It's likely going to be replaced by an electric version. However, it isn't ready yet and Porsche had to stop selling the current version because they couldn't make it comply with new European cyber security regulations.
I wanted one so bad, by the time I made the money to afford one, it's base price had gotten so high I couldn't convince myself to buy one so I bought an STi instead.
This and Mercedes CLS are two cars where when I see them in the wild I think to myself “damn forgot these exist, but why don’t more people buy them..?”
BMW is also killing it off. Which is a shame because I absolutely love mine - looks great, turns heads because it isn’t super common, drives well, and still fits two car seats in the back for my 4- & 2-year old kids.
I saw a first generation A7 model in Silver just weeks ago driving about with the sunset in the background and she still looks stunning even to this very day. Really has that nice "executive jet for the road" vibes going on.
Hopefully the new a7 family is every bit as gorgeous atleast on the outside. Unlike BMW, Audi hasn't been butchering exterior designs so there is hope.
Personal opinions differ I guess, but no I really think that’s a bit over the top. It’s fine. I agree that it’s not great but it’s not outlandishly bad like you describe IMO. Nothing about it is exceptional looking one way or the other. It’s just bleh.

I’ve said this elsewhere, but I really don’t think the general public hates BMW exteriors as much as enthusiasts do. I got more compliments on our i4 with the buck tooth grille than I did with any other car I’ve owned. I’ll admit that it never totally grew on me but people complimented it all the time.
I am really tired of these posts about a model being killed of just to find out that its just the us market. Also this is old news and had already been posted here.
Audi sold 1,574 units of the A7 + S7 + RS7 in the US.
BMW sold 10,714 units of the 7 series in the US.
Despite what this subreddit thinks, BMW is crushing Audi. I don't think the 7 series necessarily looks good, but it seems people are ok with the styling for just how much better of a car it is.
atony1400@reddit
Adding it to the dead cars for 2026 list.
Cars done for 2026:
phasttZ@reddit
The is500? After what 3 years
7148675309@reddit
Well the A4 - they’ve essentially merged with the A5
Desutor@reddit
And the a7 with the upcoming A6 Sportback. So? The A7 name is still dead
ducky21@reddit
idk why you're eating downvotes, there's literally no difference between the A4 and the A7 situation
thatcodingboi@reddit
It's there a replacement for the 718 or are they just massively shifting up the bottom tier?
tonyis@reddit

Tf kinda cybersecurity risk is my csr at.
Just wanna turn it on and drive off.
e92s65king@reddit
I tried to write an explanation for you about Northvolts bankruptcy and the 718 but it got flagged by the moderator for being “political”.
I suppose all I can say is to google northvolt, CATL, and VW AG.
No wonder this sub is mostly just AI slop now.

Looks like an electric successor according to CarBuzz. I can't link the article because it gets removed.

A list of cars that will come back as SUVs
solo118@reddit
Porsche 718 probably the most upsetting tbh
NotRote@reddit
I wanted one so bad, by the time I made the money to afford one, it's base price had gotten so high I couldn't convince myself to buy one so I bought an STi instead.

Add IS500 to that list
atony1400@reddit
Noooooo I actually liked that one.

Toyota bZ4X is getting a mid-cycle refresh and renaming to just bZ. I wouldn’t call it dead.

Makeitquick666@reddit
Good, the newer A/S7s are devolving from the older cars design wise
ab_90@reddit
A shame because it’s a beautiful car with nice proportion
Op3rat0rr@reddit
Glad Audi didn't go the BMW route. I still think some head of BMW design got there by nepotism over talent
kinda_guilty@reddit
And yet BMW is outselling Audi handily. You have an incomplete view of these capitalism machines' raisons d'etre.
Juicyjackson@reddit
Absolutely gorgeous, but the sales numbers were abysmal.
1574 units in 2024 total for the A7, S7, and RS7 combined.
That makes it one of the worst selling cars of the year.
The 7 series BMW sold 10k units despite the controversial styling.
Scary_One_2452@reddit
How about the 8 series gran coupe, which would be direct competition
1_800_UNICORN@reddit

mbmbmb01@reddit
The BMW 8 Series could compete with the RS7, but is in a higher, more expensive class than the S7 and definately the A7.
komrobert@reddit
Around 6K
ZanicL3@reddit
Why weren't they more competitive compared to the BMW? Price?
TheChickenScampi@reddit

Get the new Honda accord then lol
r0bman99@reddit
Sweet! We definitely more shitty hybrid CVT "sporty" crossovers!
DeCzar@reddit
A7 is my favorite exterior design in any sedan. Hope it comes back in some form
Windows-XP-Home-NEW@reddit
so fastback/liftback?
DeCzar@reddit
Haha yup, love the newer accords too
Windows-XP-Home-NEW@reddit
10th gen is a sweet ride. 11th gen I personally dislike a lot. Even if it still retains the fastback shape.
I drive a pretty funky liftback. It looks like a normal sedan till you open the hatch.
solo118@reddit
1st gen was amazing, kinda went downhill from there kinda like the CLS
Carter0108@reddit
*in the US.
lBlackfeatherl@reddit

greg-maddux@reddit
The new a5/s5 is HORRIBLE. Saw one in person and it’s far worse than it looked in pictures. Like a ford escort from 15 years ago.
RogerTheAlienSmith@reddit
I wouldn’t say horrible, I feel like that’s dramatic. It’s fine. Not as nice looking as the previous gen in my opinion.
greg-maddux@reddit
I’m usually not over the top with car critiques. My jaw hit the floor when I saw the bloated ass shape of the new a5 in person. It’s really bad.
RogerTheAlienSmith@reddit

andrea55TP@reddit
Maybe not butchering, but the current a5 and a6 are definitely not as clean and good looking as the outgoing ones
AaminMarritza@reddit
And the interior is atrocious.
Audi had the best of the German lux interiors and now its screens and piano black like eveyone else :(
ArdillasVoladoras@reddit
The new q5 isn't exactly pretty
itsamemarioscousin@reddit
Or the new Q3.
Houston103@reddit
Or the A6 E-Tron.
buick22@reddit
Agreed. Previous model was a lot more attractive
Juicyjackson@reddit
Despite the styling.
The 7 series absolutelt crushed the A7 series in sales numbers, almost 10 7 series sales for every 1 A7 series sale in 2024.
Unoriginal-@reddit
Unlike Audi, BMW has the capital to update their models more often with the drivetrain and technology customers demand.
Also there are rumors to bring back the 6 series.
PrincipleFragrants@reddit
Huh, isnt VAG one of the largest automakers in the world?
brownninja97@reddit
Yeah but their brands aren't doing so well. Big bets on ev, messing up software, silly pricing doesn't done then well.
FlourCity@reddit
Audi has the capital via VW. They just choose not to for some reason.
Exact_Mastodon_7803@reddit
That “some reason” is a 4 billion Euros restructuring, bud. With operating income halved between 2024-25.
FENICH@reddit
Ummm..they have

They’re normies who complement it because of the BMW badge. It’s still an ugly fuckin car.
