You’re not giving yourself enough credit, you have of good base understanding of databases already. If you’re really nervous about it, why don’t you do a Udemy or LinkedIn Learning class on a particular database stack that you may be interacting with?

Don’t forget facilities too. You also get to put together the new office furniture, have to call the HVAC guys if the air con is broken, and get to turn off the water to broken toilets before calling the plumber.

Are you auto-deploying OS updates for Windows and Linux servers?

My man, I read it and understood that you are doing patching rings but do not auto update dependencies. I’m saying I can’t imagine enterprise wouldn’t be doing this in 2026. What’s with the attitude?

We’re moving a system to the cloud. Other than keeping video in the cloud, the local result? Racking up three racks worth of embedded video systems of “edge” compute.

Best linux sysadmin course for someone who knows commands but has gaps

Posted by Redrra@reddit | sysadmin | View on Reddit | 37 comments

TerrificVixen5693@reddit

You’re totally right dude. All you need an IT generalist background and systems line of thinking. We used to need to know syntax perfectly, but with some LLM magic, you can use it to build out, deconstruct, or figure out pretty much everything. The idea that you have to understand the exact syntax to lvs or pvs or vgs is ridiculous when we have man pages, tldr pages, and a supercharged LLM that can help me understand the syntax or what a command or code is doing at any time means that these types of sysadmin tasks are completely democratized to IT generalists like me and you.

My right eye is significantly less “good” than my left because of astigmatism. I can’t really get it down either and would rather shoot with my left eye despite being right handed.

Depends. If it’s a small local joint or a place where I’m friends with some of the employees, I’m willing to help. You’d be amazed how far a cable recrimp or printer driver installation at restaurant might go.
