I find it more weird that you think your neighbours are that invested in what you do with your washing. I do this sometimes and bring the washing in when I get back from work. The neighbours aren't a factor at all!

Travelling vs Saving in early 20s, what would you do?

Posted by ar2002-@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 152 comments

UltraFab@reddit

I kind of did both - rather than travelling for an extended period to one or 2 places, I studied, got a pretty good job, and then went on 2 or 3 holidays per year. Some solo some with friends. I'm quite proud of how much I was able to see and do using my annual leave

What health issues do people in the UK seem to think are becoming much more common these days?

Gallbladder issues because of GLP1s. Adenomyosis is being talked about a lot more. I got diagnosed with it a few years ago. There was not even an NHS page about it at the time, but in the years since a few of my friends have also received a diagnosis.

This may be more of an Americanism as i don't think I've seen these here, but those signs that people put in their cars that say stuff like "Honk if you love dogs" etc are supposed to be a joke. The driver gets honked at a lot because they are so bad at driving. So the sign is a play on that. I've seen them referenced a lot in American shows and movies but I only learned this yesterday.

Would you consider a worker commenting on how your skin looks, rude?

Posted by honeymeadowss@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 164 comments

UltraFab@reddit

Yes it is rude. I hate that shops tell their staff to approach customers in this way. If I want help, I'll ask for it. Once I had an eyebrow threader in Superdrug tell me that my eyebrows needed doing because they were messy!!

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right?

How are bin collectors viewed? If you’re a bin collector do you tell everyone what your job is?

Posted by RoohsMama@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 993 comments

UltraFab@reddit

I know a girl that used to work in HR at my last job at a law firm. She quit and became a bin collector. It was a shock at first (and also a bit funny to see on Facebook because she is very short) but she absolutely loved it and looked really happy. A job is a job at the end of the day, and it's a really important one so I wouldn't be embarrassed by it or not date someone because of it.

Is there parking etiquette for street parking outside houses?

Posted by manic_panda@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 87 comments

UltraFab@reddit

There are no rules or etiquette on this kind of thing. As you said, you don't own the road, so if there is space outside your house anyone is free to park there. That also means you are free to park outside your neighbours house whenever you want 😉

I don't add sugar to anything really unless I'm making a cake or dessert. If you add a lot of sugar to things then I can understand why you'd say that.

It used to be that children moved out at 18 or 21 but things are so expensive that they cannot afford to move out. If you are approaching your thirties and still not able to rent somewhere or get a room is a shared place then I don't think it's unreasonable to pay something towards your parents bills. If your parents are shit with money then I'd be getting out asap.
