Yep, the C8 interior, particularly in the higher trims, is simply fantastic and puts basically all the major German manufacturers to shame now. Solid, no creaks or rattles, soft-touch leather and carbon fiber covering every surface.

Just test drove the Ioniq 5N.

That's great for you, but it's not going to stop people from rightfully thinking that an artificial simulation of a gearbox and engine exhaust are anything more than cheap gimmicks. At that point I'd rather invest in a really good driving simulator.

That’s definitely true, but it’s notable that the objective gap between the two products has shrunk massively as of the introduction of the C8. There’s always been a contingent of buyers who would not consider the Corvette because the Chevy badge doesn’t compare to Porsche, but a large number of buyers also couldn’t get past the abysmal interior design and build quality of the Corvette (rightfully so). Now we’re in the crazy world where a 911 has more rattling plastic in its interior than a Corvette.

The Turbo is now the most in-demand 911 trim after the GT trims, which is crazy given up until COVID dealers basically couldn’t give Turbos away and they had a reputation as _the_ massively depreciating sports car.

If you're referring to build quality they're absolutely not. I test drove the new Vantage before buying a C8 and it was a brand new car filled with interior creaks and rattles; the C8 was absolutely solid and on-par with the best built Porsches I've owned.

The criticism of Porsche is valid but to be fair Chevy dealers have been just as bad with every new trim of the C8. The only difference is that GM can eventually catch up to demand and the market levels out.

What's interesting is that the performance gap is narrowing to the point that there's a real argument to be made over which is the more impressive piece of engineering. Sure, the European hypercars might still use more advanced manufacturing and exotic materials, but arguably the more impressive overall engineering exercise is the performance out of the Corvette for a car that can be sold at that price point, to the "masses", with the intention of being daily driven with a full warranty. Or put another way, in some ways it's "easier" to engineer something with insane performance when money is no object and you're free to compromise on every other aspect of the vehicle.

> Looks are subjective but neither are classically beautiful I mean, sure, but it's quite difficult to sincerely argue that the C8 has anywhere near the design of basically any McLaren. As much as Corvette enthusiasts refuse to concede it, the whole needs-to-fit-golf-clubs really eliminated any ability for the designers to create a "classically" proper looking mid-engine supercar.

I mean… I’ve owned multiple generations of 911s, including a GT3 RS, as well as a Z06. The Z06 absolutely is not in the same realm as the PDK, to say nothing of the PDK Sport in the GT cars (to be clear, I’m not talking about the speed at which a gear change happens, but they delay between pulling a paddle and the shift occurring).

I don’t see how it’s not relevant? For all practical purposes the GT3 RS is a $400k+ car, which you pay either through dealer markups or buying a bunch of other vehicles in order to get on a “list”. In that context it’s absolutely fair to compare a $400k car to one half the price that seems to just about beat it in most regards.

Has there been any improvement in the transmission in the ZR1 compared to the base/Z06? Before I purchased my Z06 I kept reading every review raving about the dual clutch, but I think it was in the context of comparing it to the previous gen’s transmission. I found it to be by far the weakest aspect of the car, and it didn’t hold a candle to the responsiveness of the PDK or Audi DCT, particularly when pulling the paddle quickly for e.g. multiple downshifts in a row.

Related hot take: it literally _never_ looks good to lower any vehicle. Nope, not just a little bit on that one car, _never_. The height set from the factory always looks correct, because there’s always an even gap at all points between the tire and wheel arch. As soon as you do anything that results in that gap being uneven you’ve made the car look worse.

I owned one of the pre-facelift Blackwings and it came extremely close to being my favorite vehicle I've ever owned. Ultimately the issue I just couldn't get past was its complete inability to put the power down in lower gears. I know it's basically sacrilege to a lot of people, but I really think once a car is into these levels of horsepower and torque it really requires AWD to properly make use of that power. I ended up trading it for a G80 M3 CS, and while the M3 doesn't have nearly the pull up above ~80mph, it absolutely feels far quicker point-to-point simply because of its vastly superior ability to hook up with the road.

It's not that. CarPlay (and infotainment in general) is in an absolutely atrocious state across all VAG manufacturers. The CarPlay in my BMWs, Cadillac and Corvette has been absolutely flawless. Somehow only Volkswagen/Audi/Porsche cannot figure out how to stream video and some touch events between a display and phone.

To be fair (at least in the US market), the complaints around harshness are really a symptom of the absolutely atrocious state of roadway infrastructure here, as it makes a massive difference the day-to-day livability (or annoyance) of many stiff performance cars. Daily driving a GT3 in Florida is 100% pleasant (from a ride quality standpoint), doing the same in large cities in California or the northeast is misery.

Fully agree. I just recently test drove the Z4 M40i with manual and it reminded me that modern BMW manuals are absolute trash. At this point anyone buying a manual in 2025 is looking for maximum engagement/feel, and when your competition is the likes of the CT5-V Blackwing, GT3 and GT-350 you shouldn't even bother if you're going to half-ass it as badly as BMW now does.
