Is Irish cream liqueur popular in the UK?

Specifically in coffee? As an American, I go through a couple bottles every fall/winter.

Yes we are extremely fond of baileys in the uk

Bailey's - we swig it by the pint near xmas, then don't touch it again for another 11 months.

My gran literally does drink it by the pint

My wife is a great fan. I'm forbidden from drinking it except around Christmas because I end up 'inadvertently' drinking it all.

I open a bottle and have an Irish coffee. Then a coffee that's more Irish than coffee. Then a mug of baileys. Then I drink the rest from the bottle. Every. Single. Time.

lol.. I'll take a quick swig from the bottle if I'm near it. I keep it by the kettle so.. I'm near it a lot.

Boldboy72@reddit

speak for yourself mate.. if there's a bottle of Baileys available, I will drink it all.. any time of year. I've even stopped with the wasted time of pouring it into a glass.. direct from the bottle is the only way

This is exactly the way of it 🤣 You can usually get a litre bottle for just over a tenner at Sainos in the run up to Christmas.

I remember my mum drinking it when I was a kid. I was like fucking hell mums got some premium chocolate milk going on. More than once I begged to try it and more than once I thought wow my mum likes shit chocolate milk

Before COVID we were purely Christmas Baileys drinkers, since COVID (and the introduction of multiple Aldis flavoured knock offs) it's become Christmas all year round in our house!

It's a popular Christmas present - I can't stand the stuff and recirculate it as soon as possible!

My girlfriend would disagree with you. You’ll often find a substantial glass being poured into her face via a small gap in a blanket wrapped around her at the end of most wintry weeks. Absolute bandit for the stuff.

I was describing the effect of flocculation recently and said it looked like a brain haemorrhage shot. Person i was talking to was born in 2000 and had never experienced such delights

I was born in ‘96, I’m surprised they’ve never heard of it. It should be a fairly standard shot at a lot of bars
View on Reddit #78152535

Brain damage I think. It was Bailey's floated on a clear drink, sambuca maybe, then grenadine dripped through it
View on Reddit #78093393

811545b2-4ff7-4041@reddit

I think you needed to add Schnapps, baileys and aftershock for that. Been a long time since I had one of those in Bar Bar in Liverpool. Christ they're still open 25 years later [https://www.baabar.co.uk/about/](https://www.baabar.co.uk/about/)
View on Reddit #78093033

I have vague recollection of a shot called a brain haemorrhage from the 90s which was baileys curdled into something, maybe aftershock?
View on Reddit #78098580

Grenadine and peach schnapps. Peach schnapps went in first, slowly pour baileys on top using the back of a spoon, then add a couple of drops of grenadine.

It's great in coffee but do that rarely as don't want to drink alcohol too early in the day or caffeine too late in the day. There's a small magic window around Christmas when it works. I'd say it's quite common for people, especially women, to drink it at home all year round but especially in the winter. It's not something you'd see drunk out very often.

Same (for me anyway) as port and lemon. I love a good port and lemon, but only during December. Once we hit New Year, the port goes back in the cupboard. Port and lemon before/with dinner, Bailey's (with ice) after dinner.

View on Reddit #78100494

Leading_Study_876@reddit

As everyone says, just at Christmas, normally. Then everyone's sick of it. It is a bit sweet and sickly, to be fair. *However* - if you have a bottle gathering dust, here's an idea for you. There's a little-known cocktail called a Pibroch. A Scottish girlfriend introduced me to it way back in the 1970s. You take a long glass, half fill it with crushed ice. Then put in a shot of good whisky (preferably a malt) half a shot of Drambuie and two shots of Bailey's. Now add chilled fresh cream. Double or single according to taste, until you have covered the ice. Give it a good stir, insert a straw and enjoy. Personally, I can happily do without the Drambuie. Just ice, whisky, Baileys's and some fresh cream will do me. One thing that put me off this cocktail... In Singapore, I had taken an unfinished glass into my bedroom. Put it on my bedside table and promptly fallen asleep. Later that night, I woke up. My mouth feeling a little dry. I reached out in the dark for my glass, and put it to my lips. Unfortunately, a very large cockroach had found it earlier, and fallen in. I can still remember those scrabbling insect legs clawing at my face in the dark.

Baileys around christmas yeah, just in a glass on its own. Does get added to hot drinks on menus sometimes (I associate it with hot chocolate more than coffee). For coffees with alcohol I think espresso martini and Irish coffee are things I've had more often (irish coffee being a black coffee with whiskey and sugar, cream as its own layer on top, no Baileys involved).
