That 4.5 foot bed does wonders
bugme143@reddit
I have a Maverick for work with one of those bed cover things.
It's got fuck-all space when you're juggling machine parts in cardboard boxes. I told my boss I'd rather have a pedo-van.
carbon_ape@reddit
Whatās funny is my 5ā Tacoma bed is actually 4.5ā with the tonneau cover.
Iāll say it is annoying but itās like 4-5% annoying. 4.5ā is still good enough to do majority of stuff. Move a mattress, wood chips, relocate a groundhog, get interlock etc.
A 6ā bed is nice but you can still do a lot with a 4.5ā bed.
withoutapaddle@reddit
Only 6" shorter than the Hummer EV's bed.
6786_007@reddit
All about how you use it.

Theyāre fucking ENORMOUS š my tundra looks like a maverick next to one. I think all of the EV trucks except the Rivian by a margin are douchey as fuck and Iād be caught dead in something like them. An EV taco, maverick, Colorado, etc are all what people want more
aprtur@reddit
Can confirm, I have a neighbor who has one of these, as well as a Taycan and Range Rover all here in my apartment building.Ā It makes his Range Rover look tiny, and my GR Corolla look like a matchbox car.Ā Probably most absurd is that it touches the lines of the parking space on both sides...too freaking big for this apartment complex.
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
Prioritizing having a Taycan or a Hummer EV when you're renting an apartment is pretty damn telling...
aprtur@reddit
Nah, man is actually pretty cool - he has multiple properties and uses his apartment here as a more convenient location for work.Ā Traffic sucks here, and his other properties are on the shore and in Florida, so he's typically moving them around with the seasons.Ā TLDR - he's a lot more wealthy than me, has multiple properties to store them at, and is actually extremely nice...I have no beef, it's just an interesting counter to my ancient Mazda and new Corolla š.
Thomas_633_Mk2@reddit
Is the Ranger PHEV coming to the US?
benmarvin@reddit
When the discount is more than I paid for my entire truck....
Sprinklypoo@reddit
I mean, I didn't click the link, but maybe they're paying you money to take it?
I might still say no to be honest...
benmarvin@reddit
Nah, you still got a pay like $99k for the truck that weighs as much at 4 Miatas.
fordprefect294@reddit
I'd rather buy 4 different miatas!
_name_of_the_user_@reddit
Strangely enough, not everyone wants the biggest vehicle possible. There is nothing appealing about the hummer ev imo.
carbon_ape@reddit
I got a Tacoma trd pro worth more than majority of Tundras. I get it. But the hummer is a pretty impressive vehicle. If somebody offered me it, Iād take it in a heart beat. Sub 3 0-60, EV, nice interior, cool features.
Would I pay 100k for one? Nah. But still a fun kind of oxymoron kind of truck.
fordprefect294@reddit
I'd pass on a free Hummer
_name_of_the_user_@reddit
Well, I might try to sell it if someone gave it to me. But I'd rather drive my almost decade old golf than the monstrosity that is a hummer.
mbaran@reddit
Honestly, Reddit in a nutshell.
_usernamepassword_@reddit
I mean.. wildly different vehicle but I get the point
rynil2000@reddit
I would absolutely own a Maverick over the EV ~~Blowjob~~ Hummer
bearfan15@reddit
Sounds like what it should have cost to begin with.
poo_poo_platter83@reddit
Lmao. I REALLY like the outside of the hummer and the way it looks. But for the size (Which is what i was looking for) The interior space is non-existent.
This is coming from someone who REALLY wanted to buy it. But problem is im a new dad with a 2yo and a 1yo.
When i went to purchase it and test drive it. I realized that there was no space for anything useful. FWIW i ended up buying a lexus LX 570. Which dimension wise is smaller but interior wise is soo much more space.
I say all of that to say. Yes it was 100% overprice. But there are people like me that would have purchased it anyway because its a ridiculous looking electric hummer.
But the actual usefuleness of it as a vehicle just wasnt there. The interior capacity. Is along the lines of a BMW X5
Responsible-Meringue@reddit
As a dad of 2.... The Hyundai ioniq 5 is the roomiest room I'd need. Idk why everyone wants mega SUVs. I'd just get a van if I needed a 3rd row. But w/e your life, your $.Ā
stcv3@reddit
I bought ioniq 5 as a secondary car and realized it's just as sufficient even as a main vehicle with 2 kids as well. Unless you have 3+ kids and/or a dog, everything larger is pretty much unnecessary.
BD03@reddit
Is a Ioniq 5 an SUV? I think I still have the old "Ford Explorer" definition of an SUV stick in my mind.Ā
moocowsia@reddit
It's basically a fat hatch. They don't like marketing it as such. Same goes with almost all of the smaller EVs. They're a little taller because the skateboard platforms, but they're still hatch/wagons unless they actually have ground clearance, which most of them don't.
hutacars@reddit
Itās pretty huge. Driving it felt more like driving a Tucson than an Accent.
RangeRoverHSE@reddit
Not in the same way like an old body-on-frame thing like the Explorer was but it's deceptively big. It's an inch longer and wider than the new RAV4 but it does sit ~3 inches lower. I think it's officially considered a compact crossover SUV but it definitely blurs the lines more than most others already do.
xWOBBx@reddit
Mega SUV obsession always boggles my mind. Why do mostly north Americans have this made up problem of needing a big suv for kids or elderly people when for the rest of the world historically sedans have been perfectly fine?
Lezzles@reddit
My buddy the other day asked me how I still get by with only a "single family car" (???) because I drive a sedan. I have a single 3-year old child. America is beyond parody when it comes to our car culture.
MembershipNo2077@reddit
My parents had a 90's Pontiac Grand Am that we took on road trips with a three children. It was a tight fit but we did it. People needing three rows for one child is wild.
moocowsia@reddit
Car seats being huge is a big part of it, but lots of people are just pain dumb, and think they need way more than they do.
xWOBBx@reddit
Unfortunately that same mentality is in Canada too. I hear it's getting common in Europe as well. I drove across Canada in my 86. It was fucking awesome with plenty of space.
OhHelloPlease@reddit
At least we still haven't completely given up on the minivan up in Canada.
HerefortheTuna@reddit
Love my 86. But idk if it could be my only car
xWOBBx@reddit
That's fair! I don't think everyone should own cars this small. But I'm just a single fella who can easily do it. I know I'm the exception there.
PGleo86@reddit
Even as someone single who can easily do it, only having a small coupe is still pretty impractical/annoying in certain situations. I moved across town this June with the SVX as my only car and for anything bigger than one of those Sterilite 18 gallon bins (these for reference) it really needed to go in the Uhaul or in one of my friends'/family's crossovers (and even those tubs were unwieldy, only fit in the back seats, not the trunk, and getting them in through the doors around the seat pulled forward just barely worked).
Granted, that's an isolated issue, and 99% of the time it's totally workable, but WOW was that one a wake up call for the times it isn't.
HerefortheTuna@reddit
I mean it is a phenomenal car- Iāve owned both gens.
I almost did buy a brand new 86 in 2017 (woulda traded in the Saab 9-2X I had). But I opted to buy a used 2013 FR-S as a second car and keep the saabaru as a beater- now that Iām in my mid 30s and own a house and have a family and all that it wouldnāt be ideal for sure
Bassracerx@reddit
How many families does your buddy have??
OptimalFunction@reddit
It makes sense if you look at this way: a lot of douchebags started to buy large vehicles for vanity, caused horrific car crashes against sedans and folks were left impressionable. Now, American want big SUVs because they want to be the ones walking away in a car crash. They donāt care if the other family in the sedan they hit is alive. Itās utter selfishness.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
Jesus christ, we fucking tow things.
leedle1234@reddit
In europe they tow campers with regular sedans and hatchbacks. Hell I just recently towed a uhaul trailer with a motorcycle 300 miles in mine, kept it in 5th and did a comfortable ~62mph, handled it just fine based on what the oil temp said. Obviously wouldn't want to do it all the time but the average american consumer isn't towing period, let alone occasionally.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
I towed a motorcycle from delaware to pittsburgh with my subaru forester a few years back, probably 325 miles. Congrats? I live in a rural area, we tow all the time. Towing a motorcycle in a golf isn't anything to write home about. We don't all live in cities.
leedle1234@reddit
You seemingly agree with the point I made. A normal car handled some light towing fine for you too. Only a fraction of a percent of consumers (like yourself I guess) truly need big SUVs for constant regular towing and most would be fine towing with normal cars when they happen to need to.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
Sure, but i'm not the fun police telling people what they should or shouldn't drive. I dont just waste my money on fuel driving around running errands in my GX470, I use my tacoma or more commonly my M roadster for that.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
Heck yeah, wish my tow rig was a stick, theres a lot more control when you row your own gears. we go a little faster here, under 75 and i'm getting run off the road.
SEND_ME_FAKE_NEWS@reddit
You're the exception, not the rule.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
I'm your average rural american.
SEND_ME_FAKE_NEWS@reddit
In terms of population density, there are a lot more urban Americans than rural, and a lot of them own trucks.
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
If this is based off that "80% of Americans live in urban areas" statistic, it's horribly flawed.
It counts any "town" of more than a few hundred people as an urban area.
If you actually go down the list of largest urban areas and add them up, only 34% of Americans live in an urban area larger than 1 million people. Considering the first city that doesn't make that cut is Oklahoma City, I'd say it's appropriate.
equityorasset@reddit
the anti truck hate is so insane, it's like a weird jealously thing i think
PaulTheMerc@reddit
I like trucks. I've been drooling over the maverick. But if there's an agressive asshole on my ass, its a ram truck 8/10 times.
Beyond that, parking even an suv like the cr-v next to an f150 makes you realize you're probably going to die in a crash between the two.
patx35@reddit
r/cars is the place to jerk off driving a $40k-80k sports car as a groceries hauler.
HerefortheTuna@reddit
I bought my first SUV to actually go off-roading and camping and I do (has a tent on it). But driving around in a 35 year old truck with no airbags got old so I got the 2014 to daily. Do I need a 4Runner? No, but the dogs were gonna be pissed if they lost their cool tailgate window.
I also would rather buy a car that I know Iāll get 250k out versus roll the dice.
Compared to my older one the newer one is yuuuge and the newest 2025 model got even bigger.
There are no smaller than midsize 4 door SUVs for sale. And No crossovers donāt count
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
Because sometimes we tow things.
xWOBBx@reddit
If only there was a solution for this in the big 2025.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
How the fuck else do I get my stand on skid steer to work?
xWOBBx@reddit
Idk bro. But it sounds like you aren't doing these things downtown NY or LA. Or any metropolitan area.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
People in downtown NYC don't even own cars. I'm just a normal American. We have shit to tow!
xWOBBx@reddit
I know but I think the conversation is about people NOT like you. Most SUV and large pick up owners aren't doing truck things just things like putting a couple kids and groceries in it. Things a sedan or hatch does the same if not better.
The conversation is about if little Timmy and Sarah need an unarmored vehicle fit for world leaders to go to dance practice while causing pedestrian casualties at an insane rate. Not loading your skid loader or whatever the fuck.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
IDK man, people needing trucks is just a normal way of life where i live. It's the norm. Not having a truck is a pain in the ass. Why do you care what other people drive?
107percent@reddit
1 in 20 dutch households own a caravan, but plenty of them get by just fine with station wagons or sedans. Sure, if you need to tow heavy equipment regularly your life will suck in an Accord, but I refuse to believe that that's the case for 99% of American city dwellers.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
Cool, the Netherlands is a mostly flat country, get back to me when you're towing a 36ft trailer in the mountains going 70+ mph surrounded by 80k lb semis. I can tow way above my rated weight going 40mph on level ground. Why are you so invested in what we drive? I don't care what 2 liter diesel citroen or renault you drive.
PaulTheMerc@reddit
Americans(and canadians, and icreasingly some other parts of the world) are getting increasingly obese and overweight.
nsfdrag@reddit
No? Obesity rates are on the decline in the US...
PaulTheMerc@reddit
In the last couple years. I'm talking about the trend overall since ~2000 to now, what I would consider the popularity of SUVs.
nsfdrag@reddit
But āgettingā isnāt the appropriate word, thatās current tense and states it is currently on the rise when that is untrue.
PaulTheMerc@reddit
Yup, that's fair.
spacemannspliff@reddit
The only new domestic sedans in the US are Tesla or Cadillac
DistanceSolar1449@reddit
Also the 2025 Karma Revero is technically available for sale
spacemannspliff@reddit
Charger is a coupe and the Malibu doesn't exist anymore. The Lucid and Karma I'm unsure count as real mass-market vehicles but I guess. So that's a total of three nameplates with \~5 different cars, and only the Caddies are ICE. That's a pretty solidly dead segment.

It's not that people buy SUVs because there are no sedans. It's that there are no sedans because people only buy SUVs.
accountforrealppl@reddit
The only new american made sedans in the US are Tesla and Cadillac. Plenty of sedans on the market still.
I think midsize crossovers probably make a lot of sense for most families since they give extra space while not taking up a substantially larger footprint. They're also not hugely heavier, lifted, or with flat faces like the pedestrian-eating super SUVs that they're talking about
idontremembermyoldus@reddit
The Camry, Accord, Sonata, and others are all built in the U.S.
Cadillac and Tesla are the only domestic nameplates still building a sedan.
HerefortheTuna@reddit
Lucid if it counts
hydradboob@reddit
Lucid as well
BearDick@reddit
Meh I kind of get it. Giant pickups or SUVs are all over US roads and I know for a fact my wife feels way more comfortable seated higher for visibility reasons. Our answer was a Telluride, which has a fold down back row, but her favorite car to drive is the Disco 2 cause it has the best visibility of all our vehicles.
AccomplishedFudge837@reddit
People are legitimately also bigger in the USA.
Hard to fit a family of 5 overweight people into a sedan.
MembershipNo2077@reddit
I unironically do have two friends who were unable to fit into my Civic Type R. The Civic is not that small and they just couldn't get through the door.
velociraptorfarmer@reddit
I don't fit in sedans, but it's because even with the seat all the way down, my head is in the roof.
Miata, Camry, Corolla, don't fit in any of them.
Bassracerx@reddit
Well that and the lack of āfull sizeā non luxury sedans. In the 50s through the 70s getting a bigger sedan diddnt cost that much more money you did not have to get saddled with leather and a ton of luxury features. Then in the 80s cars starter to shrink to meet fuel economy and emissions regulations. Size became a premium feature. Then in the early 2000s automakers figured out that ālight trucksā were basically exempt from cafe rules and were graded differently. Now it was a race to make everything possible a ālight truckā So automakers started giving ācompactā suvs more room than midsize sedans.
Consumers quickly fell into the automakers trap. Automakers were making much more profit per vehicle on suvs and consumers were happy to pay extra money for the extra space.
HerefortheTuna@reddit
That is true. Idk how people got into cars back in the 90s- actually I do! They werenāt all loads.
Gunmetal_61@reddit
So many savings beyond just cars come from being a normal weight.
xWOBBx@reddit
That may actually be the best argument lol. I still disagree with them fundamentally and it's true that this fad was pushed on us by oil companies and car manufacturers in-order to burn more fuel and sell more expensive vehicles.
GoblinEngineer@reddit
Americans are getting chubbier and more sedentary. Things like putting a child into a car seat are harder now because they're less physically fit. People are also having children later too, so they'll be doing these things at an older age
hutacars@reddit
In Japan they throw the entire family in a kei car (if the kids arenāt just taking the train by themselves). In India they cart families of 4 around on a single motorbike. The American obsession with enormous SUVs and trucks is borderline obscene compared to what is actually required to move a family around.
frohstr@reddit
Most of the EU caps the general driving license at 7700 lbs (3.5 tons) - thatās maximum allowed weight fully loaded for that car according to type rating. A Hummer EV would require a CDL

smokinbbq@reddit
You couldn't pay me to take an EV Hummer. Such a POS waste of batteries. What's the math on it? Something like 9 hybrids could be made with those batteries, or 5 full EVs? All for a useless vehicle, which is just obscene in every aspect. Too heavy that it shouldn't be allowed on our roads without a commercial license and taxes.
Lower_Kick268@reddit
Because not everyone wants a minivan, a large SUV can tow my trailer/boat and go off road, a minivan cannot do either of those
charmanderSosa@reddit
Simple answer is proper 4x4 and towing capacity. Obviously 99% of full size SUV owners donāt care about either of those things, but for me personally thatās it.

How are you liking the 570 with 2 kids? Have a GX460 and another kid on the way. Wife drives an IS and will be upgrading her to a larger SUV. Would love to get a LX but they donāt seem significantly larger inside than the GX. Iām leaning toward a Sequoia at this point. We do lots of road trips and the GX has seemed cramped at times with just 1 kid.
SimpleOkie@reddit
The 570, you have to be careful on year. The globe valves and AHC system, is deadnuts simple and reliable, but when its failing, its the opposite of cheap. I sold my 15 that had 200K mi on it; was looking at 15K in parts alone - radiator, globe and AHC overhaul, bushings, Transfer case.
I have a GX460, and wife has one too. Interior space is about same, and actually easier for when Im loading some cargo.
I like the sequoia, but not the hybrid. Im open and looking at a LX600 specifially because of that. Still super grump that they ditched V8 engines.
LiquidSean@reddit
The Sequoia is nice, but the rear cargo setup is kind of a disaster lol
poo_poo_platter83@reddit
So the new sequoia is lx600 size. We personally do are packing the kids and dog up to hit the beach every weekend in the summer and load up for camping and mountains during the winter.
I will say it can still get a little tight. But we live in Philadelphia so we didn't want to go as big as a Escalade. Also the way the third row seats fold it takes away rear space. With that said it is miles more room in the rear than the gx.
Now my wife drives a 2024 gmc acadia denali. Which has more room and feels roomier than the lx570. (Buick enclave, Chevy Traverse and the Cadillac vistiq are the same car). If you don't want the V8 and extra off-road capabilities of the lx. Those are the biggest suvs you can get before you go to the real big boys like the Escalade and sequoia
the_lamou@reddit
I know people always say they need giant cars when they have kids, but really, why? Kids aren't that big, and mine doesn't his time as a baby riding around in the back of a 1st Gen Hyundai Tiburon with plenty of room to spare.
LiquidSean@reddit
Kids arenāt that big, but strollers, diaper bags, etc take up a lot of cargo space. I think most small families would be fine with a small SUV, but I do understand the appeal of wanting more room
the_lamou@reddit
Not really, no. A collapsible stroller will maybe take two cubic feet, three at the high end. A diaper bag might do another two cubic feet, if it's on the larger size.
Or put it another way, I can fit everything I need to go cold-weather glamping for a week with two people into the trunk of a Toyota Camry and still have room left over. And that's including food in coolers. A family of three or four shouldn't need more stuff to go to the grocery store.
cbf1232@reddit
Unless you pick carefully, modern rear-facing baby seats can take up a lot of space, both front-to-back and side-to-side. Then people add in massive two-kid jogging strollers and still want to be able to do a Costco run, or take a few friends to the beach with floaty toys and lawn chairs and stuff.
On the other hand, I raised two kids with a Toyota Matrix--we shopped carefully for seats and strollers that were compact. But we did do camping trips with gear packed under and beside the rear-facing car seats...
cat_prophecy@reddit
I drive a Volvo S60. It's not super-roomy when you have two adults and two kids, but it gets the job done.
The only reason we bought a van (Sienna) was because we often carry extra adults, and the Sienna gets really good fuel economy.
tgkid88@reddit
You did the right thing anyway. Stick with Toyota
CodyBlues2@reddit
The H3 had the same issue interior wise.
SavageryRox@reddit
Why the hell do you need a full-size 3 row suv? Absolutely no need for LX for 2 adults & 2 children. Saying the hummer didn't have enough interior space for that is just ridiculously stupid.
I've fit 5 adults in my CX-5 for multiple road trips with no issue. My neighbours have twins in car seats & a toddler in a booster seat, & have no issue in their RAV4.
Mjolnir12@reddit
Maybe they have a lot of cargo they have to carry?
trail-g62Bim@reddit
No that can't be it. It must be because he is fat and stupid.
hutacars@reddit
Obviously āneedingā such a huge vehicle for two tiny humans is ridiculous, but he does have a point. Interior volume relative to exterior size is atrocious.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
Perhaps he plans on driving it for the next 20 years and passing it down to one of the kids when they need a car after college? It's probably one of the most reliable vehicles made in the last decade after all. Hell, it'll probably go 400k if the salt doesn't get it.
cadmiumredlight@reddit
That's obviously not the case if he was initially looking at a GM EV.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
It doesn't matter, dude bought what he wanted.
SavageryRox@reddit
The Lexus NX / RX are equally as reliable.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
Who cares? Dude wanted a Land cruiser, dude bought a Land cruiser. I'm going to sell my GX and Tacoma in the next couple years and get an early LX570 and an early 2nd gen Tundra 5.7. You know why? Because I want them. I tow boats, large jet skis, a small skid steer, and i do it in the hills. I also work a demanding job where i'm on call 5 months out of the year when the weather is crazy, responding to anything from tornado damage to large snow falls. My wife drives a 2010 rav4 v6 limited with 220k on it, she's a doctor, you know what she wants when that dies? Another rav4. She can afford anything she wants. Different strokes for different folks.
V48runner@reddit
You'd be streets ahead with a Sienna.
TheAnon13@reddit
Oh god you shouldnāt have said you wanted a hummer or large SUV. Youāre gonna get a bunch of angry Redditors asking why you donāt just buy a toyota corolla instead.

someone commment and was like as a dad the Ioniq is all the space i'd ever need. Ok if you like to be cramped and uncomfortable that's your prerogative

ā¦the Ioniq 5 is huge inside. Unless you are the width of two humans, youāre not going to be uncomfortable, jfc.
TheophrastBombast@reddit

equityorasset@reddit

Ran4@reddit
If you have a young child why the fuck didn't you just buy a full size wagon?
poo_poo_platter83@reddit
We're riding on beaches and through muddy mountain roads during the weekends. "Camping, Beach, Mountain Cabins ETC" The offroad capabilities are key. This is why something like an escalade or minivan doesnt work. The LX570 is a VERY capable offroader allowing me to raise and lower it and has been GREAT at even towing toys on the beach
SavageryRox@reddit
Things that any CUV with good tires can handle without breaking a sweat.
They would handle the mud & sand with no issue. Escalade & minivans come in AWD. Just get decent tires.
Any AWD CUV will handle the mud & sand you are going through, & have enough ground clearance. You aren't rock climbing. You are soft-roading. All you need is AWD & tires.
You don't need a full size BOF SUV to tow. "Toys" will not max out the 7,000 pound towing limit. A pilot tows 5,000 pounds & that is more than enough for toys. 5,000 pounds is 10-12 ATVs for fucks sake.
A CUV will handle this. A mid-size crossover will handle this.
None of the things you listed justify you "needing" this SUV. They all justify you wanting this SUV but it's much more than what you need. There's nothing wrong with that if you can afford it, but stop trying to make it seem like a full-size BOF SUV was your only option. There were many other reasonable options that would have worked.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
You're seriously comparing one of the GOAT Suvs to an awd CUV?
I've got an old tacoma that'll tow 5k on paper, but i wouldn't put more than 3500# on it. Same with my GX470, she'll tow 6500#, but the max I'd ever put back there is probably 5K. You've got to stop the thing, and i doubt there are any CUV's out there with built in brake controllers. What about running through hill country in the appalachian range, is your transmission up to that task? Just because "you can" doesn't mean you should. Towing serious weight is serious shit, and it is stressful if you're not in the right vehicle.
SavageryRox@reddit
They said they are towing toys. Toys don't even get close to 5,000 pounds. Dirt bikes are 200-300 pounds. ATVs are 400-500 pounds. Jet ski is 600-900 pounds. Hell, even a pontoon boat is like 4,000 pounds.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
What do you know about tongue weight and payload capacity?
SavageryRox@reddit
you aren't maxing either of them on something like a pilot compared to a GX, not when you're towing an ATV or motorcycle or jet ski.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
When your half ton quad cab truck has a max payload of 1500lbs and your trailer has a tongue weight of 300lbs, you have 1200lbs of people/gear that you can tow. I can tell that you're out of your realm of knowledge here, so I'm really not trying to be a dick, but a honda pilot is not the answer you think it is here. Payload is a much larger factor in the real world than max towing capacity. I tow 3500# of skis regularly, and it's a full blown workout in the hills with the GX. I wouldn't imagine doing it with my tacoma. Not a chance. I've got a CDL A license and regularly tow serious weight.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
How much does a trailer weigh?
SavageryRox@reddit
An ATV / bike trailer for toys is like 750 pounds.
Titan0917@reddit
Your post just reeks of smug ignorance. You make a whole lot of claims about things youāre clearly wrong about.
thatguyfromnickelbac@reddit
Right? They know nothing about towing and make a whole lot of assumptions about a person's wants. A guy who buys an LX570 is NOT cross shopping a fucking mid size crossover. It's more likely he has a 997.1 in the 3rd bay of his garage, he's not buying a damn Rav4. This guy worked hard and made it, he does his research and buys for the long term.

It's shockingly loud too. I thought it would be a slam dunk purchase for me but somehow it's noiser inside than my ICE GLS.
_Floriduh_@reddit
Fellow 2 under 2 dad here. X5 is perfect Goldilocks size for me.
Bderken@reddit
Yeah I really want one too. But it is really big and bulky. Like a hummer should be tbh
bummerbimmer@reddit
Itās still $100k with the rebate?!?!?!Āæ
imuniqueaf@reddit
Take another $50k off and we'll talk.
besselfunctions@reddit
Might be worth the batteries at that point.
Spicywolff@reddit
Still not worth it imo.
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
Maybe if its $42k with a $41k rebate...
scstraus@reddit
I'm being perfectly honest when I say you couldn't pay me to be seen in one of those.
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
My car is old and busted... it wouldn't shame me at all.
scstraus@reddit
If you can't afford to keep up your current car, there's no way that this would be better for you.
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
Oh, no, its mechanically completely fine and I do all the maintenance myself... it's just old, has 340k miles, a big dent on one side, and the paint is wrecked all the way around.
_name_of_the_user_@reddit
Exactly. If it was a $1000 I'd look up if it can do vehicle to grid charging. If it can I'd build a parking spot for it behind my garage - so my neighbours wouldn't be forced to see it - and turn it into a home battery on blocks. Aside from the giant battery this glorified farm equipment has zero appeal to me.
Spicywolff@reddit
At that price I could genuinely be interested. It would at least be on the truck EV roster for to research, sit in, test drive and the proper consideration given.
blueingreen85@reddit
That thing weighs so much itās probably worth that for scrap value.
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
Same here... I'd consider it lol
Spicywolff@reddit
Like realistically if Iām gonna buy an electric pick up truck Ford lightning is looking pretty OK in my eyes. It doesnāt try to be a driving stunt. Itās just a truck that happens to be electric.
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
I wouldn't fool with any electric truck... I'd be into a cheap EV if the price was right though.
Spicywolff@reddit
Right EV pickup isnāt my first choice either. But if I had to objectively research and buy one. Iām liking the fiat 500EV, great commuter car that can be an efficient and cheap appliance Point A to B car.
Or give me a EV Miata. 125 miles with AC real range, lighter weight 2 door.
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
Unfortunately I do ~100 miles on my daily commute so I'd like closer to 200 miles to feel comfortable. The Aptera looks alright (if they get it into full production).
Spicywolff@reddit
Dang 100 a day, Iām at 20 a day in the city. So a small capacity EV would fit my needs
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
The new leaf looks good...
Spicywolff@reddit
Iām still on the fence Nissan wise. I donāt want to get into a car maker that may be gone in the next few years. The new Prius looks good but is hybrid.
Chevy is dropping a new bolt, which has my attention. 28k starting 255 miles range
2Drogdar2Furious@reddit
I've looked at the Prius Prime... they're not that slow anymore and I actually like the styling. They get about 40 miles of EV range.
I'm more likely to get one of those than an EV really...
Spicywolff@reddit
Iām so happy they finally scraped the ugly and tree higher look off. Now itās quite stylish and easy on the eyes.
A PHEV is a good option for many. Especially short range use like me.
Nervous-Tour-884@reddit
42k off a grossly overprice specialty trim. Reminds me a bit of Subaru and Nissan where they would come out with 18 million special trims of the WRX, STI, and GT-R that would add 5 horsepower and some visual touches, then jack the price up a laughable amount. Dodge too for that matter, how many Hellcat Demon 170 final edition widebody blah blah models has there been already? Can't begrudge em too much really, the shit works.
DiscoLives4ever@reddit
The Omega was GM trying to get a piece of the inflated vehicle prices a few years ago. The first edition Hummers were going for 50-100% over MSRP, but GM had already sold a bunch of reservations at that price so they introduced the Omega as a way to grab some of that market because demand appeared to indicate they were missing out on a huge chunk of change.
These rebates are just bringing them back down to what they would have cost to configure anyway, plus a special paint job
SnootDoctor@reddit
These Hummer EVās are genuinely evil, given the way the weight of them (12,000lbs+) will tear up the roads. I know a Hummer never was an environmentally friendly vehicle to begin with, but come on. It does a little crab walk for a Super Bowl commercial, and everyone lost their minds.
Every time I see a person driving one, I instantly think less of them and their decision making.
Sixteen-Cylinders@reddit (OP)
Yes they weigh a lot but no clue where you got 12,000lbs. The heaviest variant is 9,600lbs.
peakdecline@reddit
When these first launched the prices were incredible. The first one my local GM dealer got was priced at $325K.
ahorrribledrummer@reddit
I think I've seen maybe 4-5 in the wild this year. Nobody wants them. People looking to spend this money on an EV seemingly don't want a macho rig. If they want a $100k+ EV they're going for a Porsche/Benz/Bimmer. If they want a $100k+ macho truck they go for an Escalade.
peakdecline@reddit
The last one I saw was a couple months ago. It was on some truly ridiculous wheels and rubber band tires and was in the maximum lift height for the air suspension. It was really a sight to behold.
niftyjack@reddit
I see them around Chicago sometimes, they're too wide to fit in our parallel parking lanes and take up space in the bike lane. Awful.
SnootDoctor@reddit
Yep. Seeing a Hummer EV in the wild is right there next to āvitriolā in the dictionary.
stml@reddit
Itās straight up too big. The Escalade is already large and a pushing it in size. The Hummer is even wider than the F250.
peakdecline@reddit
The Hummer EV, SUV or truck, is the same width as an F-150 Raptor. And both versions are substantially shorter (232.6" vs 216.8" Hummer truck). The Ram TRX/RHO is actually a bit wider even and a bit longer than the Raptor.
Very large? Oh yeah. But nothing surprising within the space its competing.
stml@reddit
I don't think it's competing with the Raptor though.
It's competing for the big EV cruiser market which is Rivian, Model X, luxury SUVs, etc AKA, the influencer crowd in Los Angeles.
peakdecline@reddit
I really don't think these are distinctly different markets. Just as a ton of Raptors are sold to look cool on pavement.
SeaManaenamah@reddit
I see conflicting information about their widths. Mind sharing your source?

It really depends on where you live. I see at least 1 a day, sometimes upwards of 5.
Disclaimer: I do not live in Michigan or work for GM.
OldManandtheInternet@reddit
Columbus Ohio has enough to run across one daily.Ā
idontremembermyoldus@reddit
I'm in the Raleigh area and see the SUVs quite often. The pickups are non-existent, though.
Prudent-Dance5042@reddit
I see 5+ of these out here every single day and our metro only has a population of about 400k people. I also know someone who paid $30k over to be the "first" in our city to have one and bragged about it constantly for the first 6 months or so.
YourMatt@reddit
They seem to be very popular here in Phoenix. I see multiple per day, and at about as often as Rivians. I tend to notice both because I love them both.
NetLumpy1818@reddit
I see them popping up around me in suburban Toronto
TheophrastBombast@reddit
Weird, I've saw like 5 of them on a short 10 mile round trip to a couple stores the other day. It was kind of odd seeing so many.
Snoo93079@reddit
100k EVs you're also looking at Lucid and top end Rivian
zeph_yr@reddit
Yep, competing with the Rivian if you want a normal looking truck, or Cybertruck if you want something extravagant
strongmanass@reddit
I once saw a Cybertruck behind a Hummer EV at a stoplight in a random suburban town. Felt like I had entered the douchebag zone.Ā
4r4r4real@reddit

FledglingNonCon@reddit
Or a cybertruck. If you want to buy a $100k middle finger to everyone else on the road there's nothing that does that better than a cybertruck.

Rivian as well.
Topikk@reddit

executingsalesdaily@reddit
I was speaking on people buying a Rivian instead of a hummer. Rivian is super common where Iām at too.
FalloutRip@reddit
Iāve only seen one and it was being driven by who I assume were dealership managers based on their matching polos for a nearby dealership.
Even on the obnoxiously wealthy side of my city I havenāt seen a single one.
killshelter@reddit
Theyāve been selling for way under MSRP around me all year. You could even get a used one with like 5k miles in the $60kās
StatusCount7032@reddit
Did it sell for that much? If so, sold to a crypto bro who took the bath?
peakdecline@reddit
No clue. I saw it parked on the dealer's lot and checked their website and saw they had it listed at $325K. It was gone within a week.

daandriod@reddit
I want to want one, But they're so ugly.
They just all look so fat on the exterior
WildwestPstyle@reddit
They look like a fat Hyundai Santa Fe. I donāt know what they were thinking.
daandriod@reddit
Just. Make. A. Truck
Take a regular 1500 body and just drop it on the frame for the EV version. That's all they have to do and it won't be hideous. Instead they want to do all this extra shit that likely adds another 15-20 percent to the manufacturing cost, At the expense of the truck just looking ugly.
Design wise, It really does look like the child who inherited all the bad quality's from a union of the Chevy Avalanche and the Santa Cruz. And its just the exterior. Interior design is sharp and rather lovely.
stav_and_nick@reddit
I unironically love it in that matte blue paint they do, but in every other colour it looks like shit

dayvieee@reddit
3x omega editions from 140k to 99k. First time seeing the trim names for the hummer ev, why 3x omega?
hi_im_bored13@reddit
3x because it's tri motor and omega for the fully loaded trim with what is practically a 20k matte paint jobĀ
Sixteen-Cylinders@reddit (OP)
Which is insane because the exact same paint is offered on the Escalade IQ for $6k.
narwhal_breeder@reddit
It wouldnāt surprise me if that price scaled linearly with how much metal there is to cover and god damn does the hummer have a lot of metal
Parrelium@reddit
It's priced that way based on the type of idiot that would pay for it.
They should have offered an option with topless devil women rising from a sick flame-job for 40k. Somebody would have paid for that.
woodsides@reddit
Military vehicle military pricing.
Sun_Aria@reddit
Matte paint is the cherry on top of a look-at-my-9000lb-tank vehicle

Weren't they advertising leases for 850 last year? Not for the fully loaded trims but for what is still I think 90k+ MSRP that is quite a deal. I assumed then that they were having trouble moving them.
baronvondoofie@reddit
Call me when itās just $40,000.
Damned if I donāt like the way they look, but any SUV for $140k or even $90k is just bonkers IMHO. I guess thatās why Iāve seen a total of two in the wild so far. Iāve seen more Jeep Wagoneers, and those make even less sense at $100k.

TheWeinerThief@reddit
Uglier than the cyber truck imo. Would take the rivian over both, and I don't find the pickup rivian attractive. (The suv looks good though)
JustinMcSlappy@reddit
Considering I had to jump start a friend's new Hummer EV, with my diesel truck, I'll pass. The small 12v battery in the front of the truck was at 8v because of some crazy parasitic drain and it didn't have enough power to kick on the big batteries to actually drive.
They tried jumping it with a small truck and small cables but the drain was higher than what amperage they could get into the battery. We finally got enough juice into it with some big cables and the larger alternator on my truck. He was able to finally put it in drive mode and get it to the dealership fifteen minutes away.
