Is it just me or were the Olympics a WAY bigger deal when we were young?

It felt like in the 80s & 90s, whenever it was an Olympics year, it was the most important thing happening. Families everywhere gathered around the TV to watch together; it dominated the news; it was the main topic of conversations, and everyone was familiar with all the athletes’ names… Kind of like if the Super Bowl lasted for three weeks straight, but even more of a hot topic. Now it kinda just feels like an afterthought… I honestly forgot the Winter Olympics were even happening until my GF just reminded me, and I’m like “oh yeah, that’s right...” Curious if you all agree or not?
