What is the thing your parents were (and maybe still are) adamantly wrong about?

The cupboard under the sink for me and everyone I know contains cleaning stuff, I feel like it's way too small for a bin!

Do they? I don't feel like I've ever noticed this or followed any specific pattern when putting stuff in a new kitchen. My mugs are above the cooker (well slightly to the right because there's a big funnel above the cooker)

It's wrong because it's wrong now, nobody's saying it wasn't the case in the past. The person you are replying to knows this because it's super obvious information and clearly isn't saying "It was always like this and they are just wrong"

Legit only brum says "Mom" in the UK and people telling you that it's used in Scotland is just a straight lie, what the hell So weird that you're getting downvoted for it

If you’ve lived abroad (outside the UK), what’s the one thing (item, ideal, tech, convenience), you’d bring back to introduce to the UK?

Taear@reddit

That's pretty much universal, at least every house I've looked at here in the northwest has that. It'd be nice if it was a law of course

No, but the post is saying "we should get japanese politeness here" when really we've also got superficial politeness in a really similar way

I applied for 22 minimum wage jobs with no calls back. What's wrong with my resume?

Posted by Difficult-Assist9250@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 335 comments

Taear@reddit

It's been said but firstly the word resume is in itself an americanism and so much of what you've written is based on american stuff. Are you really applying for a job in the UK?

I worked at a call centre for Sky and it's around 2200. People would sometimes call in to book porn at this time, although as the years went on this happened less and less. I'd say it was maybe 2016? An older guy calling to complain that he'd booked XXX Gay and the penises on screen weren't big enough AND they kept repeating content. He was telling me over and over "I know what XXX means and this isn't XXX", probably half an hour in total.

What is the best thing about the UK? Or best thing about being British?

Yup. Just depends what team you're speaking to, sales and mobile are heavily India and now more and more stuff is there. Imagine you've got like 30,000 advisers in india and south africa and only 1000 in Scotland sorta thing.

Thirty years ago in school they told us that "polos were so bad they're not even worth feeding to dogs" For some reason I always think this, if I eat one I've got something in the back of my head telling me I shouldn't ever touch them. I remember it was a school assembly, no idea why they went on about it

Their recipe has definitely changed, they don't qualify for this at all. You can get other brand ones that are still like they were but the chocolate content has gone down.

Again it's not saying that novelty records aren't a thing any more. It's saying you had to go and buy them and pay actual money for a single novelty bit Whereas now it's just a streaming thing and takes less commitment and etc.

That's the entire point of the post man, they're saying you'd go out and pay £5 for just a single song that you're going to listen to once. They're not saying novelty stuff doesn't exist any more, but that it's a different way to access it and an easier one that makes it more ephemeral as well

40k isn't a spin off - it came from Rogue Trader which is older. They just rebranded it a bit later. Rick Priestly joined the company and was asked to make a fantasy war game (the company made D&D miniatures before that) and he put some sci fi stuff in, then went to make his Rogue Trader game into more of a thing. Kinda like them both coming in at the same time? I don't think that counts.

The simpsons wasn't a spin off - it was a segment of a variety show, they were testing the waters with it. I dunno, imagine it like Rugrats in Live and Kicking or that sort of thing. Mario Kart also isn't a spin off, it's a sequel which is a different thing.

Also, the money that's "left" hasn't left it's just an authorisation. It takes a company just as long to take out the money as it does for them to refund it (three days) it's just that the bank sets it aside to be taken. That's what a pending transaction is.
