For those of you with a forever car, how do you prepare for it? What gave you the faith that you'd get the support you need from the automaker/aftermarket, etc.?

I have a few and it’s rough sometimes. A Lexus SC300 and LS430. Some stuff is discontinued for the SC so I started holding onto extra stuff like headlights, taillights, and interior pieces. Some suspension stuff from the MKIV Supra fits so that helps. The biggest hassle is really the cost of parts. OEM and the nicer aftermarket stuff is expensive on the LS430. I don’t drive either car as much anymore and am saving up to do a lot of work on both. I’ve had both cars for so long I can’t imagine life without either one.

I see them all the time here. I see a lot of young guys in C5's, C6's, and C7's at car meets. They're all over the place here in regular traffic. Plus I see the generic old guys with them tooit's the C4 and older Vettes that I don't see much outside of Coffee & Cars or muscle car shows.

What's the one weakness in your car that you would change/improve if you could?

Give it more power. I have a Lexus SC300 and GS300. It would be great if they came with the 1JZ-GTE/2JZ-GTE stock just like their Japanese counterparts did. Probably my biggest complaint. I rode in a friend’s 5-speed SC300 with a 1JZ swap and it was so fun. All he had on it was an HKS single exit exhaust on it at the time.

Currently my favorite modern car. I want one so bad but would have to get a used 2018-2020. Amazing car in every way and one of my favorite cars I’ve driven. My biggest fear of owning one is dealing with the door handles failing. It seems to happen a lot and is very expensive to repair unless you do the work yourself. I’d rather it have came with regular door handles to be honest.

I actually like the Model S and X. My daughter was dazzled by the X since the doors went up and she could watch cartoons on the rear screen. The newer 3’s don’t look bad, just kinda small. Is that roadster ever coming out?

I’ll admit it, I really like my ID.BUZZ. Despite its shortcomings in battery size, it makes up for it in other ways.

I already had multiple cars when my daughter was born. I mostly drove her around in coupes when she was little. Later on I replaced my E92 3 Series for an old GS300 as a daily. A sedan is more than adequate but we got around just fine in the E92 and SC300.

Have You Given Up On Your Dream Car?

Unless a clean MKIV Supra appears for $35k or less, that boat has sunk. I just can't bring myself to spend so much on a 30 year old car. Same for the NSX, Viper, Skyline, and RX-7. There's also the LC500. I could grab a high mileage 2018-2020 but it's an expensive car to maintain. I'll get it eventually but the old cars I gave up on. I get tired of dealing with old cars sometimes. The other main dream car can't be imported legally yet. Late 2000's-2010's Toyota Crown Athlete, black on black.

In 2004, when I was in HS, the WRX STI and the Lancer Evolution were the two coolest cars you could buy. I spent way too much time thinking about which one I would get. 20 years later, what would have been the right choice?

Posted by HoraceGrand@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 223 comments

LexKing89@reddit

I was in junior high, going into high school back then. I’d have gone Evo. I never saw them around but did see WRX’s and STI’s back then. They were both pretty awesome cars. Not that 14 year old me could’ve afforded either one. Also wanted a 3000GT, C5, Trans Am, Eclipse, or an IS300. Never did get any of them in the end 😭

Have you found that you care a lot less about super cars as you’ve gotten older?

Posted by Colalbsmi@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 852 comments

LexKing89@reddit

I don't care about them as much due to there being so many super cars here. When you see the same group of super cars at every Coffee & Cars/big car show/racing spots every month for aover a decade it's not as big of a deal. I still love to see cars like the Diablo, NSX, R8, and the Testarossa but I mostly focus on older luxury cars, JDM stuff, and donks when I go out. The only super car I could see myself with is a first gen NSX or maybe an R8. I worry it'd just be a big headache to own anything too crazy.

Lexus GS I bought a white 2001 GS300 back in 2020. I loved the car but hated that it was white on tan. I bought a black on black 2004 GS300 a year ago and it's almost perfect aside from the faded roof. Still need to sell the 2001 off but I love these cars. I'd consider getting a newer GS or buying an Aristo V300 someday.

What have been your top 3 most memorable moments within the car hobby?

Posted by CompetitionFalse3620@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 101 comments

LexKing89@reddit

Hmmm that's a tough one: -Riding in an LFA when I first started working at a Lexus dealership. Incredible experience that I'll never forget. -September of 2013's Coffee and Cars day. I had started driven my modded Lexus LS430 and the car got a crazy amount of attention as there was only one other one in the city. Afterwards a bunch of the car homies came over afterwards to play some Nintendo 64. After that we went to cruise around town and take photos. Also went cruising again later that night too. -In early June of 2010 I went across town to an area where a ton of car guys cruise and hangout at for the first time. I raced a few random cars for a while until I found a place to park. I met some cool people that night that became my best friends later on. It was a life changing night as I still have many of those same friends 15 years later. That's where my life was kinda boring and quiet most nights to me being out with the car homies 3 to 5 nights a week. My life revolved heavily around cars and the awesome friends I made for a long time.

What are your goals within the car hobby?

Posted by CompetitionFalse3620@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 185 comments

LexKing89@reddit

Hopefully keep driving the cars I like and modding stuff. The uktimate goal is to own a house wiyh a shop big enough to store several cars, tools, and parts in. Can't chase after my current dream car until I can get a garage big enough for my current cars. If I can't get the house then my own shop with living quarters would be dope.

LexKing89@reddit

Possibly. I always wondered how it worked in Japan since they have the GE, GTE, and UZ in the Soarer and Aristo. The GTE seemed like the way to go back then, if it were an option. I never looked into how they priced each car out back then.

The Lexus SC not getting the 1JZ-GTE in the United States, the SC400 not coming with an optional manual transmission, and the GS not getting the 2JZ-GTE from the Aristo V300. It's something I've thought about a long time ago as a big Toyota and Lexus fan. The IS350, RC350, and the F cars should have been offered with an optional manual. The manual IS250 sold like crap but it was so slow compared to the 350. Manual Lexus always sold poorly though.

Usually the big Toyota SUV's like the 4Runner, Sequoia, FJ Cruiser, and Land Cruiser. I've known a lot of wealthy people that drove those along with older Lexus LX's and GX's. If it's in really good shape they usually have money and genuinely love the car from my experience.

Why do so many cars with not black interiors have a black dash?

Posted by KingstonEagle@reddit | cars | View on Reddit | 112 comments

LexKing89@reddit

Lexus’ had that ugly brown back in the day and the tan/brown interior is the most common interior color on old Lexus. I see black interiors more often now and other shades besides that ugly brown crap on the top half of the dash and door trim. My SC300 and GS300 have that tan/brown combo and I hate it so much. I’ve seen that crappy color combination on a few old BMW’s and Mercedes that I was interested in, but it’s a deal breaker for me now.
