Pour one out for the 17 year old Broccoli heads.
Quite a jump in the desirability of a singular model, going from one of the most controversial refreshes of all time, getting hate all over Reddit for months, to becoming an internet icon and everyone wanting one.
Becoming the absolute greatest car in its class by a mile, dethroning everything that Audi or Mercedes threw at it.
Quite a legacy.
carguymt@reddit
Did this actually happen though?
It's not the greatest car in it's class though, let alone by a mile. Dethroning a boring and decade old RS5 and a 4 cylinder C63 isn't exactly difficult. But the Alfa QV and CT4 Blackwing are both better driver's cars than the M3. The M3 is still ugly as sin and incredibly numb to drive.
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit (OP)
Go on social media, and 99% of the cars you will see are G80 M3's, and GT3RS's.
Can't get the QV, or CT4V Blackwing with AWD, so for most people they are far less desirable.
carguymt@reddit
I see very few G80s on social media, your algorithm just fell into that world. AWD can be a selling point, but I have yet to see an unbiased review that says the G80 is the best car in its class by a mile. The Road & Track review of the car straight up said it wasn't fun.
But to each their own, glad the car has found fans somewhere because it's definitely not for me.
RunninOnMT@reddit
Ehh, your social media algorithm shows them to you party due to the feedback loop of you being interested in them.
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit (OP)
Don't have to take it from me, just go watch Youtube.
Even Jason Cammisa talks about it on his podcast.
It is pretty well known that the G80 M3 is one of the most popular cars currently on the internet.

Brendawgggggggg@reddit
They are excellent cars overall. But they still are very ugly compared to previous generations imo. Also they’re enormous, but thats every car nowadays it seems.
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit (OP)
They may be ugly, but they are also incredibly bold looking cars.
You know it is a performance car when you see one.
It has taken the M3 from just a slightly wider 330i to a completely different car that you can't mistake for a 330i.
Brendawgggggggg@reddit
Kias and hyundais are bold too, I still think their design language is ridiculous generally. BMW design has been going in the wrong direction for a few years and it really doesn’t make sense to me. I mean honestly, I know it’s been out for a while now and it’s “growing” on some people, but what the hell were they thinking with the G80’s grille? I know they sell like hot cakes, but you cannot tell me it’s because of those beaver teeth.
The F chassis cars were a step in the right direction after the bangle era but now they’ve gone off the deep end.
I’ll be hanging on to my e46 until it either returns to the earth via rust, or bankrupts me with the prices of genuine parts these days (accelerator pedal is $900 now for example).
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit (OP)
And, people absolutely love Hyundai/Kia.
You have people taking out terrible loans because the K5 looks incredibly bold.
mach1alfa@reddit
tbh i think that’s exactly why it doesn’t appeal to me, i liked the old ones look like the 3 series of its time with some subtle changes.
that said im too broke to buy any new bmw, so they shouldn’t care about what i have to think
D00dleB00ty@reddit
Just the latest example of Reddit not aligning with the real world outside our mom's basements.
TheReaperSovereign@reddit
The g80 does everything better than the f80 does and I think it will be remembered more fondly. People looking for an analog/raw experience will always go for an E series but people looking for a track/daily/reliable/tuning car...are going to find the g80 superior in every way
Shitboxfan69@reddit
Shop I was at when they first came out had a few come in. I remember getting down voted for telling people they made sense in person, especially with the right color.
Quizzie@reddit
IMO they're still not good looking. They're loved because despite being more detached than earlier generations, they're absolute monsters by the numbers. AWD and a torque converter auto add to the ease and accessibility. They're desirable for a lot of people because of what they are, now how they look.
RunninOnMT@reddit
It is no longer shockingly ugly to me, just ugly.
I dunno, I’d drive an ugly car if it were good enough to be honest.
canikony@reddit
It's definitely grown on me, but it's definitely not a beautiful car by any means.
cookingboy@reddit
Honestly they are still not good looking cars, they’ve only gotten tolerable.
Especially if you see them side to side to a F80 of the same color.
Working_Elephant5344@reddit
Does the M3 broccoli head joke only apply to influencers? Among the broccoli heads I know IRL, one drives a RAV4, one drives a Highlander, and the third drives a CR-V.
caterham09@reddit
It's currently the "influencer" it car among youth. It's by no means affordable, but it's cheap enough that a lot of kids with a $27hr job living at home can be financed to the gills on a new G80. Instagram is absolutely chock full of kids like this
blANK_NX@reddit
Proud to have always been in the right side of history. Both m3 and m4 design wise were drastic improvements from the previous models
Anf697@reddit
Big grille or not, it's still an M3. Get one before they're gone
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Or, just wait until the new one comes out in about 12-16 months. The M3 isn't getting discontinued.
LongjumpingLock5875@reddit (OP)
The manual version will be unfortunately.
Also if you like the current styling, which a lot of people do there is that aspect, also the interior is going to dramatically change to the new rhombus styling interior.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
I saw that there were rumors of that, but no confirmation. I wouldn't be surprised if they dropped it though. And yeah, as far as interior styling goes, the new generation of interiors that BMW has been rolling out look horrible to me. But I'm someone who likes a slightly more analogue style.
Avariice@reddit
Price to performance wise it’s the r35 of the 2020s but i doubt it will touch icon status.
Puppysmasher@reddit
The article says it’s coming back in 2028
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
The title of the article itself is simply saying that the current generation's final year will be 2027. It never suggests that the M3 itself will be discontinued.
Puppysmasher@reddit
It’s what the OP and first other comment were suggesting. I was merely stating what was actually said in the article.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
I don't see that at all. There was no confusion by anyone in this thread. We all understand that the title is simply saying that the current gen M3 will end in MY2027.
Puppysmasher@reddit
Ask yourself why you are so triggered by me saying it’s coming back in 2028?
And someone calling it a funeral day makes it sound like a discontinuation to me.
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
I'm not triggered at all. It's just that your original comment suggested that we didn't understand the title of the article and that we needed clarification to fully understand. But there was no confusion by anyone here. So that's why I commented.
Puppysmasher@reddit
You are literally arguing over what you thought I thought the title suggested based on your own interpreted suggestion of my comment. Let this thread die already.
UmaThurmish@reddit
aka 4 cylinder hybrid lmao
DodgerBlueRobert1@reddit
Hybrid? Very possible. But 4 cylinder? Absolutely not. The head of BMW's M division himself confirmed that they're keeping the inline 6 and V8 engines for the M cars (M3 and M5).

Yes.
As the G84 M3.
The current gen G80 M3 is dead as of early next year.
opstarfish@reddit
As a new generarion
LexKing89@reddit
I still hate the crazy grille but love everything else about it.
Virtual_Drama_5486@reddit
No it won't
This_Elk_1460@reddit
Rip pig nose M3, I never really liked the way you looked
wardellwayneraymone@reddit
RIP. Not my favorite iteration of m3 but there’s no denying the impact the g80 has
unsaltedbutter@reddit
Mine is supposed to go into production this week.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
As seeing as they've kept tuning the engines for less power/torque to not grenade the transmissions instead of modifying the MT to handle more torque, even for the CS - this is also assuredly the M4/M3s last year with an MT.
If they wanted to keep the MT, they would have beefed it up for the G80.
SnowDucks1985@reddit
This is like a funeral day for the automotive world ngl
