I’m not a gun nut, but this might be a good time to buy an gratuitously large firearm and coincidentally, just chance you know, set up a card table and clean and oil that thing during these times.

I’m confused about the nature of the engine. It is a piston engine, so… it has an internal propeller/turbine to create an air jet?

“Imputrescible” is a fantastic word. As far as “pinter” I suspect you meant “pintle” unless there are different names for this part in the UK. The pintle is the rudder’s pin that seats in a socket called a “gudgeon” which is also a fantastic word.

Can somebody explain me what the goal is of such an maneuver? Is that even a landing strip or why did they almost crash in the buildings at the end?

This is a key feature of American fascism: the USA of yesteryear, the imperfect one that was always improving and aspired to be better, died not from an attack of overwhelming force, but with a whimper of stupidity, entitlement, and obvious charlatanry. All of our military force? Useless, probably even a danger. Our ideals - documents, history, and the heroism and sacrifice of our grandfathers? Wasted.

I wouldn’t go that far. It’s just that two things are true: Lindy was a Nazi sympathizer, and he also did the amazing thing requiring courage, intelligence and fortitude.

OTD in 1986, a Marine mechanic stole an A-4M Skyhawk for a 45 minute joyride during which time he performed several aerobatic maneuvers. He had wanted to be a fighter pilot but an injury prevented him from qualifying. His stunt cost him four months in the brig.

Embolisms usually happen from rapid depressurization or long periods of immobilization. I don’t know the details, but he may have operated the cabin pressure controls improperly, or if the glider was unpressurized, climbed too fast - thus getting bent like a diver. Another possibility is that the glider was extremely cramped (they usually are) and he was in it for a really long time, which increases the chances of a clot-based embolism.

In Pennsylvania all I had to do was show up and be willing to do either disgusting or dangerous things, sometimes simultaneously. Real sailors know what I’m talking about. You haven’t lived until you’ve tarred rigging aloft, or fixed black water plumbing in the bilge while under way.

I once was riding a line at < 1 kt and the boat sped up to 4 kts. It felt like a building was pressing against me. I couldn’t maintain my hold on the line, and my hand slipped off, but my foot was in a loop at the end, so I was caught and dragged backwards. The flow submerged me and I _could not_ do a sit-up against the tons of water to grab the rope. It was a long time before the topside crew realized what was happening and slowed down; I thought I was going to die. One minute fun, the next minute a hair’s breadth from death. No kidding.

Any idea what/who’s plane this is?
