People who like hot weather, why?

ebola1986@reddit

I like being able to sit outside late into the evening and still be comfortable. I like being able to strip off and go swimming in a lake or the sea. I like not having to worry about rain spoiling plans. I like the feeling of the sun on my skin. I'll freely admit though that it is not without its disadvantages, particularly the bloody mosquitos.

January weather, how cold does it get?

Another poster pointed out that cost might not be as much of a factor as we think, if someone runs out of food and money but still has dog food in the house.

It's bollocks or it's people with mental health issues or otherwise unable to cope with living alone. The cheapest dog food is about 90p a kilo. You can get beans, soup or tinned meals like curry cheaper than that.

EVs in the UK cold snap – how did yours cope?

ebola1986@reddit

Just to clarify, you're saying 80 miles total, not each way? So your estimated 208 becomes 117? That's a fault. If you're saying 80 miles each way and your estimated 208 becomes 197 then that's a normal margin of error.

Have you tried running a lot slower? Most people hate it because they try to go too fast and inevitably feel like they're going to die. 90% of your running should be done with your heart rate at about 65% of your max. For an average 40 year old that's likely to be about 120bpm.

Honest question, how often do you shower/clean your private parts?

Posted by CactusCowabunga@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 40 comments

ebola1986@reddit

On average seven times a week or maybe more, but some days I go without if I've showered in the evening before bed then don't leave the house the next day.

It'll be much cheaper and less painful to address the self esteem and mental health issues that are making you think extreme surgery is the answer to your problems.

I don't doubt that at all, and there's a huge difference between being a beater for a shoot that gets to occasionally have free reign on the adjacent fields, and riding a horse to tear a fox to bits. I'm just saying that the poster above's ideas of friendly faces walking into the pub with broken shotguns is either a) bullshit or b) utterly privileged ignorance.

No, it isn't. I've lived rural my whole life, and if I saw someone with a gun on public land outside of a sanctioned event I would be calling the police. Don't chat shit mate.

No one in the UK really hunts individually in the same way as the states. There are various shoots for fowl which anyone can do, or there is hunting on horseback which is for the landed gentry.

Is generational wealth unfair to every person who will never make a decent living?

Posted by The_Dean_France@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 33 comments

ebola1986@reddit

Yes, generational wealth is one of the largest barriers to social mobility. The fact that it is mostly tied up in things which do not produce, and actively exploit those that do, makes it much worse.

Head of underwriting for a specific product at an insurance company. I mostly fuck around with speculative numbers, make plans for what's going to change in the future, and deal with regulator submissions. £110k.

If you don't have any bites, which will swell a bit, then it's probably not a bedbug. They're not microscopic either, they're like two or three mm. Everywhere is covered with bugs and most of them are innocuous. Be vigilant, but chances are it's fine.

To get a shit two bed place in zone 3 you'll be looking at minimum 600k. That's a 60k deposit plus a 2400 per month mortgage. The minimum affordability for that is 75k each, and that's with fuck all left for fun which ain't how Londoner's live.

ebola1986@reddit

I'm not, but I am spending £310 on a salary sacrifice lease because that's what works for me. People's situations are very different. Our mortgage is £1550 a month. Our friends across the street, in the same model house, have a mortgage of about £600 a month, because they bought there's much earlier than us and with better interest rates. If we were in their shoes we would have nearly an extra grand a month and I might choose to double my car payment and have something fancier. It's all about circumstance.

Don't spam the group with several 4-5 minute long beer review videos that you make every weekend, particularly when no one ever acknowledges them.

UK Slang - I have just started watching Skins where they use the word "safe" as meaning cool, good, or awesome. Was that a real slang word in the 2007 time frame or were they just trying to make it a thing?

Out of all the online mattresses, which should I choose?

Posted by bcalice@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 20 comments

ebola1986@reddit

All the "new" brands - Otty, Simba, Emma etc offer a 100 day trial. When people reject a mattress during this period it gets washed, disinfected, and gets a new cover. Then it gets sold on their eBay or outlet at about a third of the original price. I've got two mattresses this way.

Massive apologies if this post breaches any rules… But can I be pointed in the direction of where to buy knockoff clothing??

ebola1986@reddit

Stone Island clothing is very, very premium. You're talking £500 jumpers, £1200 coats. None of his peers are wearing genuine SI gear. You should be having this conversation with him and making him realize his peers are being ridiculous, rather than conceding to it.
