Where I work all staff with a 'proper' salary are not paid a month in arrears, they are paid in the month for that month. Only hourly rate paid staff with variable hours are paid in arrears. Is it really common to pay bog standard 35/37/40 hr week employees in arrears? Why?

I'd absolutely keep the house and our average car. Would quit work though. The thing for me would be being able to live as normal without working but with fancy food and regular holidays. Activities I do a few times a year would become almost weekly too. Like cinema, bowling, etc.

Babies sweat glands aren't fully developed in the early months, that's why hot temps are so dangerous for them, they can't sweat to lower internal body temperature as easily.

I always use zero for 0 as otherwise people mistake it for 4. That issue could be specific to North East accent though (I'm not full on Geordie, I'm from Durham, however outside the North East people struggle to recognise the difference).

How can the UK have health staff shortages while newly qualified staff struggle to get NHS jobs?

Posted by Desperate-Drawer-572@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 81 comments

MissingScore777@reddit

Not enough money to employ them. So yeah we're in the farcical situation of not enough staff and qualified people can't get a job to fill the shortages, all due to lack of funds.

Yeah a surprising amount of people fall into the trap of having their head/field of vision be centre of the lane. But obviously as we don't sit in the centre of the car this leads to the car being too far to the left.

I'm the one that was still making lighthearted comments whereas you were the one replying seriously. So I don't think I'm the one taking anything personally. I'm finding it quite amusing that criticism of butter is all it takes to get under people's skin.

I can't stand mixing butter with another form of moisture like that. I'm not a big butter fan generally though. It's a bit too sweet and creamy for use in savoury foods for my tastes.

Gonna be a dumb question, but if I don't have a job and don't have any income do I have to worry about taxes?

Posted by True_Appearance_920@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 88 comments

MissingScore777@reddit

To be clear it's not the first 12k (12,570). It's 12k annually per tax year. So in April it's 1047, as that's the start of the year. Increase that by the same each month and apply it to your cumulative earnings. Tax is paid on the remainder minus what you've already paid in previous months.

This week is the Hospice’s Dying Matters campaign and the theme is “Let’s talk about Death and Dying”. What is your story around death, dying and culture?

Posted by SaysPooh@reddit | AskUK | View on Reddit | 107 comments

MissingScore777@reddit

My entire life is just trying to distract myself from the finality of death. I've struggled in the past with extreme anxiety, hyperventilating and panic attacks just from thinking about death. I'm doing a little better now but I still probably shouldn't be engaging in this thread. I think I may classify as having Thanataphobia but I've never been officially diagnosed. I'm never going to be able to engage in the kind of open dialogue OP or this campaign would like but I hope it's useful for others.
