I see you said the same to everyone else on this thread that called it out as an Americanism and not what we say. Ah no you didnt. I wasn't rude. I was quick, I can't help how you read tone, perhaps you need to work on that rather than accusing others of being "stuck up". This is really embarrassing for you, frankly.

Have you ever lost your job and how did you cope?

I was made redundant through no fault of my own (the entire UK devision was). It was shit, but it meant I got to spend almost 4 months fully paid with my infant daughter and that's time I'll never get back.

This isn't r/AskAnAustralian though is it? It's AskUK. A term being common across different areas doesn't mean it's either the most common internationally, your say so is not a poll, or that that's even relevant in the UK. They wanted to learn about what we do, why would that not include what we call it? The audacity of yourself to go to subs dedicated to other countries and lecture them about what they call things, it beggars belief. Now, off to the Kangaroo farm I think Lassie is stuck down the well.

Has anyone in the UK actually got plug-in solar working on a balcony, and what was the real-world experience?

Posted by LieSuccessful8813@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 7 comments

On_The_Blindside@reddit

The whole point of plug in is that you don't have to do a G98 or an approved installer. This is the 2nd post you've made on this, it's not yet available for use in the UK but when it is you won't need a G98 or an approved installer.

What are your opinions of defence lawyers?

Without a zealous defence there is no justice. There's always people with smoother than average brains that think the defence are standing in the way of justice, but they are categorically wrong.

You intentionally buy food that destroys our environment. You intentionally buy clothes that were made with effectively slave labour. You intentionally use products that support despotic regimes. You are unironically showing the same fucking stupid holier than thou attitude that actually prevents and actively discourages proper discourse on this topic. If that is not clear enough for you, let this be. **You are part of the problem.**

Well getting in a car at all has a risk of killing someone. That's why I walk in my home made hemp shoes, given that if you buy shoes your murdering someone else's childhood somewhere else in the world. I bet you don't even weave your own Shirts do you? Honestly youre just as bad as SUV drivers.

Then use Google. If you really want to understand the buying mindset there's plenty of statistically sound polls that represent society and car buyers. All this is is an opportunity for the "holier than thou" crowd to say how evil SUVs are, discouraging anyone that actually owns one from replying because they don't want to get shat on by folks like your good self for them making a decision you don't like. Same shit with Vegans really. It's boring. Oh, and I drive an estate when I have to drive, and walk or cycle otherwise, I don't even have an SUV.

Or, there's just not that many of them so the market isn't there. I think it's likely the former, than assuming the behaviour and thoughts of these apparently millions of people that have Sash windows.

Sun cream, not sunscreen, we're not yanks. I wear SPF 30 containing moisturiser on my face and head every day anyway as I'm bald so it burns very easily. But yeah, we put it on our daughter so it's a kick up the arse to put it on ourselves too

There's lots, but they are still not the majority. the vast majority of UK housing does not have sash windows. so \*typically\*. we don't have them, so there's no market for these types of AC units here. if they're the norm, why don't we see these types of AC units on sale more than the tower and hose kind?

No that's not what the word vacuum means. you can't pull "some“ of a vacuum, you either have a vacuum or you do not. negative pressure is not the same as a vacuum.

Unless your room is incredibly well sealed the pressure effect will be basically 0. The majority of the air is passed over the evaps to be cooled, only some is passed over the condenser to take the heat out of the refrigerant.

Typically we don't have the same kind of sliding up windows that are common in the US, which means units like the one pictured don't work here. You can buy portable AC units that have window sealers and a hose that sticks outside which does pretty much the same thing.

How did Chinese made cars become so popular?

They do get it wrong: [Jaecoo 7 recalled: a quarter of all brand’s 2025 UK cars going back to dealers](https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/jaecoo/369117/jaecoo-7-recalled-quarter-all-brands-2025-uk-cars-going-back-dealers) It's got fuck all to do with capitalism protecting itself, if you think Chinas model isn't just state backed capitalism then you need to look again. Working in the industry, I benchmark these cars frequently. More often than not it's very easy to find basic issues with fit and finish, NVH is a complete afterthought, and software is slow and clunky. Now that's not just Chinese vehicles that have these issues (especially with Software) but if you look at the other upstarts, Rivian, Tesla, etc their software is leagues ahead of anything in a Jaecoo. If I were going to buy a Chinese EV (and I'm not), then I would only look at BYD.

Healthier than smoking yes, and should be encouraged for smokers. Healthy, absolutely not. Non smokers should not do it. It's not healthy to be filling your lungs with whatever superheated vapour is created when you vape.

Why do people get so annoyed by cars parked by their house?

Posted by lostmagicalsocks@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 71 comments

On_The_Blindside@reddit

Much as we may not like it, people have valid reasons for not wanting folk to park outside their houses. I've been blocked in by inconsiderate pillocks parking opposite my house when I've had to dash out to go help my mum at the hospital for her cancer treatment. The last thing I need when I'm already worried about that is to have some bell end making it next to impossible to get off the drive.
