Charlie Express - still mad about the bottle that my then new BF's girlfriend stole from me as I never found it again after that. (TBF, he told me they broke up. Apparently he hadn't told her that yet so she wasn't happy finding my stuff in his room😬).
Then it was either BBW cucumber melon or VS Love Spell.
Gap’s Dream when I was in HS. Before that it was Exclamation! My older, much cooler cousin, had some Exclamation and I wanted some too. I hated it lmao. Dream was sooooo good tho
I wore Vanilla Fields, then moved to vanilla oil bc I started getting migraines. I used to have a bottle of old school Fahrenheit on my dresser though and wore it sometimes bc I liked a more masculine scent.
Drakkar and I would steal it from my older brother. Quick spray before getting on the bus… ladies line forms to the right, is what I would say but I put too much on.
I rotated between "Electric Youth", "Vanilla Fields", and "Sun Moon Stars". I still have a bottle of "Sun Moon Stars", that is a little strong, but still smells good!!!
I only remember the skincare line many of us probably started using around the same time a couple of decades later, that's also an industrial/EBM project, Youth Code.
my first boyfriend wore this and it was the most beautiful thing I ever smelled. I could cry thinking about it, the most precious of memories…this was a rare one, never knew anyone else who wore it besides him.
Being a boy, my mom encouraged me to use Drakkar Noir. I didn't particularly like smelling like a Western-European car crash, so I still have nearly all of it.
I LOVED Exclamation, also Baby Soft. Lasted me through high school. Next came ck 1 and the gap Dream and Heaven. After that, Sunflowers . Issie miyake (spelling) and then, I obsessed over Angel for men amen (I didn’t care for women’s version) that became my scent until I married and had a baby, Chloe and different variations from there on forward.
As a kid it was baby soft and Debbie Gibbons electric youth (?) perfume. As a 9th grader CK1 then rapture by Victoria’s Secret in college, then Sarah Jessica Parker Lovely to now: YSL Mon Paris
I hated NKOTB until I saw them in concert. I went to see Tiffany who was opening for them. I was too young to understand that an opening act would be really short. She was okay, but I left that concert OBSESSED with those boys!
I think it was neon pink and I’d set it on my dresser next to my Kirk Cameron poster 🤣 me and ol Kirk don’t see eye to eye any more but 8 year old me thought he was a smoke show
I've heard children often have first crushes on the most bland, non-threatening, safe seeming people. Explains boy band popularity. And Debbie Gibson, I suppose. Execs know what they are doing when they force young artists to be as neutral as possible.
Oh Jordon Knight, bland enough for even my most skittish of hearts. I didn't even like NKOTB, just Jordon's kissable face, lol.
I remember! It was the first perfume I ever owned. There were two different bottles and I had the long skinny cylinder. I think the other one was rectangular.
Dune by Dior then Ralph Lauren Romance and sometimes Clinique Happy. I loved Dune, but I had issues with my hormones that changed the smell and made it smell musty.
I also wore Elizabeth Taylor White Diamonds for special occasions until my husband had an awful manager who wore it. He found a great job in college that worked with his part time schedule until graduated because they wanted to hire him full time. The woman worked there.
I also got Salvador Dali Dalissime when I went to France as a college freshman. My former high school French teacher was my mom’s and my guide, and we were invited to stay with a French family my teacher knew.
The family had a daughter my age who wore Salvador Dali Dalissime. It smelled so good so I bought a bottle in Paris. It was kinda like Dune with a sweet apricot scent. The bottle is really cool too so I still have it.
There was also a freesia body spray I loved that I think was Bath and Body Works.
I also loved L’Oreal the Cool Scent for hair freshness I found in the shampoo section.
I took photography and spent a lot of time in the photo studio working with developers. You could also be around cigarette smoke that would mess up your freshly done hair. I also worked at the airport my dad managed. This stuff was awesome.
My husband still wears CK One. It smells so good on him, and I’ve become allergic to ones he’s used before
The first bottle of CK One was mine, but it didn’t smell as good on me as the other perfumes.
I am now allergic to apples and oranges so I can’t stand a lot of perfume and cologne. The one I really like now is Jo Malone Sea Salt and Sage.
My husband used to wear Van Cleef & Arpel Tsar, but I started getting hives from it.
He uses Suavecito hair pomade, and it smells so good it makes me weak in the knees.
I remember dousing myself in vanilla body splash because I read somewhere that girls that smell like snack food are perceived as more attractive. It backfired pretty consistently when I ended up always smelling like Black&Milds and getting called in to the office for smoking even when I wasn't.
got this as a gift once. wasn't too bad, but my romantic partners preferred cool water and Tommy. I think I had a stint with crush curve for a moment - it had this crazy citrus note that I absolutely loved.
I have literally always used old spice. As a kid that’s what my dad always had and I liked it, so for a hand full of years growing up I would always get those like gift packs for Christmas. I acquired enough of them to last for 20-30 years. I’ve literally only my last bottle or cologne and after shave. 😭
I found my last bottle a few years ago and without considering how old it was, I sprayed myself down. Only then did I realize that the years had not been kind and I was now covered a serious funky stench. It was so bad I had to shower and change clothes and I ended up being late for work.
Yea I still have a little bit of Ralph Lauren Romance for Men in a bottle from maybe a quarter century ago now. That was my favorite by far but my wife doesn't like any cologne so I stopped wearing it ages ago.
Revlon’s Fire & Ice. Most perfumes gave me a headache but Fire & Ice didn’t. It was all I could afford my freshman year of college. I wonder if they’re still around. Lol
My mom worked PT at Dillard’s when I was in high school. When I graduated her coworkers hooked me up a Polo duffel bag with a bunch of colognes. I think the Polo Sport ended up being my favorite.
Freshman year they gave us all care packages and the guys got tester bottles of cologne. You could always tell when there was a party or event on campus because the entire dorm would smell like Cool Water.
Oh so many! I had the Loves Baby Soft (there was a whole collection), Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, Tommy Girl, and all of the Gap scents (I worked there too).
I have been trying to identify the damn cologne. No amount of Google, AI chat, or eBay searches is resulting in it, and I, like a dumbass, cannot remember the name.
It came in a round, 5% transparent purplish-black bottle that had a wide base and curved swiftly into a narrow neck. It came in a cylindrical box like a fancy wine with a form fit felt inner base, and the smell was somewhere between a musk and a spice. My lame brain says it started with the letter P, but fucked if I know.
I recall getting it around 1995. I can't even say I remember the smell... but I recall thinking it was divine at the time. It might have also helped that I was a teenage bar lurker and the cologne literally had one woman burying her nose in my neck. I discovered something about myself that day.
Coty Wild Musk Oil. It came in a little brown glass bottle with a wand thing attached to the lid to dab it on. I wish they still made the oil. Smelled so good
My grandma knew I loved it, so she gifted me a bottle for my birthday every year (miss you Nanny!). It took me ages to go through a bottle, so I had a stockpile for a while. It’s been discontinued now, but I still adore the scent; I’m just not willing to pay $100 on eBay for another bottle.
Drakar was my 1st one in elementary. Jr high was Obsession, Eternity and Cool Water. High School was Tommy, Clinique Happy and surprisingly what I got the most complements on was a fragrance by Lucky Brand. College was full on Aqua Di Gio and Dolce & Gabbana. Guess I didn’t have a signature scent. Now I wear Prada Luna Rossa and Chanel Allure Sport.
American Spirits when I first hit college and found out that I could get a carton for super cheap through some sort of internet thing, and that each one took like 3x longer to smoke than a regular cowboy killer.
But I quit smoking in '99 and today I can't even imagine how I could afford to do it back then, let alone now.
It was uncanny and appeared to only work on me, but for some reason, one spray of "Aqua di Gio" and one spray of Lucky Brand's "Lucky You For Men" seemed to smell quite wonderful. Now I can't even go into the fragrance aisle of a store without getting a migraine.
Mostly just deodorant and goldbond medicated powder.
However, I loved the way Brittany Spears' curious smelled. I bought a half lip gloss/half perfume ball roller wand at Marshalls in 2005. I thought it was the cleverest little thing.
Lagerfeld...which I didn't know the name of until I checked the bottle that I still have, 30 years later. I kinda stopped ever wearing cologne after I got married.
I wasn’t able to wear most of these (looking at you hard exclamation!) because my mom had severe asthma. I wore ck one though a lot because it was softer.
Drakkar all the way. I recently found an old bottle from the mid 90s in a box of random crap of mine that had been in a crawl space forever. I tried it out again, and wow does it smell bad. Reminds me of old-man cologne.
I remember picking up a perfume called Controversy and making it my signature because the name was so cool. Not that anyone was likely to have known the name...I doubt anyone has heard of/will remember it lol.
Good taste!!! I wore the female version of that in my 20’s in the 2000’s . I don’t remember what it was called … and by female version I mean clearly the bottle had female anatomy!
I can smell this post and it makes me physically ill. I was gifted Exclamation and Electric Youth (or whatever the Debbie Gibson fragrance was called) and I tried to wear them but all those scents make me gag and have breathing issues. 🤷🏼♀️
I worked as a prep cook since age 15. No matter how much I washed, girls said my hair smelled like kitchen grease. So.. kitchen grease and hair gel was my signature.
YES I had one of the fancy glass bottle ones! I actually never used it because it was "too special" (dumb, I know 😂). I only used my plastic bottle spray and the lotion!
I wore CK One and Tommy Girl in high school. If a guy wore Tommy, I practically floated behind him like a cartoon character smelling a pie cooling on a windowsill. 🤤😍
I never really used aftershave or others scents, however I do remember wearing cologne and perfume seemed to be much more of a thing back in the day. I feel like hardly anyone wears a fragrance these days. That is a good thing to me, they always made me gag, even the ones I though smelled nice.
Elizabeth Arden Sunflowers, or some of those Auric Blends perfume roll-ons (Night Queen, Amber) that head shops and hippie stores carried. My boyfriend at the time wore Eternity for men.

Posts you can smell! GAP's Grass was my favorite in College, along with CK One. I now think the latter's splashy !androgyny! marketing was ahead of its time.

I loved Gap Grass
LifeFantastic123@reddit
Same!
littlesisterofthesun@reddit
you are my match!! Just commented about Gap's grass. I remember there were a few smells in the little silver bottles, but Grass was by far my favourite. There was also a lemon (sickly sweet imo)

YES, those metal bottles.... I swoon
MissMelines@reddit
i still have a bottle of gap grass. i collect perfumes. It’s actually not the parfum but a “body mist” that came in a white spray bottle. They used to make scented tampons. I can’t imagine they were good for the natural flora. And I’m reminded of them every time I put a scented trash can liner in the bin
LilMissnoname@reddit
OMG yes...so gross. I forgot that was a thing.

CherokeeTrailHeather@reddit
Summer , 1999, B&BW had a Limited Scent that was a yellow color and was a Tropical Island theme. I cannot remember the name of it to save my life, but it was THE BEST SCENT ever!! If I smelled it now, it would take me back.
Far-Veterinarian6465@reddit
Was it the Pineapple one?
CherokeeTrailHeather@reddit
It did have pineapple plus a couple more tropical fruits. One was passion fruit as well if I’m not mistaken. I have tried to find what it was for a couple years now via the google machine. No dice.
Mysterious-Ganache-7@reddit
Sun ripened raspberry was my go to! And CK1 when going out.

Pearberry was my jam!
disgirl4eva@reddit
Pear berry was good. I loved Herbal Mist. Was so bummed when they discontinued it.
Golden_Enby@reddit
Cherry Blossom was/is a great scent, too. It was my sister's favorite for years.
disgirl4eva@reddit
I love Cherry Blossom! I bought a ton of bottles after I found out they were discontinuing it.
JPhrog@reddit
Those scents give me so much nostalgia as a man. I bought my wife sweet pea and the warm vanilla sugar? a few years ago because the smell of them kind of turns me on hahaha
Rob_LeMatic@reddit
When I was 16 a girl pavlov'd me with the raspberry.
After we broke up, smelling it made me think of the line in Spaceballs when they jammed the radar. Raspberry!
ShillinTheVillain@reddit
My girlfriend sophomore and junior year exclusively wore Sun Ripened Raspberry and smelling it now is instant nostalgia
Rob_LeMatic@reddit
Same. My first serious girlfriend. She asked me which I liked better, the raspberry or the vanilla, and then she wore raspberry every time I was with her.
Aprils-Fool@reddit
I finally landed on Pearberry.
eternallysantanasass@reddit
Pearberry smelled so delicious
novelnoodler@reddit
Started with Sun Ripened Raspberry but graduated to Juniper Breeze cuz I thought I was grown with discerning tastes moving from 7th to 8th grade.
jedi_amy@reddit
Same here!
tigglypuf@reddit
I loved Juniper Breeze! I’d still buy it if they brought it back
Mission_Spray@reddit
Everyone talks about cucumber melon, but that sun ripened raspberry was all the rage at my school.
jedi_amy@reddit
Sun Ripened Raspberry was my signature scent! 🙌🏻
Seeka00@reddit
Plumeria, I miss that stuff 😭

lizziekap@reddit
I somehow know how all of these smell. Like, as you went down the list I was like, yep. Yep. Yep.

Cucumber melon, sweet pea, freesia, and i think there was like an orange or peach one I loved too. Also enjoyed juniper breeze occasionally lol. I would absolutely douse myself in them 😂😂
shadow_pico@reddit
I would snag a spritz of whatever my friend had in her bag in high-school. I do remember having the Country Apple set. I loved it so much!
lisette729@reddit
Mine was country apple->sun ripened raspberry ->dolce and gabana light blue
RhubarbGoldberg@reddit
Omg, I followed this same trajectory, yesssss.
I wonder if I would hate the scents today. In my memory, i loved those scents, but idk how my 2026 nose would feel.
NotMe739@reddit
Whatever they have that has apple scent in it. My favorite was the short lived New York big caramel apple scent.

PearSuitofHappyness@reddit

Elizabeth Arden. Unforgettable. I got the Nike Airs with the name down the side because I told my mom I would play the whole season of basketball if she splurged on this “ONE PAIR OF SHOES”… Then, they stank so bad, of sweaty gym feet, half way through the season… So I did the obvious—sprayed 10 squirts of Sunflowers in those bitches AND BAM! I will never, ever, get the stank of my 7th grade bball shoes plus Sunflowers out of my brain. Disgusting!
rialucia@reddit

Yes, fragrances can go bad. The fragrance oils can go rancid. The alcohol can evaporate and fundamentally change the formula. Chemical bonds break down over time. Some formulations last longer than others. Do a test spray and let it set for a while if you aren't sure.

My dad started wearing Brut cologne when he was in Vietnam. He wore it up until he died in 2022. He also always showered with Irish Spring.
The second I smell either of those scents, it makes me miss him so bad. Neither my husband or I can bear it yet. We were very close to each other's parents.

I was too big of a neo-hippie girl back in the day for Tommy Girl, but I’ve been getting into affordable retro fragrances lately- I literally just this week bought my first bottle of Tommy Girl. It’s so pretty! And it smells like 90s teen magazines!
WendyPortledge@reddit
I was allergic to most perfumes and found they all stank, but this one was the only one that worked for me and I actually loved, while my friends were covering themselves in patchouli.
According_Love2510@reddit
It was me- I was your friends who were covering themselves in patchouli. Apologies to you and to Tommy Girl 😆
WendyPortledge@reddit
😂 It was the fact that it would penetrate the seatbelt and last forever! Lol every time I smell patchouli it brings me back to that.

Illustrious-Low3948@reddit
Because of the IFEA regulations many ingredients are now illegal to use IJ perfumes in the EU, and only “safe” ingredients (mostly synthetic) are allowed. This regulation was pushed by the fragrance lobby who now have a much larger share in producing synthetic aromas for the perfume industry (Firmenich, Govaudan and Symrise). This is also the reason why there are so many “new formulations” and why perfumes smell different compared to the same brand/name 25 years ago.

Charlie White was the only floral of its kind to not give me a head ache! (Also - but found later - Benefit's Maybe Baby.) I've heard children often have first crushes on the most bland, non-threatening, safe seeming people. Explains boy band popularity. And Debbie Gibson, I suppose. Execs know what they are doing when they force young artists to be as neutral as possible.

TheVexingRose@reddit

Back in the 90s I wore Tommy, Polo Sport, Realm, Obsession, and CK One. I still have two bottles of Tommy and it still smells exactly the same.
Into the 2000s, I switched to Curve, Acqua di Gio (still wear occasionally), and Gucci Rush (my all-time favorite winter scent).
