Do people in London have a favorite/preferred airport?

They probably tried to rename Shoreham Airport to London-by-Sea Airport at some point. It's officially called Brighton City Airport, but no-one local calls it that without an eye roll!

I love that QVC show. I know it's the same producers most of the time, but Andy makes it chaotic enough that it always falls apart at some point and makes me giggle.

It always annoys me when the papers decide to have a go because someone in the premier league has brought houses for their mum/siblings/childhood best friends etc. Especially when they grew up on a council estate. Let them buy their loved ones a house while they can afford it.

People who have had piercings - when did you decide to take the jewellery out for good?

Posted by CozJeez85@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 271 comments

faa19@reddit

I got my lobes pierced at 12 & then again at 15. Both times with a guns (bad idea), that plus the nickel containing jewellery I used to wear caused issues and I stopped wearing earrings in my early 20's. My four cartridge piercings I had at various times between 17 and 22 are still going strong. I'm not planning on taking them out, even though I'm now 40, actively planning some more for the mid-life crisis. It's your body and your choice, it's okay to change your mind as you get older.

When did we universally stop having lunch ‘hours’?

Posted by newdawnfades123@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 635 comments

faa19@reddit

It used to be an hour lunch break at my last job, but I took 45 minutes and left 15 minutes early because of the train times. Even when I was WFH and on a slacking day, I still took the full hour. At a previous job, the contract stated "*up to* half an hour for lunch". We all took the full half an hour because fuck that.

This is why I don't personally have an issue eating venison. You can't farm them and you need to cull them to keep the numbers down. It's not perfect, but it's certainly a least worse ethical option when it comes to red meat.

Why would LTDs be set up this way?

Posted by Comfortable-Fan-5106@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 47 comments

faa19@reddit

Seems like tax avoidance, mainly VAT as it will keep the takings under the registration threshold. Or its a set-up and trade for year, don't pay any taxes at all, close the old company (sometimes without filing any accounts) and then simply set-up with a new LTD company and repeat.

Why would LTDs be set up this way?

Posted by Comfortable-Fan-5106@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 47 comments

HMRC have nowhere near enough money and resources to investigate the amount of tax evasion that blatantly goes on. It's extremely annoying, but people will always try and find the loopholes.

That does make we wonder what happened to the ghosts when the old hospital near my childhood home was torn down and changed to housing. They had the ghost of an old matron who frequently haunted the top floor corridors at night, and the lesser seen solider from WW1 (as parts of the site were used for convalescence during that time). The ghosts cant leave, even if the surrodings change.

Funeral For A Friend. Welsh post-hardcore/rock (not emo, but around the same time as a lot of early emo 00's bands) I know the first two albums were popular in rock circles but that initial buzz died down and they just couldn't recreate it. They made seven albums (6 & 7 are bangers imo) and carried on for years. I've seen them live ten times and they always put on good show. There's a tranche of millennial rock fans that hold them in high regard.

What was the moment that made you realise you absolutely had to leave a job?

Posted by GoldenGolgis@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 326 comments

faa19@reddit

I had a subconscious clarity moment of "you don't belong here anymore" a year before I eventually left my last job. Still don't know what triggered it that day. Why I left was a combination of factors. A new manager started and we just didn't gel. Would have been okay but she then just outright bullied and outraised anyone she didn't like in the office. I got repeatedly told I needed to be more of a team player and less of a bitch and she was never held responsible for her actions because she could do no wrong. This eventually ended up triggering my childhood bullying trauma so badly, I mentally gave up at that point and resigned not that long after.

Someone decided to spread the rumour I lived in a council house. My parents had a mortgage, but we did live very near a council estate/area. No idea what that teenage thought process was. There will also be people I went to school with who are probably still convinced 25 years later that me and a certain male friend during school were in a relationship. Nope, never even kissed.

How accepted was being gay in your school?

I was in secondary school/sixth form in the late 90's and early 00's. Very few people were openly out, even though it was clear some people were queer in yr 8, most came out during sixth form . A handful of the girls were openly bi or experimenting with each other, which no-one had a problem with in yr 11. It was a rough school & bullying with rife, gay was thrown around as a common insult. Also has a couple of same-sex teachers and they didn't hide it that much, despite section 28. Ironically I grew up just outside Brighton so was taught from a young age by my family that being LGBTQ was normal.
