Why do American boys avoid communal showers after P.E.?

Posted by WileyOctopus991@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 358 comments

QuarterNote44@reddit

I avoided them in junior high. The boys in there were gross. They whipped each other with towels, made inappropriate comments about each other's bodies, and there were streaks of dried jizz on the lockers. Best to keep your head down, not draw attention, and get out of there. High school was different. We just showered and that was it.

Why do you tip in dollars in European countries?

Posted by charteris@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 23 comments

QuarterNote44@reddit

Never have. I've heard the Czechs are cool with it in touristy areas though. Tbh I don't tip much in Europe period because people tend to look at me like I grew a third ear or something.

What’s living in the USA like?

QuarterNote44@reddit

>What’s living in the USA like? Pretty alright. >Idk why but I read European subreddits and all I hear about is how expensive education and healthcare is, and if you get disabled or sick you’re fucked basically True for some, not true for most. If it were true for most, some things would probably change. >Is there any nuance to this? Yeah >Are Americans really one broken knee from bankruptcy? Generally no. >Is college debt really that bad? Yes >Does the USA have any redeeming qualities in your eye? Come on dude. This is the most reddit question ever. I've lived in Europe and several US states. Life in rural Bavaria wasn't so different from the American Midwest. (Was cleaner, though)

I once did a trip from Bavaria, up through Czechia, Wrocław, back across Northern Germany, to Friesland, and back to Bavaria. It was great. I've also done Utah to New York City and back. For a day trip I'm only going if it's 3.5 hours one way.

QuarterNote44@reddit

Probably. Who doesn't love good food, games, and fireworks? That said, kinda depends on where you live. I've lived places where the town goes all-out for the 4th. Other places, not so much.

What Aspects of American Culture Should an Indian Student Learn to Better Understand the U.S.?

Posted by vansh_on_track@reddit | AskAnAmerican | View on Reddit | 113 comments

QuarterNote44@reddit

Alright. I've heard that in India it's a virtue to scam people. That if you can get ahead by lying, you should do it because it means you're smarter than they are and that's a credit to you. This is not the case in America. Most Americans expect fair play and a baseline level of trust.
