Do you feel the level of dog dirt on our Uk streets has increased post pandemic?

Maybe. I live in Swindon and it's worse in alleyways, footpaths/cyclelanes and public fields. Less so on pavements and streets, but I do still see it. My wife saw a a 'big chav dickhead' not pick up his big dogs' big shit so called after him a few times 'Are you going to pick that up?' and eventually he turned around and shouted 'OH FUCK OFF' at her so that goes some way to explain it - some people feel entitled to let their dog shit everywhere and not pick it up. If they're doing this daily on their dogs walk then that's a lot of shit that piles up. You only need 2-3 dickheads living near you and you have a big problem. Lack of enforcement goes some way to help with that. Like there are signs saying you can be fined up to £1000 but I doubt anyone is actually getting fined. From what I've seen, the pavement shit is usually small dog owners who walk their dogs early in the morning. They think that because it's a small shit, they can get away with not picking up, and because it's early, nobody is watching. I would support people having their dogs taken away if they are caught not picking up shit. I am a dog owner myself and I'd never even consider leaving it for someone else to deal with.

Is there anywhere to watch classic TV, with the old adverts?

Posted by Downtown-Nectarine49@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 8 comments

TheAmazingSealo@reddit

youtube has loads of stuff. You can search like 'channel 4 1994' for example and you'll find vhs recordings from back in the day.  or often you can find entire shows with their adverts intact, for example 'the big breakfast 1998'

technology made it so that you don't have to. I think a growing contingent of parents are seeing the damage it does and are opting for tablet-free houses and talking to their kids.

You ever walk next to someone that does this? And they keep like lightly bumping into you? Like I was walking with a colleague on a lunch break and when called out he didn't even realise he was doing it.

I started listening to punk and wearing what I liked and not caring if other people did or not. You pick it up as you go along. 'Are there any forums, influencers, music bands that would be a good start to understand it' What bands do you like? Usually the ones you like are the ones you follow... Also, no 'influencers'. You're not supposed to just copy other people, be your own authentic self! Just literally put yourself out there. Wear whatever.

Do you guys have any favorite youtubers? Preferably with a big backlog of videos?

Is it a normal book to put in a year 4 reading list for 9 year olds to read?

What stuck out to me is on the reading list under the 'genre' column is the two categories 'Funny' and 'Funny novel'. First off, what's the difference between the two? Secondly, why aren't they referred to as 'comedy' as that is the genre. You wouldn't be like 'oh it's a funny', you'd say 'it's a comedy'. Why dumb it down? Also weird that 'diverse' is a genre. I'm all for diversity and including it in the curriculum, but surely part of accepting diversity is not pointing it out? Like the presence of diverse characters should be innocuous and normalised, not pointed out and labelled as something other than normal? Highwayman is fine for 9 year olds but yeah the illustrations are pretty graphic to show to 9-year olds.

They're wankers with youtube channels that film as close as they can to places they aren't allowed to go in hopes of getting a rise out of security guards or other people that work in the place they are 'auditing' They say they're doing it to hold our government to account and test our freedom of speech laws but in reality they just want to annoy people for a reaction that they can use for 'content'

How does the Isle of Man TT still exist?

Posted by CrappyJohnson@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 521 comments

TheAmazingSealo@reddit

Yeah then it would depend on the person taking pleasure from the others' suffering and their perception. If they perceive that the other person is not enjoying it, it's schadenfreude, if they are aware that they want it and are enjoying it, it wouldn't count

I'm 37 now, I was about 14-15 at the time. I remember it coming about when kids were styling themselves after David Beckham when he had a ducks arse. It was never really used as an insult more just curiously talking about it and what it was and who you'd label a metrosexual, and it mainly applied to the more popular cool kids

Nooooo, you're getting the wrong end of the stick I think! I'm not saying that being homophobic is a metrosexual thing, more that them being 'an LGBT ally' and wearing glitter, social attitude is nothing to do with the term, and that you're retroactively attributing things to it that don't belong. I'm like 30 minutes away from Bristol so don't think it's an area thing either.

'No-one in my family ever took me and my parents had no interest in football, or any sport at all.' I still feel such shame for not liking it like my dad pretty clearly wanted me to. Overheard my grandad asking my mum if she thought I was gay because I 'didn't have a sport' one time.
